Boreas seabed slap in the face to soloists

Just need to vent. The boreas seabed mission requires interruption...fine. As a reasonably competent assassin I can do my fair share of that. Only this mission has an object that gets dropped if I try to shadowstep...fine I understand the pvp implications of allowing objects to shadowstep. So I'm willing to carry the object and not shadowstep and rely on henchies for some backup. Only guess what...anet decided this mission shouldn't have a mesmer hench. And since I've tried it now about 14 times with different builds and the existing hench only to get the kraken to about 20% then die I am a bit perturbed. Yeah ok sure I can try to find a decent pug (the few guilds I've been in were utterly worthless) and just get this done but I have prided myself on henching every other mission (the temple took me 4 tries but I managed it by adjusting skills/tactics) so far and I'd just like to continue. Taking out the mesmer hench seems to me to be Anet sort of thumbing their nose at my playstyle. Yes I like to hench...should I be punished for that or have that made impossible for a key mission.? Just put the mesmer back and let me tough it out. It's not like that would make this mission a cakewalk just perhaps doable by a soloist with henchies. Oh yeah and since this is the only rant post I'm going to allow myself...Open the damn gates! What do I care if people want to do/get runs. I never have and never will but I loved exploring tyria and fighting my way to a yet unknown portal. Do that here and just get shut out and told you have to finish a mission that will be skewed however Anet chooses. ok rant done. I still love the game or I wouldn't be playing it still and trying out new builds etc. All I ask is to be able to play how I want not how Anet wants me to.

Actually I soloed this mission with an Assassin. I found the trick was to bring disrupting stab to interrupt the bloody Kraken. It's challenging, but it can definitely be done.

Thanks. Encouraging to know that if I keep at it perhaps there will be some success. Curious, did you use the spear or just leave it. Hench seem to attack other kraken spawn randomly even if I call target so it still seems like luck to get enough focus/damage to kill the boss. Still resent the missing mesmer hench

leave the spear, just focus on interrupt the kraken attacks and you will be fine... specially interrumpt his only attack... its devastating for the henchs :S

You dont need the spear, it will just make killing him quicker... regardless, if you do take the spear, charge it to lvl 5, use it once on the boss then int with Disrupting Stab.

Precisely what I did with my ranger, used the spear once, then just kept distracting it.

Exactly the same for me. also, you may want to bring both Assassin henches because they can interrupt, too (I usually avoid them like the plague, since they tend to overaggro due to random shadow stepping into nearby enemy groups, but here they are actually usefull).

>.> you don't need to carry the spear at all, the spear is not require to complete the mission, it's only a help.

My Asn completed the mission w/ henchmen + expert award, not using the spear at all.

My Warrior and Assassin henched it and both got Master's. Yet somehow I simply could not with my Ranger, a master of interrupts...

But just to reiterate:
Take both Assassins- they use Beguiling Haze which interrupts and causes Daze. Also good with the bleeding and poison(Panaku).
Immediate kill ressurected Kraken Spawns.
I'd also suggest saving your interrupts for Jade Fury only.
Finally, its normal attacks also cause quite a bit of damage. I haven't tested it yet, but you could try blinding it with Blinding Powder.

Keep at it and good luck.

As a ranger, I brough savage and distracting. Savage for the res, he didn't get a single one up and res's recharge is long enough as it is and distracting for the jade fury.

I managed this without landing a single physical strike as an assassin with the hench on the kraken. I did bring the spear, let it charge as I took out the spawns, then when the boss showed up, with the spear at lvl 5, i dropped it when he started jade fury. Then i picked it back up, and let him cast ressurect on a spawn. As soon as the spawn was up I ctrl-alt-space for the spawn, it was down in about 2 seconds, the spear charging with every time I kill the spawn.
I ended up putting the boss in a cycle and just rinsed and repeated. After that first time, I used skills to interrupt the jade fury and immediately dropped the spear afterwards, since sometimes the delay between when you drop the spear and when it causes damage and interrupts would last longer than the spell it was supposed to stop.
I used mesmer as my secondary and interrupted his jade fury with either power spike or cry of frustration, whichever was recharged at that point. Obviously it can be done without the spear, but the 1,900 dmg the fully charged spear does sure helped take him down quickly. Kinda funny to watch as all I did was stand there with the spear the whole fight.

Slightly on topic: I've heard (haven't tried yet) that Eternal Grove is the true slap to the soloist.

Yes, the eternal grove mish and the Gayla Hatchery mish both need pugs
to get thru, of course there are ppl who have done it and probably got
masters, but I would call that a little lucky. The only unforunate part is
that Assassins are not liked very well in Factions, and have a hard time
getting in pugs. I know I have completed the game on both sides with mine
already.

Certainly a bit frustrating but once you get the juggernauts up you can position them to help slow down other attacks, since they do res very fast.

Gyala is also possible with very careful smoke canister placement. In both missions you need to utilize your three 'assault creatures' to maximum effect, it makes the mission a good deal easier.

I henched Gyala backwards* and got expert. Were it not for bad luck in having all my seige turtles firing at exactly the same time, I wouldn't have lost that one baby turtle. Ah well.

*You can do an end-around to the west at the very beginning and cause the caravan to stay put. Then you go all the way southwest and work your way slowly north, carefully killing everything that spawns. End result is that your Seige Turtles have to fight a total of one mob: at the beginning. See GuildWiki for more info.

Thanks for all the encouragement! Just knowing that other sins had henched it made me keep at it. Got it today using the spear once and broadhead arrow, disrupting shot and savage shot to keep him dazed and interrupted. Only lost one hench. Probably could have done it with sin primary interrupts but dazed seemed like the best bet for me right now as I haven't capped silencing shroud yet. Anyway thanks again for all the tips!
