The Lone Minion Master
DarkAzurea
I've been playing MM for a few missions now, and god it is fun as hell in missions! But alas, i'm questing more than doing missions, and when I quest MM is hard as hell to play and not fun. There's not always corpses to be exploited between point A and B in the quest, and it gets really difficult to manage my army.
So i was wondering what a good "solo w/ henchies" build would be, and if i get a good one can i switch to MM for Missions?
Thankee kindly

Where are you in the game? I've always found enough corpses during quests (though this was in Pre-MM-nerf prophecies) and if the army dies, the henchies usually have no trouble making another one.
But when I find MM's aren't useful (e.g. Southern Shiverpeaks onwards pretty much), and I'm with henchies I usually use blood/healing/soul reaping -
Shadow Strike
Vamp Gaze
Offering of Blood (E)
Heal Party
Blood Ritual if you want
Heal Area/ Healing Circle if you want
Whatever you want
Rebirth
This build was originally intended for the Southern Shiverpeaks onwards missions and not quests, but I think it'd work here just as well. The idea is this
- because you have to do the aggroing/pulling, you get more aggro than usual. The lifestealing skills help you stay alive.
- ..which is good because if you get a wipe you can run away and rebirth them all. This isn't as useful in quests cos you have res shrines, but sometimes res shrines are far away.
- Shadow strike and vamp gaze also deal good damage. Just hold your control key and spam it on one target. In prophecies, all that control clicking gets them all to attack the target, and when the target dies you get energy from soul reaping.
- If things are difficult you can also play the part of heal party spammer, helps you survive AOE attacks.
- You can also battery the henchy monks every now and then.
And of course, since you're a N/Mo you can respec for MM quite easily.
Well, that was my pet necro henching build anyway, hope you enjoy reading it.

Most reliable MM Build I use is
Taste of Pain Soul Feast Well of Suffering Death Nova HorrorVamp Horror
Blood of the Master
Golem {E}
Pure death and you have to manage some corpses.
Now, people will probably look at me funny with the well of suffering. Truth is, it doesn't activate AOE as often when minions have engaged the enemy. It also helps them kill faster, since the degen is doing a -6 degen (12dmg per sec guarenteed).
If you realy want to mix it up, you can replace DNova with Glyph of Lesser Energy and swap horrors for fiends. I find that that increases dmg output by group, but also lessens your body block.

Thankee kindly I sometimes use MM for missions and city quests. Areas where there are no bodies to exploit (ie: no flesh type monsters) MM is not useful period. Thankfully, there are not too many areas like that around, so MM for questing is still viable.
My MM build is (N/Me):
Animate Flesh Golem (e)
Animate Bone Fiend
Animate Vampiric Horror
Blood Of The Master
Verata's Sacrifice
Soul Feast
Death Nova
Resurrection Signet
My other MM build is (Rit/N):
Animate Flesh Golem (e)
Animate Bone Fiend
Animate Bone Minion
Blood Of The Master
Boon Of Creation
Death Nova
Life/Explosive Growth
Flesh Of My Flesh

I have no idea how you guyz manage to use Death Nova so much. Usually all I am doing is spamming BoTM and replacing minions when I play MM. Maybe I am a complete tard as far as hand-eye coordination goes. But I just cannot select a dying minion to cast death nova on it. Do you guyz have some special trick? There is no 'minion window' or some nifty hotkey to select minions is there?

Currently im using
N/Rt - 14 death - 9 soul reap - 10 channeling - 2 restoration
Animate Bone Minions
Blood Of The Master
Death Nova
Destruction (swappable skill)
Essence Strike
Spirit Rift
ELITE/Capture Sig
Flesh Of My Flesh
at 10 channeling, essence is net +1 energy when your destruction is up, so you can basically spam it while youre waiting for corpses.
the strat is very basic - use channeling skills to quickly put the hurt on enemies, as soon as one is dead, start summoning those minions - because you can queue 2 spells - just cast death nova consecutively on the 2 minions as they are coming up.
this works especially well vs. afflicted, they kill one minion - it blows up - then an afflicted dies and blows up, and then all your minions die and blow up.
however if you take the spirit henchie or are on a quest with togo, you can usually swap out destruction for something with more utility.
i havent experimented much with elites yet, flesh golem would be nice i spose, or possibly tainted/nova minions, or even clamor of souls - thats a lot of damage hehe.

As Vusak said, if you click on 1 minion cast DN, then quickly click on the next Minion and queue the next DN, both minions will be enchanted with DN.
If you think the spell will be gone before your minion, cast taste of death to eliminate that minion and heal yourself.
I don't use this method, because there is usually no reason for me to do it. Only if I think the minions are on a suicidal run (10 monsters, 2 minions, minions won't last 30 seconds.
). Usually what I do is press ALT and scan for my minions. I also look at my party to see if they are dying. Then cast Death Nova on the dying minion or party (click on each minion to see if they are 50% dead. If about 50% death and there are still monsters left, cast DN.
Its not that you are retarded when i comes to doing this, most people have a hard time trying to locate a specific minion (even I do at times). As the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect."
Hope you enjoy your Necromancer.

With Max: Death and Soul Reaping, the rest is Blood.

Please note, not all areas have corpses, and some areas just aren't worth bringing a MM into (corpses are very rare)
