Success of the "Looking for a Guild" thread?
Acca
I'm curious to know if many people have had success with looking for a guild by posting in that thread, and also if many leaders/officers here use the thread frequently or at all when looking for members?
Run Red Run
As someone that recently tried to start a guild, I did frequently check the LFG thread. I PMed a few people that sounded good and never got a response from any of them.
I have a friend that posted recently and he said he's not having much luck.
I'm not sure the thread isn't the best avenue for finding a guild, but it doesn't hurt to put up a post.

I'm a guild leader actively recruiting and I check it all the time. I think the best LFG posts are the ones that are honest and reasonably detailed about their expectations in a guild. It helps me know who may realistically be interested in my guild. I PM folks who look like they'd be a good fit.
For example, I saw your post, and don't think you'd be interested in my guild. For one thing, my guild is predominantly in the eastern US. I'm open to developing EU membership, as I think diversity in time zones is a good thing (I play at weird times), but today my guild doesn't satisfy your stated desires. We don't have anyone in the EU today.
So, I hope other EU based guilds PM you, but if you don't get one, it's likely because guilds checking the thread don't think they're a good fit for you. There's other forums, you could always try their LFG threads to increase your odds.

I didn't make this thread to draw attention to my own post in that thread, or for feedback on it, but thanks anyway for your comments
. The reason I asked about this was because after I made that post, I sat back and wondered to myself if many people actually used the thread to recruit, and if many of the other people who made posts there had been contacted much if at all. I'm not terribly worried if people are going through the thread, see my post but but don't contact me for whatever reason, so long as people are actually looking there, you know?
In the short time since I made this thread though I've heard from two people that look to it for recruits, so I am probably just being too pessimistic.

Yup I'm sure lots of people look through that LF guild thread. I'm one of them. As long as you're specific and realistic in what you are looking for, you should get a reasonable response rate.
Good luck with your search.

I have successfully recruited 70+ from the thread in the past 6 months or so, and I often get PMs from folks saying they received multiple responses. I think as suggested above that people posting need to be pretty clear about what they are about and looking for, so guilds can determine the fit. We look for mature players so if the posting sounds too "l33t" I usually don't bother responding. In addition we often are looking for certain types of folks depending on which of our 10 divisions is recruiting the most at the time. As it is now we are at 600+ plus I am a bit more choosy about who I PM.

Yes, i would have to say it is very successful. I find that most people don't respond to pm's over the msg board however. Your best bet in making your LFG post count is putting your IGN in the post or actually checking for responses. I've found 2 of my best officers from the LFG thread and recruited a handful of others. With that being said, keep in mind sometimes you can be mislead by a LFG post, i've gotten one of my worst members from this(no longer in guild).
DeanBB
I look at it whenever it is updated and if someone looking for a guild fits us I send them a PM. Perhaps 1 in 10 has resulted in someone signing on with WPG, a few more have responded, most I never hear from.
Swampgirl Inez
I used it a few months ago and had great success finding a new guild. I had about a dozen PM's in a short time. I admit I didn't respond to all of them (there were too many and a few didn't even fit what I was looking for), but it definitely gave me some good choices and a new guild.

I think people who WERE looking for guilds should go back and edit their posts to say "Guild Found"?
DeanBB
That would be nice, and some do. I kinda know which posts are new so ignore any old ones, assuming they have found a guild already.
Billiard
I could go through and delete everything older than a month I suppose . . .
DeanBB
Doing so would force those who are still looking to post again so recruiters could tell who is still looking. I suppose a policy should be posted so those who have posted know what to expect?
Perhaps at the same time those looking will lower their requirements from "looking for the most absolutely perfect guild" to "looking for a good guild"?

Looks like the older posts have been deleted.
I don't have to look through 30 pages anymore

Its ok, but I preffer to join guilds when im online playing guild wars for some reason......
But If im ever going to need/find a guild (which I hope dosnt happen) I'll post there, it seems effective and does the job.

I use it all the time to look for members. Found a couple this way, PM'd a bunch more, but I can understand not hearing back from everyone I send a message too. I also only PM/contact the ones that seem to fit my guild the best (the more honest and detailed the better). |

I only posted mine a few days ago. And I haven't had any guild contact me yet. I guess it just takes time. :|
M1h4iL
I find that thread rather useless, I tried it once or twice with no success, then I went to: http://www.guild-hall.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=21 and looked through the various guilds and now I am in a pretty good guild, was a very useful site for when I was looking for a guild.
Kaguya
Well after I posted some time ago, I received ~4 replies.. Too bad the guild I actually joined died after couple of weeks :P
DevilStick
To neuronmonster and M1h4iL - it may be that your criteria were specific and/or selective enough that guilds monitoring the thread didn't think you would be interested. That's not a bad thing, in that you aren't wasting your time with a guild that doesn't suit you.
In addition to the thread M1h4iL pointed out, GWG has a guild database. That's the GWG equivalent I think.

