People hoarding Sapphires like crazy?

I guess someone must have discovered a hidden NPC in the game and he is just not tellin'

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that sapphires have not been selling at the trader since like 2 weeks ago? I only wanted to get 15 more to complete my stack of 250

some on sell in droks (american server) like 10mins ago was 1.7k each or something stupid

I really wonder what happened to it.

There are no way anyone going to sell it to merchant now, since it is like 550 or something to sell to merchant when the merchant has none, which doesn't make alot of sense.

Lol guies like me are buying them up I like them nice and cheap I am now worked on the gems now it is the red ones.

I figure when the armors are out man I going to look cool

People are hoarding them for when the price is going to spike right before the release of chapter 3, once all of the "l33t r00by armor" rumors are in full swing. I guess a few people decided to clear out the rare material trader and are counting on the fact that they'll be able to get their money back in September/October.

I'm pretty sure some big farming guild(s) has bought the sapphires.

Ill deal with a ruby/saphire based armor when it comes. Im not going to buy the trader out on speculation alone.

It's a speculation for sales.

Think of it like Steel. Many people stocked up on steel at 90 gold a piece, and when Factions came, they sold it for 400.

Ya but this speculation seems to be more of a self delusion. The speculation started before Factions, wagering that once Factions came out, there would be some valuable use for Rubies and Sapphs. But now Factions is out and we've seen that there still is no use for them. So Chapter 3 comes out, there still isn't a use for them. "Maybe Chapter 4! let's keep hoarding them up!". Chap 4...nope. "Maybe Ch. 5!" The speculation is sort of silly.

But despite what I just said, I can see how a chapter themed at least partially on Egypt might have a use for Rubies and Sapphires, though I would think Rubies and Sapphires to be more of an Arabian/Indian theme.

The thing about this particular speculation is, it can't be wrong, it just a matter of when.

ps. suppose they will drop in the future as well, but I think froggy is indicating a new drop, collectable or something else.

Whether there will be use for Sapphires and Rubies in future chapters, there will be a large price spike in those 2 materials right before the release of Chapter 3 just because people believe that they can 'cheat' their way into getting cheaper armor.

Seeing that Sapphires are very cheap right now, they can be sold to the merchants prior to the release, whether the hoarder wants the new armor or not.

Example - I purchase 250 Sapphires now for 500k. Chapter 3 is coming out next week, and sappires are sold out at the merchant. Demand is extremely high for the item, but supply is low, because I've hoarded it all (hypothetically). Selling price for the Sapphires are now at 6k, 4k higher than which I have purchased then for.

There is 1 thing i don't get though. The Gemstone weaponary... why are they not craftable using Sapphires/Rubies?

i got a sapphire drop in vizunah square yesterday. a guildie of mine got a ruby drop on shing jea.

Pretty sure there's something going on. Sapphires are sold out, rubies are still pretty cheap. That's suspicious.

Also there's something funky with the trader. He listed "last sold" as 570 gold for a sapphire, but only offered 100 gold when I asked for an offer. And he was sold out.

Thanks Hockster, that almost precisely sums up why we're surprised at the present boom in sapphire trading.

I have 3 Sapphires which have dropped for me within the past month and the trader is offering me 250g fort them - what cheek!
