I just came up with this GREAT idea we now have minions limits right and a little counter in the top of the screen...
Why not make some skills elite and not elite that take up more space then 1 minion?
Here are some examples.
Animate bone Refresher [e] 25/3/60
Animates a lvl 2-20 Bone Refresher that casts healing breeze/orison of healing and healing touch on random members that need healing. Takes up 2 minion spots. takes double damage from melee attacks.
Animate bone flyer 15/4/10
Animates a lvl 1-18 bone flyer that flies high in the sky and cant be hit by melee attacks. Only 1 can be summoned at a time takes up 2 minion spots.
Animate Bone dragon [e] 25/5/120
Animates a lvl 20-31 bone dragon that follows the party and attacks foes.
Uses 2 corpses Only 1 can be summoned at a time. Takes up 3 minion spots.
This minion suffers from double degen.
Minion Geyser 15/5/20 (posted by sistermercy)
Casts a well at the nearest corpse location for 6-15 seconds. Any deaths within its radius animates a lvl 4-12 bone fiend.
Animate Bone caster 20/3/30 (suggested by wrath of dragons)
This minion casts weak ice spells but sacrifices 10% of his HP and 2% of yours every time he casts a spell. Takes up 2 minion spots.
(Casts Ice shards 10-30 dmg and Deep ice shard 10-40 dmg and 10% slower moving for 10 seconds)
Animate necro construct [e] 15/3/60
Summons a stationary Necro construct that buffs necro skills attributes with 1for 10-40 seconds. Takes up 1 Minion spot.
Well what do you think? not that hard to implent and makes the game a lot more diverse healing necromancers ftw
(If you got more suggestions or critics etc post em here ey )

i want a dragon :[
Anywho, I think the last one is a cool idea. The second is iffy, as GW hardly has a decent z axis *cough phoenix* But the ideas are sound, hope the dragon doesn't get too overpowered :[

Meh working on some drawback of the dragon.... but for now double degen is nice. but the size of the dragon needs to be adjusted though how the **** can you summon a 5m high dragon from a little lynx corpse?
ooh and flying would work have you checked the seagulls? something like that not that hard ^^

What if you are required to sacrifice multiple corpses for one Bone Dragon?
Animate Bone dragon [e] 25/5/120
Animates a lvl 20-31 bone dragon that follows the party and attacks foes.
Only 1 can be summoned at a time. Requires 2 corpses. Takes up 3 minion spots.

I like the idea of special minion spells, since it will bring more variety to MM builds.
I don't think there should be a minion that heals your party, it goes against the nature of minions. But perhaps one that randomly heals your other minions only with health regeneration and small healing spells.
The Bone Flyer is okay, but it should be able to get hit by all ranged attacks and spells though.
Doesn't this skill look too much like the Animate Flash Golem skill?
Nice ideas though, keep it up!

Its different because of the cost it takes up a load of minion places so it has to be a little bit more powerfull (like the bone dragon wich does use deafening roar).
The bone geezer can only use low lvl no divine favor healing skills so the healing is reduced to just a littl extra.... and yeah ok the bone flyer should only be able to evade all melee attacks.

I like the idea. Those sound pretty balanced and it'd be cool to see something like that.

My top request for MMing still continues to be a minion menu so that you can target them without having to mouse-click them (sometimes requiring several tries in an active playing field).
Should be a sacrifice skill, if it does healing -- makes more sense, if it's to be in the Necromancer skillset. i.e. Minion sacrifices 10% health to heal nearest party member 1-8 health for 1-6 seconds.
Anything that can't be hit by anything else is just too prone to abuse. But sgtclarity is correct about the z-axis. We can melee punch enemies standing several hundred feet up on a bridge.
Level 20-31? Geez, with only 1 point in Death Magic, I can have a level 20.
I'd try lvl 8-19 (a cushion for those with rune, weapon and scar bonuses), a cost of 20, and usage of 2 minion spots. Generates fire damage, of course.
Geezer=old and brittle? When I saw the subject line, I thought "either that's a minion no one will want to cast based on name only, or it's a misspelling." Causing me to jump to the following idea:
OTOH, Necros are nearing invincibility in PvE already due to mob corpse availability, although balanced in PvP. I wouldn't recommend focusing on more PvE skills, but on PvP ones and playability (i.e. the selectable minion menu).

Need to be able to raise more minions, regardless if they add this or not.

Well sistermercy make the elite only availeble to lets say lvl 20 people (so low lvls cant abuse it) might balance it a bit more
And the Bone Refresher is Fine as it is (another name is welcome though)
How about Bone refresher?

