Since there are different bow types with zodiac skin (longbow, recurvebow, other?), it seems strange for me that people are buying/selling them at same prices.

They are NOT the same.

I bought a zodiac +5 energy bow because ppl told me it's a recurve bow. I've tested it and it was a longbow. A friend told me he got a flatbow.

Don't know how many people knew this already. Would be funny to know that ppl buy bows only because of the skin. Is that true?

I will never buy again a zodiac bow if there is no note which bow type it is. I'm glad that I got a longbow because recurve bows are the cheaper ones.

Note to arena net: Change the names to "zodiac longbow" ...

It's true.

And to your point, yes, please could we get indentfiers on the zodiac bows so we know what type it is.

I thought they were all the same type of bow. Thanks for shining a light on that.

Actually each and every one I've gotten has tested out to be longbow class. I think unless a bow type is specified, bows of the same name will act the same. No reason to differentiate the Bramble, Plagueborn, and other bows just to leave Zodiacs ambiguous.

They're long bows. Your friend has no clue if he thinks his is a flat bow.

All Zodiac Bows are Longbow class... I have had 3 so far and all have been longbow. Unless there is proof otherwise common knowledge shall remain.

Nothing new there.

Storm Bows are longbows, always, Eternal Bows are Recurve bows, always, Shadow Bows are Hornbows, always.

Zodiak's are longbows, always.

And yes, people pay lots of money for the skin, same thing as used to happen with Storm/Eternal bows, they're no better then plain bows but the skin makes people suddenly shell out 100K + ecto's....stupidity rules sometimes

I wouldnt call it stupidity...its economics and visual preference.

If I need a car to get to work, I could buy a Honda, or I could buy a Ferrari. Both cars would get me to work in the same amount of time (yay speed limits!), but the Ferrari costs a helluva lot more than the Honda. If I buy the Ferrari, I pay a crapload of more money because it looks so much better than the Honda, even though they both accomplish the same thing.

Dont be so quick to judge people who pay large sums for an item that you wouldnt necessarily spend your gold on.

HMm, there are hidden bonuses attached to all of it.
A ferrari will always make you more popular with the girls just like a fow set may make you more popular with the puglets.

But for some reason people don't get it and they think that flashing their greens will have the same effect as swinging the keys to their jaguar.

Greens are the hondas of GW
Golds still are the king when it comes to being flashy

And I like my Drago's skin cause well that thing towers over my ranger making it amusing to watch her let the arrows fly hehe. My Drago's was a gift from a friend.

I would say the ONLY thing I have spent obscene amounts of money on is armor, and the Bulwark and that was cause of the stats and not the skin (I've had shadow shields out the yinyang -_- ). I waited till the Bulwark was under 100k first tho.

But yes I am also highly amused at what people will spend to "Look" good, because some of it just doesn't look all that great. But I guess its all in the eye of the beer ... err.. beholder. >_>

Well since the stats on so many high end things are so close or the same (like 1.5k armor vs. 15k armor), that's what you spend your money on: eye candy.

IIRC Flatbows and Longbows have the same range; it's the reload time and flight time that differ.

Yeah but I am the type of gal that even tho I like the uber sezzy dress I will get the semi sezzy for cheaper (meaning I will NOT get anything needing Deld Steel or overly price materials). I guess weapons don't mean as much to me as they do some people - I just refuse to spend 200k-1mill on anything weapon related. I will go get collectors and mod it the same as something I want and not have to pay 50k for it. Like I said its all in the eye of the beholder. My husband has those bows and even tho I think they look uber cool, I am watching him get them with the best max dmg mods at the drop of a hat.

Armor Prices will never change, but weapons... One week they are hot, the next week they're not and I don't see spending a TON of money to look uber leet, if I have to spend another 300k next week just to keep up with the trend. That's my take anyways.

See here is where I think things go wrong (not calling you wrong, just things wrong in general).
I have a collectors longbow that shoots to the edge of my agro circle, my dragos flatbow shoots well beyond my agro bubble... WELLL BEYOND lol. I have/had a Feathered Longbow that shot almost as far as my Dragos and my Stormbow shot a little short or a little longer than my Feathered Longbow (it changed occassionally, I figured it was just my target moving away XD)
Here is what I see besides reload time that is different.
On hills pointing up I get the same range on my Drago's as I would NORMALLY (on flat surface) get with my longbow.
My longbow then shoots like a shortbow on that same hill.

And downhill I can shoot for MILES with my Dragos (almost a half an agro bubble extra). However my longbow only shoots a little over my agro bubble circle.

So no I don't think they are the same. I have tested it more times than I can count. And that collectors longbow really shouldn't be considered a longbow or the feathered longbow shouldn't be a longbow (of course I think in Cantha they "are" actually flatbows? I thought I saw this but wasn't sure if it was a full switch or just that they added feathered flatbows?).

But no my Drago's flatbow has the range of the gawds and I have found no other bow that shoots anywhere near its range.
Call me crazy, but thats how I've tested it. (Yes even the little rings on that island XD)

Oh, I'm with you there. There are only a few top-end things I'm willing to blow a ton of platinum on. Most of the time, the near perfect equipment I use is good enough, and doesn't look terrible, and I'm still saving for the pieces of 15k armor I want.

There's literally nothing in this game other than those 15k pieces I'll spend more than a few thousand on. Maybe when I'm disgustingly rich my tone will change.

Talk about a lame analogy.

The Ferrari is at least potentially faster, much faster, then the Honda, the Ferrari will lose bits when you go over a speedbump, you can take the Ferrari to a racetrack and go as fast as you like.

A longbow with a different skin does not perform differently in any way, shape or form. What you are talking about is paying for a Ferrari but getting a Honda with a Ferrari logo on it.

As for judging, maybe you missed the big grin smiley after it? I LOVE that people pay such amounts for it because I'll gladly sell it to them

Doesnt mean I cannot find it insane to pay for skins and not stats

And some "longbows" pull me out of the little stationary circle to shoot a stationary barrel because?

I understand accuracy and fire rate. I posted my tested findings also in this thread. I do NOT believe they have the same range all the time or even most of the time. And unless something changed in the past two days sinse I have played my ranger then I still see the labels as incorrect on most bows.

I have tested my longbows many times (against my flatbows among other tests). The only "longbow" that I have had not test the same for range (on flat ground, from above, from below) is the blankets longbow (Blankets for the Settlers quest reward, -2 damage in stance). This tests at recurve range. I checked it again tonight, and I could not get a significant difference (over multiple trials - single trials can yield a tiny difference if conducted in certain ways). If you have a longbow that tests differently, I'd like to see this please (IGN: Ugnh Waknes), as I'd be curious what other bows are bugged (especially since I'd like to write that up for proper documentation).
