PvE has its own rules?
Stupid Shizno
Im not sure if this has been stated before, as I just recenlty decided to make a memser (after having 3 green mesmer staffs and 5 super runes for the mesmer i decided to make one) I own both games, but still prefer to make my chars in tyria, then xp farm them in factions doing the many 3,000xp quests then run them to deserts for accension, total time is about 24 hours of playing. Anyways, as i was fighting doppleganger, i was using a nice e-denial build my guild uses for gvg, thinking it would work. I came to realize after attempting this 3 times, doppleganger still has energy after i suppoesdly shut down his energy. whats up with this? glitch? bug? or is doppleganger part of the x-files?

the Dopple is an interesting chap. I can give you some advice... take a bunch of skills like clumsiness, empathy, etc... then go ahead and get in melee range with him and hit distortion and spirit of failure.
He goes melee when you are in melee range.

Doppleganger will undoubtedly have more energy than you... always. It's unsure as to how much. Though, if you're fighting yourself, how come he didn't deplete your energy?
Just dump backfire on him and take heaps of non-interrupting mesmer spells. That'll kill him.

Take 2 skills, nothing else.
Backfire and Empathy.
Cast Backfire instantly then cast empathy then let him kill himself while you do nothing. Easy Peasy.

The Doppleganger, if no one else knows, cheats. It shouldn't be a secret to you since you have beaten it before (with another character).
Many people like the 1-2 combo Backfire and Empathy. To me it isn't always a good thing. Backfire hurts you if you cast a spell. As a spellcaster, that's what you do. Oh, of course, don't cast backfire while backfire is on you. Guess what, you cast that first, then you probably won't be able to cast empathy without being hurt. Even once the backfire is finished on you, it probably would have been finished on the doppleganger before that time, which it can once again cast on you. Empathy will no doubt be the spell that casts it, but you will still be hurting badly, unless you can evade the attacks.
My suggestion is to use Spirit of Failure, Spirit Shackles, Empathy, Res Signet, Illusionary Weakness, Signet of Capture, Distortion, Physical Resistance. Cast IW before you start touching the stones. Make sure you have full health before touching the last stone.
Start casting Spirits, then Physical Resist, then empathy. Distortion is last.
Once done, just sit back and relax. Spirits, Physical Resist, Distortion and Empathy are totally useless to the doppleganger because you aren't attacking. You will cause the doppleganger to lose energy and give yourself energy. Distortion is an option for you to cast (not necessary). The doppleganger will cast IW and lose life. Since its in battle, no health regen.
Death will occur eventually, and you will be victorious, with lots of life.
I don't know what your 2nd profession is, but whatever you do, don't bring healing skills. IW is the only healing you'll need (if at all). If you have a pet, bring it and only pet skills. Doppleganger has not pets, so you can use your pet to kill it no problem.
Hope this helps.

Sorry to say, but you cant take your pet to fight the doppleganger.
You can equip the skill, but i wont be with you. Looks like it will be a real 1on1 fight

My friend took her ranger against the doppleganger last week. She killed it using her pet. It was in a patch probably done last month. For obvious reasons, I didn't see the fight, but that was the way she won it. My character was waiting in Augry Rock when she completed it.
Prior to that patch, yes, the pet never materialized. I think the patch done in early May allowed it to be done.

Hey hey heyyyy...
The doppleganger is generally the first time a new mesmer will have a chance for a 1v1 mesmer duel, which are generally alot more fun and requiring skill than most 1v1s. (Don't try to argue that, most other duels are just click to attack and spam skills. Mesmer needs some placing because of interrupts, hex removals, etc). You should be able to beat your dopple with a balanced setup of hexes and interrupts, because you can strategize and they can't
So bring 8 skills and fight the interrupt / hex war!

