Luxons Earn Much-Needed Victories to Halt the Kurzicks' Push Toward Cavalon

The war between the Luxons and Kurzicks wages on, and neither side has much to show for it. Like tolling bells, success seems to swing from side to side, keeping this brutal war at a seemingly endless stalemate.
The front is just now shifting toward Saltspray Beach—the borderland between the Kurzick and Luxon nations. In recent days, Kurzick forces pushed the Luxons past the Harvest Temple. The Luxon response to the Kurzick occupation was swift and relentless, finding the weaknesses in the Kurzick strategy and exploiting them.
The Kurzicks had been using regiments that were heavy in Minion Master Necromancers, and as expected, the Luxons changed their strategy in response. Soldiers all across the Luxon front started using Verata's Aura, and thus turned Necromancers' own minions against them. The Kurzicks were unable to develop a counter-strategy quickly enough to recover, and soon lost their recently conquered lands.
The battle has now moved to Saltspray Beach. The Kurzicks have begun overwhelming the Luxons with an offense that rapidly kills opponents through the clever deployment of their Rangers. Luxon Monks have found themselves entirely unprepared for the change and are learning the price of underestimating their opponents. The tables have turned, and now it is the Luxons caught unprepared. If they wish to hold their recently reclaimed territory, they are in need of a new plan—and fast.

The Crusaders Praised Throughout Cavalon for their Escorting Service to "The Deep"

A few days have passed since The Crusaders lost ownership of Cavalon, but it will be quite some time before anyone forgets their selfless actions while they owned this bustling Luxon town. Ending months of previously restricted access to The Deep—a lightly explored area of the Jade Sea rumored to hold many treasures—The Crusaders began escorting travelers to the area free of charge once they took ownership of Cavalon.
While The Deep is said to be full of great treasures, it is also rife with danger. Yet for most adventurers, the chance of finding Zodiac Weapons—mystical glowing weapons that can be sold for large amounts of gold—seems to outweigh the risks that go along with entering an area full of deadly oni and man-eating worms. Some adventurers are even testing their Favor of the Gods by attempting to "kiss the Leviathan," the gigantic wormlike creature encased in Jade. Some veterans of The Deep claim that kissing the Leviathan rewards the adventurer with good fortune, while others warn newcomers that the encased beast is just waiting for the right moment to spring to life and strike.
One thing is certain: if you are given the opportunity to test your skill in The Deep, you should accept it. Thanks to The Crusaders, many were able to do just that, and perhaps in the future other guilds will follow the lead of this selfless guild and will offer passage to this most hidden portion of the Jade Sea.

Random Acts of Kindness

We live in a world filled with conflict and turmoil. For many, this has lead to the adoption of an "every-man-for-himself" philosophy. However, there are many who selflessly aid their fellow adventurers and who understand that we must work together to rid our world of evil. These beacons of benevolence are found throughout the lands of Cantha and Tyria. From the ruins of Ascalon to the vast Jade Sea, from the deepest corner of the Maguuma Jungle to the tallest building in Kaineng City, these men and women selflessly aid their fellow heroes with the offer of weapons, tools, knowledge, and guidance.
While one scribe could not possibly come to know all of these exceptional individuals, it has been deemed a worthy effort to note just a few in these missives, as time goes on. For instance, recently:
Hydra Shadowhawk aided a new student of the Shing Jea Monastery by presenting her with a fine pair of daggers. This sort of generosity is beneficial and practical, as a well-armed citizenry may be of real aid in the effort to cleanse the island of the monstrous Afflicted. Hydra Shadowhawk clearly knows the maxim that one man's trash is another man's treasure, and does not hesitate to give without payment. Dwayna blesses all those who give more than they receive.
In Kaineng City, Yatsui Tsundai spent considerable time patiently answering the questions of lost or confused travelers, as well as those newly arrived in Cantha. Yatsui provided a valuable service by freely giving of his local knowledge. With the new threat of the plague, and with armies of rogue guilds attacking unprepared adventurers, such knowledge can mean the difference between life and death.
On a lighter note, Sukimoto Daggerfist spent some time giving dance instructions to young students, and then organized a spontaneous dance party. While this will not directly aid the young people in their quest to overcome evil, it does allow for entertainment and relaxation between battles. Simple joys make our world a better place.
To all benevolent teachers, sincere thanks for your kindness. What to you is a simple piece of advice or an unneeded item can prove to be of great value to another. The heartfelt gratitude of a fellow citizen is treasure, indeed. Be helpful, be generous, and above all be kind to all those around you.

I think it's an excellent idea to give recognition to people who have done nice things. It's... heartwarming.

I think it's a great opportunity for me to try and get into the Scribe report by doing absolutely nothing in a clever way. It's great that they're recognizing many people that have been caught red handed helping people out. I'm glad they recognize individuals as well as noting the TC guild for giving free Deep ferries. The Deep for all! At the same time though, I can't help but scheme about what I can do to get my 15MB of fame O.o

No no, it's like.. an article about a mixture of PvE and PvP, a bit like the State of the Game. A weekly newsletter, if you will.

The Scribe's dont need to be in the game, I'm sure the devs can simply monitor city's or districts and just look at the chats or trades for a bit. Or just unknow people who wander from outpost to outpost and observe the people there.

