Does The Search Option Ever Work?

First of all if this has already been posted i apologize but when i went to look for it the search option was broken, somewhat ironic I know. I've been coming to this site for about 4 months now and i think the search option may have worked once, though I'm not entirely sure, it might have been when the East coast had that huge power outage. Anyways is there anyway to fix this because the forums are extremely handicapped by this search being disabled, and for anyone that says use that Google search alternative, that is even more useless.

That Google search is utterly useless for searching this forum. If it at least was able to search a subforum it might be of some value.

Little bit of humor here, I believe I'm changing the Site Feedback forum to No! Search Does Not Work

We are right now reviewing and seeing about moving guru across multiple servers with a seperate database server. I have not heard word back if this is possible yet but this would be the time that search would be re-enabled. I'll give any updates if I am told a date.

I concur... nothing is more frustrating than seeing a newcomer post a question on the site and than one of the mods coming down like the hammer of gods.

The posts with the "There is a search button, use it. Thread closed." Normally, makes me cringe at the mod who was so quick. I have noticed 99% of the time that Search well... doesn't. And sometimes I never see the user post again. Imagine your first time coming to this site and seeing that your cry for help, your opinion, or your idea was seemingly arbitrarily closed and you are sent referring to a tool that is more likely to fail than work.

You'll have to excuse me for this question, as it may be construed as an insult to your intelligence, though in no way is it meant to be:
In those threads, are you sure that the posts saying that weren't regular posters rather than moderators?

Unless the name is bolded (or blue? No clue, firefox doesn't support most of the special name colours), it's not a moderator.

I ask this as some posters, whether new to forums in general, or just to specific ones, may not be familiar with how status is indicated.
That, and because I honestly rarely see it from moderators. I even went so far as a to run a search for "Use the search button", and I pulled up-

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+ button
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+ button
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+ button
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+ button
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+ button
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...earch+b utton

within the last 2-3 months.

Only the 5th and 6th links have moderator comments telling posters to search, though the 1st link probably counts towards that as well. But also note that all three of those threads are in a forum with a sticky that addresses their questions as it is. (builds threads for the campfire forums for each profession, and a Sardelac index which does indeed include the auction house suggestion) Even when the search is down, the stickies are always available.

The 2nd, 4th, and 6th links have questions resolved by other users before a moderator steps in and closes the thread.

What do all 6 threads have in common? All 6 threads have other posters, as opposed to moderators, telling other posters to use the search button.

Now, I realize that 6 threads is hardly a definitive sampling. No matter what the 6 may indicate, it's wholly possible that the entirety of such posts gives a far different result. But they're what popped up from the search, which can be replicated whenever the search comes back up again, and they're also what I'm familiar with seeing, generally. Though, that could also be because I don't frequent Ventari's Sell, Campfire/Gladiator's Arena, Sardelac, and Q&A too often.

If you find threads where a moderator has posted such a comment and closed the thread, and the question/comment/suggestion isn't already in a sticky for that forum and didn't already have a duplicate thread on the front page (possibly extending to the second or third) of that forum, then by all means, feel righteous ire.

Cut and Paste the link to the thread, scroll down to the moderator who closed it, and PM them and explain it politely. If they don't respond in a timely manner, or give you what you feel is a poor response, you can always move up the hierarchy. Inde and Lasareth are excellent administrators who are more than willing to help forum posters with their concerns. And of course, also as a PM.

Once again, this is not meant to sound condescending or insulting. I just prefer to clear up potential misconceptions when possible. If that is not applicable, then skip straight to the PMing part. Mods make mistakes too, and we're more than happy to cooperate when that's the case. And if not, you can be assured that Inde and Laz will be even more than happy to put us to task. x_x