So bring 8 skills and fight the interrupt / hex war! That's only if you want to fight a sweet battle and possibly take the loss. Its fun, its hard, and exciting. Sadly, the computer is not you. It has better armor, higher level (unless you use sup runes) and usually more life. Energy? I don't know, but I doubt it has the same as you (most likely more).
Please remember this:
You are fighting someone who has the same skills on its toolbar as you do. It has the reaction time of a computer. It has better armor (unless you got a run to Droks), better weapon (wand vs bow/Axe), and fights like a 20th level with 200 attribute points. Seems a little lop sided to me. But, you have creativity and cunning on your side, right?
There are many ways to easily beat the doppleganger. It can interupt you before you interupt it. I still stand by my method as the easiest to do.

My personal favourite is bringing Backfire and Flare...
Surely the Doppelganger sorta has the upperhand? Other than been brilliant to practice interrupts on (been as he'll have Fast Casting i'd expect) his interrupts are much faster than yours. If he's anything like the typical UW style mesmer in interrupts anyway.
I have been tempted to go at it using IW and an interrupt and simply interrupting his and precasting mine before i go in

Really? They must have patched it recently then, cause I took all pet skills with my Me/R and I my pet was there for sure. Dropped him like a hot potato.

Seems that im wrong. Sorry for that. Just tested it, pet comes with you.

pet was a recent change, i beleive in the pet update (but just guessing) As for fighting the dopple I like to just beat it quick and dirty the first time but it is indeed fun to go back and fight him fairly as he is really tough against most (non dopple) builds
Evilsod
Hehe, the only reason i go back to it is to beat it faster or in more ludicrous ways.
An enemy with your exact skill set is more of a hindrance than a challenge. Beyond learning how to outsmart AI theres not much point. Although like i said, it'd be very good to practice interrupts on (thinking more in terms of /Me though now to avoid them having Fast Casting at lvl12.
So far my most bizarre method was using Price of Failure (on my E/N, god i was dumb!) and running around for 5 minutes dodging its arrows!
My quickest is a hammer warrior with Frenzy... 7 seconds ftw.

Think the fastest way was a mesmer with some necro sac skills. I forgot how I beat it on my mesmer; I was young, dumb, and using I think 3 sup runes (FTW!)and rogues armor(lol?); guess that helps explain why I like distortion so much...once I hit droks (legitly imagin that>.>) was able to sell a fellblade for a smooth 100k and get my 15k nobles black dyed (which I still have but no longer wear) and a sup runes to boot. No one cares about that though.
Long story short.
Easy win=FC+necro sacs
Distortion rules
He has godly interrupts
Do not bring shatter enchantment
Empathy is good
You used to be able to hide behind a pole; not sure if its fixed now though
Shackwrack is as good as ever
Shatter hex is also as good as ever
*posts more but rambles*

I still stand by my method as the easiest to do. Got bonus on my first try, at level 17. I don't like people taking advantage of the doppleganger's programming to complete it very much (guilty of it on other classes, doesn't mean I approve of it). Collector armor = same AL as drok armor, so the armor difference is your choice in this case. Backfire, power spike, shatter hex, all rip through the doppleganger utterly. fatboyslimerr
I stand by Backfire and Empathy being the only skills you need. I managed to get bonus first time when using this combo. You must have your finger on the backfire slot and as soon as you skip move cast backfire, then empathy. Its pure chance what they cast on you first but if its empathy your sorted. So you land backfire on them while they are casting empathy on you. So then you cast empathy while they cast backfire on you. Once this little dance is completed you run round like a headless chicken not casting or attacking and letting your doppelganger kill himself. I know its not fun but it gets the job done he he he.
First time I tried it I took meteor storm for a pips and giggles. lol, that was a bad bad bad idea. I'm pretty sure doppel has infinite energy too ![]() Francis Demeules
The only way to tell if the dopple as infinite energy is to remove his energy completely.
Edit In other words: He has not the infinite energy. Lady Lozza
Meh, empathy + distortion + kiting = dead doppleganger
![]() There are so many ways mesmers can beat their double, so even though most of us use fairly standard methods there's no reason NOT to get creative. ubermancer

Distortion + Empathy and no other skills FTW They patched that SEVERAL months ago, like 6+ Eaimirth Etaivella
I think my ele got him with 2 MS a M and a FB...think aoe patch would kill that plan though...he was still casting attunement. Ahh sup fire runes were about 8k back then...when my ele hit him that is.