However if they are ingame, I doubt they'll make themselves known to the public to avoid mass hysteria by people who want to get mentioned in the next update.

Hmm well interesting idea, though the things mentioned aren't particularly impressive or noteworthy... giving someone some stuff or "type /dance to dance!" not like it's hard to get naked dancers everywhere hehe

The Scribe is a great addition to the website!

I really like the fact that you mention specific characters that have done something noteworthy. Makes the game seem more like a vibrant world!

Well done!

Because honestly, whats the point? This game sells due to the PVP aspect of it being displayed. Why do you think that at E3 there was no super pve mission?

While its fun to see some things like the aliance battle update and such, its pretty much irrelevant as you can log into gw, hit "M" and find out foryourself without having to read all that BS. and personally i could care less about someone giving dance lessons in the game. how hard it is to type /dance? if i could train my dog to sit, im sure that i can press 6 keys in the right order.

While yes it is refreshing to see people actually sit down and explain things to people when they arrive, had they took an extra 5 seconds to glance over their quest log, they would know where to go and who to talk too.

im sorry but i dont see the point in rewarding common sense

Obviously neither side has much to show for it and it will always be an endless stalemate since the design of the game makes it impossible to completely annihilate one side.

Of course success swings from side to side, that is because the design of the game stacks the maps to give the losing side an unfair advantage.

Surely "The Scribe" knew all this, yet still posted misleading info anyhow.

Based on stuff like this, the whole "Scribe" idea seems rather silly.

The cynicism is strong with this one.

Personally, I think its a great idea - now put the scribe in the game as an NPC and you're on to a winner

This is pretty cool, the scribe. Reminds me of the Final Fantasy XI Vana'diel Time's. The "in game" newspaper you can access at the main Playonline portal (before you launch the game).

This seems far more specific in terms of names and groups vs what's going on in the world that FFXI had.

The Scribe is a nice addition to the website. However, it doesn't work well on my Firefox.

Screenshot

Now if you folks insist on making small pop up windows with no option to resize them, make sure they look good on popular browsers at least.

It works fine here. The windows auto-resizes itself. Check your JavaScript settings.

Not cynicism, just being real. this has happened since day one, well not the aliance battles, but there have always been people giving tips and giving away junk because they couldnt sell it or didnt want it, so why all the attention now?

what next? a article every week on who sold the most items? or who farmed the most red iris flowers from presearing? do i get my own personal gold cape for making the list?

They should mention players who do well in alliance battles. Those that stand out and can singlehandedly turn the tide.

Since they can read everything from the servers, they should find the "generals" in alliance battle and give them some credit

To promote a "good" atomsphere / in game experience, to show players or perspective players it's not all doom / con artists / and cut throats (assasin jobs aside).

There alwasy bad news / bad experince personal stories, but rarely good one's and this is a good vehicle.

I think it is good idea, personly they can make it more of rpg thing. By choosing a boss and do a bio on the boss.It doesnot have to be a boss but a place in the game. i think the events thing rocks too.

there could new on where about on gwen. new pve build vs the pvp builds :P cool stuff like that

I think its ****, (...four letters and starts with C, take a guess)

1) It shows favoritism in a world wide game(dont get me started)
2) It encourages new players to whisper said players and ask for acts of kindness as well, which is quite annoying
3) In this "Issue" it goes to show ANet, doesnt even like,or supports their own idea about "Elite Missions", again dont get me started.

Sorry ANet but you still favor PvP way too much, better luck for the pro's who made The true Guild Wars

Well, I like the scribe idea and reading the little newsletter doohickey was nice. Sometimes it's good to get away from the negativity of forums and just read something pleasant and light.

I reckon it will rub off on some of the players, they'll be in towns doing good stuff to try and get into The Scribe.

I think the Alliance battle bit was to make it seem like something good is actually happening...when it means nothing.

To the nay-sayers: Exactly what would you say is wrong with this? "It encourages people to ask for stuff," maybe, but I doubt it. I get the feeling they're looking at local chat type stuff. It would be kind of weird if they just went over some random PM logs. Also, I think most people are smart enough to realize that they aren't going to get mentioned for giving items to people who say "gimme your stuff to get mentioned in the scribe!!111" So what if some people get mentioned for doing good things? It's pretty ridiculous to criticize this, as it's not depriving you of ANYTHING to not "get in." It's not "rewarding" anyone at all, unless you find it so necessary for your ego that you just HAVE to get mentioned and be "famous".

To sum up: There are always going to be whiners about everything.

Thank you for understanding. Some will like it, some won't. It's really ok! So for those who don't understand or care for the notion, please do feel free to avoid reading The Scribe. But for those who value the excellent spirit of our community, and feel it's a lovely gesture to call out a few of those who contribute, we hope you'll continue to enjoy the issues!

E3. Hardcore gameplayers and ppl in the gaming industrie have time to go to that or the casuel player who happens to live in that town.

And oh Mistress whats wrong with helping new players? It's not like YOU are forced to do it.

Oh and you know what ANet's "own idea about Elite Missions" is ? You apply your own interpretation of what you "think" it should be and attribute that to ANet.
