Flesh Golem, Yay or Nay?

Hello fellow Minion Masters,

I have been a minion master for some time. I have been an MM since prophecies, but as the new skill "golem" has released and with the new improvement to blood of the master. Is it suicide to be an MM? With 10 (with golem) minions, thats 25% sac (112 hp, if you have 450 hp) from Blood of the master.

Golem is very strong, i have to admit that, but is it worth it? I soon found another skill, "Aura of the Lich". It cuts the sac in half, and reduces the percentage to 12.5% (which is about 55 hp). By doing this u can spam botm and your minions will be nearly invincible.

Minions do as much dmg as a golem, seeing as the golem attacks very slowly. But yay or nay for golem?

I run with AotL. i don't like that 25% sacrifice. and it's much easier to heal 12.5% even solo.just becarefull, degen are twice as effective as normal.
(I take blood renewal to counter little degens,for huge ones...help!!)

I totally agree with the fact that the golem is too slow to say that the damages he's doing are very different from minions's

Flesh Golem or Aura Of The Lich.

Me, I say Animate That Flesh Golem. Aura Of The Lich (from Prophecies) is not a very good spell in my opinion. Its an enchantment, thus removed easily. Degen health goes through it and you like butter.

Flesh Golem leaves a corpse when it dies. Any other minion/fiend/horror do that? Nope. So Flesh Golem dies, you resurrect it again, and again, etc. Each time, use poison nova on it, and continuous bomb from 1 corpse. It dies, soul reap kicks in.

Use Blood Renewal to gain back health, or Vampiric Horror to replenish. There are many ways to combat the sacrificing spells.

If I'm not mistaken, Flesh Golem has more health, better armor, and does more damage than any other minion/fiend/horror. Yes it attacks slowly, but thats to help balance it out. If you could only cast a spell to hasten its attacks...

So, my opinion is Golem over any other elite for MM.

Yeah i noticed that. I don't have Factions so i've never been able to check first hand. But i was in FoW when our MM died as a boon prot (so i was a squishy). It hit hard, that you can't deny but it was so incredibly slow! i mean honestly, i've seen Rangers using Hornbows w/ Shadow of Fear on them attack faster. It was at something like 4-5seconds for a repeat hit, utterly ridiculous. I don't care how hard it hits, at least give it a respectable attack speed! On par with a hammer warrior at least... i want my elite to be useful, if i wanted someone to stand there and take hits i'd bring a wammo with Dolyak Signet.

The only bonus it does have is that it can take a hell of a lot of damage, and you'll always have at least 1 minion alive since it leaves a corpse you can raise it from. But that over Aura and keeping 10 minions alive at full life with ease?

It's not a yes or no question. They fulfill different roles. One might be useful at one time and another at another. Apples vs. Oranges.

They're ok only IMO.

They're awfully cute, but I'm having fun with Glyph of Energy as my new elite of choice. With a 10 minion limit, I don't want anything but the best of the best, and that means all 25 energy cost followers.

OK, golem's power resides in two areas.

#1) Golems have more life
They can take more damage and last longer than other minions (Super minion, and some call it).

#2) Exploitable corpse
Golem corpses can be exploited. This means you can easily just pull the rabbit outta the same hat again and again.



Although it attacks for a great deal of damage, the frequency is a little slower than the horrors and fiends, so it actually evens out over time. But, I'd rather have a golem in my corner than fiends or horrors alone. Primarily b/c I found that a portable corpse is much better than having to wait for a fresh one. Also, golems are great for tanking against bosses and higher level enemies.

In PvP, golems prove quite easy to take down, so I'm not so sure they're a great PvP skill.

Flesh Golem is a huge YAY! It is way easy keep your health up even with 10 Minions and no AotL. There are a lot of options on how to do this. My suggestion is that you go with the golem and experiment a little with other ways of healing back from the sac's. Find the way that best fits your play style and then kick butt.

I find flesh Golem (aka tiny), animate fiends, and animate minions, are a great team. I only use BotM for minion healing, to get up to 10 and keep going between fights, but once the blood flows it is often more efficient to just relplace the old ones. I then use a basic healling breeze to overcome the health sac, which I can also use on team mates.

There is no point letting a body go to waste, because of low energy.

I use rotting flesh for attack and because everyone likes to posion or bleed I use palgue sending, and sending doesn't need skills in cusres to work.

what ever is left in healing

works really well, so far there hasn't been a region I can't clear, including the dredges and the 2 monk bosses.

So Heck yea, grab the flesh golem

A note on Flesh Golems

Animate Flesh Golem

* Advantages to Golems:
o High Level: The golems often has a higher level than party members, giving it more health, allowing it to deal more damage in combat, and reducing damage from level-based damage sources.
o Leaves a corpse: As long as the golem dies by means other than creating another golem, it leaves an exploitable corpse which may be used to create a new golem.
o Less Expensive: Golems cost only 15 energy, the lowest cost of all the animation spells.
* Disadvantages of Golems
o Elite Skill: Being an elite skill, it removes the possibility of utilizing other elite skills.
o Limited to one: Each minion master may only have at most one Flesh Golem. If another is created before the current one dies, the previous one dies and leaves an exploited corpse.
o Slower Attack: Golems attack at a slightly slower rate, approximately once every 3 seconds. While their high level lends to high damage, the attack speeds limits the damage over time to moderate.
o Long Recharge: The skill takes thirty seconds to recharge. If the golem dies quickly or if the skill is interrupted, it may take some time before you can create a new one.


And then on, oh lets just say, Bone Horror
Disadvantages to Horrors:
* Melee attack: Horrors must approach a target, making them prime candidates for traps and ranged attacks.
* Slower Attack: Horrors attack at a slightly slower rate, approximately once every 3 seconds, giving them a low damage per second.
* Get in the Way: Horrors can occasionally body block team members often sandwiching them between foes and cutting off the means of escape.





Its the same attack rate, but the golem does alot more damage and leaves an exploitable corpse. Do what you want though, almost anything can work if you make it.

So its not that much less, and it tanks pretty nice. I only take the Golem and Fiends. 9 + 1 workds great for me.

Being that the golem can absorb great damage, I have found it particularly useful in PvE when used in conjunction with Dark Bond on my necro. I can stand toe to toe with high level melee damage dealing creatures, and emerge relatively unscathed, while my golem sponges up 75% of each attack.
The fact that even with next to nothing in Blood Magic you can still yield 30+ seconds of Dark Bond, (with an even lower cool down rate,) and you may keep it on your necro indefinitely.

At least until some a-hole Mesmer strips it off!!!

Flesh Golem + 9 Vampiric Horrors and plenty of saccing should equal for a rooaring good time.

From what I can tell, if you do just a little bit of hp stealing using basics like Life Siphon, you can combine that with vamp hp vaccuum to simply keep the machine going forever...

the idea of Taste of Death Nova bombing with a flesh golem over and over is hilarious however...

I use Flesh Golem{e} with as many vamprics as I can summon and fiends when vamp minions is recharging... The sacrifice from BotM is countered by the vamp minions life steal... I spam it constantly and I am instantly healed for the sac :}