Wrath Of Dragons
oooooh! an undead imp: summon a lvl XX-XX Undead Imp
this imp casts spells, but sacrifices HP each time it does.
An interesting twist:
It is very powerful....but it sacrifices YOUR HP when is casts.
and to the bone refresher...maybe instead of it hurting itself when it casts, have it use up like 6-2 of your energy each tim it casts, and when your energy reaches 0, it dies

Like i said he is fine as he is easy to kill when you got a warrior against you so he already is kinda gimped dont gimp him more....
And some people dont realise that they take up more then 1 minion spot... so its already a huge sacrifice to have 9 minions even less when you cast one like those...

...for the idea, anyway. I'm not so sure about the examples you've given, but I like the idea. Having more of a variety of minon raising skills makes for more diverse MMs, so you don't have to be a cookie cutter.

u can only have 10 minions...and u gotta remember monk heals increases minion degen so it would have to b a minion that runs around massin bom and vs
taking up 2 minion spots makes so less minions and 10 is alredy prety low

Monk heals do not increase Minion degen. Proven false a long time ago on GWO.

You dont need to take those skills sheesh its only meant to make the MM more divers.... If you dont wanna use those skills dont but if you wanna be different more supportive or more gankwise you can take those skills.

Concept: neat as all get out. This is the type of stuff that would make the game real fun, eh?
Meta: No. No no no no no no no. WAY too much attention for one already powerful (and narrow) class. Before skills like these start popping up, I think there should be more attention to supporting other classes and builds. Spending time on these skills would be a waste of Dev time, imo.

Having a necro I would say yes...if I was not balance oriented. However, this would throw the game out of balance because it would basically be spirits that come from corpses. Minions generally are very basic, doing only damage.
Already necros are versatile, this would add to their versatility a little too much, no? Flying creatures are a no, since no characters can "fly" and neither can monsters. The "flying monsters" can still be hit by melee.
EDIT: If there is a bone "dragon", it should just be a ranged version of the bone golem with no extra frills like interrupts or whatnot.

You can only have Bone Golem alone(or Titan, forgot the name), because it is a powerful elite. Take that and make it a ranged Bone Dragon, I would imagine it is an elite that only allows you to use him and no other minions.
If it has the moves that a real bone dragon has, it is certainly way more powerful (choking gas).
Under this Pretense, you should be able to have 2 bone Minions per each animated slot since they are actually half a minion in power, but that isn't what we have.
All they have to do to limit the use of powerful minions is increase the cast time, like Vampiric Horror, in the end you have minions which are powerful, but harder to accumilate, and cost more, they don't need to be limited to a certain number of minions unless they are elite Undead like Bone Golem, which is all sorts of powerful all by itself.

Say.
Animate Bone Dragon.
Destroy 6 allied minions, conjure level [something]...[something] Bone Dragon.
Bone Dragon has ranged attacks.
takes up 2 minion slots.

They're really cool ideas...it would be great to do stuff like that BUT:
It really does make an MM necro into his own one-man-army (as if MM's didn't do this well enough already) - i mean, he can summon his own monks, his own damage dealers, his own defensive and offensive casters - so long as he can get the first kill and the first corpse to get things rolling then he really doesn't need a party or henchmen at all 'cos he just summons his own. So for reasons of balance, i'd say, no. Shame though, 'cos it would be cool.

So, your basically proposing making an mm stronger? Once an mm has bodies he/she is already a death dealing machine. Let's just say that you can run through the whole game (minus one or two missions) with an mm pretty darn quick.
BahamutKaiser
I think your vastly overlooking the power of a bone dragon, at least a fully functional bone dragon. Bone Dragon in itself is a Ranger class undead unit, and it uses Choking Gas. In all normacy, a real bone dragon summoning shouldn't exsist, but if your summoning anything powerful it should simply take all minion slots. Like said before, unless they change it around so that Animate Bone Minions only counts for 1 minion slot of every 2 summoned, it isn't right. having stronger minions can come with other delimiters rather than taking multiple slots.
As for my pervious idea for summoning a bone dragon, I perviously suggested that there be an Elite Enchantment which causes a Bone Dragon to spawn out of your own corpse if you die. In this way it would only work if you die, and it would only continue to exsist til your ressurection. This way you can gain control of a fully armed and high level Bone Dragon, and take direct control of using the Bone Dragon with all its skills when you die.
They could make Minions which cost larger portions of your minion pool in order to justify better minions, but there is already a huge difference between Bone Minion, Vampiric Horror, and Bone Fiend, under these pretenses, Vampiric Horror should take up 2 slots, and so should Bone Fiend, because they are clearly as effective as 2 bone minions. What your really going to end up is further imparament of the MM build with a few fancy new Undead additions, it is better to work around the exsisting constraints then to make up new ones which will ultimately reduce the MM capacity even more.