The more stringent your requirements are the fewer responses you will get. WPG is a PvE guild so I don't bother sending a PM to people that are primarily PvP or want a combo of PvP and PvE. Those that want a PvE guild just for farming also won't hear from me.
Other than that, someone looking for PvE will get a PM from me unless they specify only EU or something like that. We're international so I will send a PM to those if it looks like a good fit but I do specify that we have a majority of NA players in the guild so hopefully there are no false impressions up front.
We add 3-4 players per week I'd say, with 6 last week plus a guild looking to ally with us.

That explains it. Mine is very specific. Only because I can never find the right guild for me. :\ Maybe I shouldn't be so picky/demanding.
Snograt
I've sent guild invites to 6 people on the thread over the last three days and no response yet.
Still time I guess
There's also the problem with people not updating the thread when they find a guild. Also, if you post in the Looking for a Guild? thread, PLEASE remove whatever guild name is in your profile or people will assume that you HAVE found a guild (not always true!)

OMG! That could be a problem. Thanks for that suggestion. *removes guild name*

Mr Urthadar
Guild wars is all about guilds. (duhh). I think anet dropped the ball when it comes to the `guild building' aspect of the game. Recruiting people is such a pain, that it sometimes does not seem worth the effort.
What anet *ought* to do, is to have some sort of `recruitment' interface on their website. Or maybe a http://recruit.guildwars.com domain.
Why should they do this?
1) They (anet) have *all* of a guilds info available - member count, activity status, etc.
2) They have everyone's character / account info.
3) They have *everyones* `login' info.
The 3 points above gives them enough information to create a very powerful recruiting system. I'll describe how the recruitment process could work ->
Joe Blow is looking for a guild. He is a hybrid player PvE / PvP that is looking for a hybrid guild that GvG's regularly. He also wants a guild that has had at least 15 members active in the past 2 days.
[FoK] guild is a hybrid PvE / PvP guild looking for members. FoK has been GvG'ng a bit lately and is just short a couple of a consistent team. They have had 15 members active in the past 2 days.
With all of the data available to anet, they can easily match up players to guilds based on the potential guildie's criteria. That is, FoK could be matched up to Joe Blow.
Even better, is that the recruiting guild can look at the potential new guildie's stats. Hmm, that guy only has 20k balth faction, probably won't work.
The beauty of this all is that no one has to create an account - just use your GW login. This could make finding a guild so much easier. Anet could even allow you to accept a recruit right from the web page.
Of course, this would be a lot more work then I make it out to be. But, honestly, it's not a monumentous programming effort. Well, at least we can dream.
It probably would not take much to build a community site to handle this type of transaction. User enters a guild criteria, gets back a list of guilds, and sends a message to the guilds he is interested in. The only down fall is that the community site *would not* have access to character or guild information. So there is no way to validate guilds or guildies. But really, anything is better than surfing a LFG thread.

Please don't take this as picking on you or anyone, I just saw your new/updated "pick me" post so thought I'd comment on it and this seemed like a good place to do so. I'm hoping this helps someone to find a guild, helps them to think about what is listed for their requirements.
The list of "requirements" for the guild being sought after:
• Maturity <--- Agreed, important, how do you know for sure from a guild invite?
• Must be Luxon <--- Why exactly does this matter? Your individual characters can interact with either side. Are you wanting to faction farm? Own a town?
• Must have a steady and standing alliance <--- For what? Do you want to own a town? Why is alliance important?
• Must be very helpful <--- Yes, but how do you know for sure?
• Member count doesn't matter, just a decent amount would be nice <--- Kinda conflicts with being in an alliance, it seems. I'd think the idea of the alliance is for a larger pool of people to team with?
• Must have a fairly decent rank (Not that big of a deal) <--- This is mutually exclusive with the PvE requirement, there is no rank for a PvE guild
• Must be stable <--- Yes, but again, hard to tell?
• 16+ age group guild (Or at least have mature people. Not all 16+ are mature. :P) <--- I'd leave it with the "mature" requirement above. Guys play girls and girls play guys and who knows how old people are in GW?
• PvE (PvP and GvG and AB are welcome as well, but isn't too important) <--- see above for Rank comment. This is a good way to list it, your priority is PvE and you have some casual interest in the PvP side, seems clear to me.
• Team Speak (not that important) <--- Is this a generic chat system comment or are you excluding Vent?
• Website/Forum (Its good to read updates and just random stuff from the guild and about the guild) <--- These last 3 are good, basic requirements and a website/forum can be a big help in deciding if a guild is right for you if you can browse through the guildies discussions. It should help alleviate some of the above concerns with maturity, helpfulness, etc.

Ultimately I think people need to learn what they can about a guild either through a web site/forum or chatting with a recruiter and then give them a try. It should not cost anything to join a guild or be a part of a guild and so if it doesn't work out for playing times, attitudes, Prophecies vs Factions, PvE vs PvP, etc then you can leave and try another. Letting the leadership know you are leaving would be good, perhaps they can work on correcting whatever the issue was that caused you to leave.
