Canthan chests arte basicly pointless, they are like chests from lions arch or maguuma jungle
Ive done more then 100 chest openings with my monk in luxon area, near fort aspenwood, and like 70% of them were gold. But only 20% were enaugh good to not sell them to merch
My advise, keep 3-5 keys always by you, you never know what you get
Edit: best place to run chests in shiverpeaks, is Port sledge, thats near droknar forge. 3 chests there, so buy 3 keys at the time. Use skills: Sprint, Charge, Balanced stance, healing signet, endure pain. Also you may put a healib breeze or heal area if you try as W/Mo.

Well, Obsidian's and Phantoms are still ok.
I did a load of running round Sledge to raise my Treasure title... you get golds but the "perfects" from them just aren't really worth it (e.g. 15%^50 req 8 spiked axe ~10k after goodness knows how many chests). I made more money from the salvaging mods off what I found there (couple of 20/2s and 30hp for various weapons).
