Oooerrrr, my first post, lets just hope I don't mess it up. I've used the forum search facility but not seen what I need.

Ok I know how to donate my faction points to my guild and have quite happily been doing this, but recently we we're asked if we could convert them to gold to donate .... we're a small guild, just getting started, and the Boss has promised to install a spa bath in the Guild Hall and maybe treat us to a B-B-Q as well.

Anyway, I'm new to all this GW stuff and asked where I convert the points to gold and got told Cavalon.

Is this the only place I can do it or is there somewhere else sooner?

We're Luxon sympathisers if that makes a difference.

Nice site btw.

Well, it's not possible to trade faction for gold straight up. What you have to do is trade in your faction for Jade or Amber. Then you take the Jade or Amber to the Rare Material trader and recieve upwards of 2.5k a piece.

edit - /laughs heartily at StellarAshes.

The way to convert factions from Luxon or Kurzicks to gold is by visiting the first town in their territory (Cavalon and House zu Heltzer for Luxon and Kurzicks, respectively) and find an NPC with "[Faction Rewards]" or something like that. For every 1000 factions, you get 1 Jadeite Shard (Luxon) or 1 Amber Chunk (Kurzick); these are rare crafting materials needed to craft armors from both sides. You can sell those to the rare material trader or to players (and you will probably get a lot more gold from players than the trader).

Hope that helps.

Edit: Opeth beat me to it.

2.5k for Amber maybe, closer to 1k (1.2-1.3k) for Jadeite, so Luxon faction is 'cheaper'.

We're a young guild with a mere handful of members and I am an Officer, although what I did to deserve that remains to be seen.

Might just go back to donating the points - I was quite happy on my little killing spree.

There's no way to donate gold directly to the guild - you'd just have to give it to the guild leader.

And btw, it's fairly rare for new guilds like the one you're in to hold together for long - just something to consider before you go giving all your money towards it (although of course, if the people in it are nice and you think that it will, the go for it )

Also, if it's a small guild then unless it's in a big alliance there's really not much point donating faction to it. As far as i know the only thing that can achieve is to 'control' towns but that faction needed for that is way outside the reach of small, new guilds.

Finally, what the does guild need money for? If you already have a cape and a hall, that's all that's needed as such (although a storage NPC and priest of balthazar in the guild hall are handy things). But the other NPCs like the weapon crafter for instance are a very expensive waste of space, seeing as you don't use them all that often and they are available in towns.

Please don't sell it to the rare material trader, the price will keep going down if you do... down to the point where you're better off farming trolls instead of faction...

Ummm, I'll take what you've said on board and hold off for the time being. I'm a real greenback at this whole GW stuff. The guild I'm with is tiny and very quiet to say the least .... I think the only person who has ever spoken to me is the Boss .... so we're not really a 'community'.

Don't know what to do. I'd like to be in a guild that has a purpose and a plan to get there. Anyone hear of a guild looking for a pillock like me send 'em my way

slightly off-topic, but i just want to re-iterate a few things that people have already said in this thread.

the one thing that you have to do is be very careful, especially as a new player. you were asked to donate faction/gold to the guild, yet no one was willing to help you learn how to do this within your own guild. the more experienced players in your own guild should always be your primary source for knowledge of the game.

with that said, i wouldn't want for your boss to be "milking" the rest of you to fund his own desires. if he starts asking for you to donate directly to him, i would be very careful. very careful.

however, he could be very sincere in making the guild work. the money might go towards buying npc's for your guild hall for various services. but a pretty guild hall isn't what makes a guild. if your boss is making an effort to furnish the guild hall, he should also make an effort to build community within your guild.

basically, ask yourself what you're investing into the guild and what you're getting out of it. make sure that what you get out of it is worth what you put in.

my suggestion would be to use your best judgment based on your interaction with him. if he seems genuine, then work with him to better your guild. but if it seems like he's only taking advantage of you, leave and find a better guild. there are plenty of good ones on this site. don't just join random invites in-game. oh, and i doubt guilds would be looking for you. you should be looking for them. ^_~

Another thought provoking response.

I think my guild Boss, a she by the way not that it matters, is genuine if a little lacking in drive.

Our guild has storage and I think she's after getting in a Skills person. Personally I just want to get into scrapes and start a campaign for world domination.

We have a forum but it's very, very basic .... and forums are something I know a bit about. I have made a few simple suggestions on how to improve the forum so we can get that feeling of camaraderie needed to motivate people to action and encourage people to join and stay but thus far they have fallen on deaf ears.

I'd start my own guild but I'm not a leader I'm an ideas person and a slogger.

Me thinks maybe I should start researching guilds and see if there's one that has a place for me. I've been hesitant to approach a guild, being a know-nothing-noob and all that, I thought I'd get sent off with a flea in my ear.

Once again, thank you all for your words of wisdom, you've given me something to chew over.

might want to browse through this forum for a bit.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

=)

there are guilds out there who are willing to take on newer players and help to develop them. like you said, figure out what you want from a guild and do some research. btw, welcome to guild wars.

if you must sell those please at least advertise them at the npc trader's if you really need to make quick cash
honestly It actually devalues the armors made from those rare materials because the prices on the materials are going down...

Well my guild recently lost a large number of players to WoW (over 20) and as such are looking for new players to help them through and teach them how to play well. So if your on the European server then feel free to give a PM. we have a forum, Hall, Cape and most GH NPC's.

If you're looking for a guild to help you get into GW a bit then you might look at some of the big established communities (like Xen of Onslaught, the bigggest Guild Wars guild -well actually 9 guilds all in one alliance together-)who tend to be friendly, organised and good for helping newbies out. It's an easy place to start. (sticking with the XoO example, www.xoohq.com and they have a euro guild now so no need to deal with american time zones. (and no, i'm not in it - they're just the first example of a big friendly guild that comes to mind).
