first off.... no profession sucks... you need to know how to use them and have an effecient build..

The only sins that suck are the ones that think they are tanks.... is that you??? otherwise you'de know how powerful sins can be if used right!

Just because you don't like to play a sin doesn't mean they suck...

I have a sin but don't use him much because of the quick rep they got that they all suck... when used as a hit and run they can be very deadly even in pve....

HIGHLY AGREE WITH THE ABOVE STATEMENT FROM AVARRE!

Avarre said it.

There is a huge difference from playing the Mesmer class in PvE than playing other Core classes. While you don't deal that much damage, usually (even though you can), you try to disable half the mob from hitting/casting against your party (or healing), significantly increasing your chances of being alive, and making it a LOT easier to kill mobs. See, they don't kill them, they make it easier. Catalysts.

Or they could just run some sort of surge build.

[/rant]

I don't think the Assassin is the weakest PvE class. (Then again, without Factions, I wouldn't know.) I believe it's just that most of the Wammos (the annoying/stupid ones, mind) switched over and got an A/Mo.

I can't really give a speech about the Assassin since I don't have Factions, as mentioned above.

1- NO class is stronger than any other in pve or pvp, they all have there own respective uses and purposes and can be very effective if used correctly.

2- You obviously either don't have much experience with this game or your one of many experienced newbs for life.

3- Damage output doesn't make a profession powerful. I say this in conjunction to you saying the mesmers are weak in pve... even in pve mesmers can make a foe uttery useless and allow your team to take them down with ease. An assassin can shadow step a healer and drop them in less than 10 seconds, then shadow stepping back outside aggro only to rinse and repeat on another caster. They have a very bad name for being soft-skin tanks, this came about due to the many people that made sins and never learned the proper use.

4- Saying any profession is stronger than any other in either pvp or pve is like comparing apples to oranges. Different doesn't make it less effective. A profession like mesmers is one of the most feared in pvp... simply because its PEOPLE being left helpless by them and they directly realize how powerful they can be. On the other hand in pve when a mesmer tears into a foe nobody realizes what they are doing... they can leave a foe helpless as a wammo wacks away or an ele nukes them and of coarse they get the credit for the kill because its whats SEEN. Professions like the mesmer don't receive credit for what they do but groups run a lot more effeciantly with one present. People need to give mesmers alot more respect... you know how well they do their job in pvp.... they are doing the same in pve its just not as noticable as it is in pvp.

Guild Wars is a game.
Games are for having fun.
Therefore Guild Wars is for having fun.

Dude, if you like to play an assassin, play one. You should play to enjoy yourself. So what if your character isn't the best or most powerful? If you are thinking to delete a loved character just for something more powerful/popular/etc. even though you doubt that you're going to like it, think again. Beating the game/winning PvP is much, much more satisfying if you do it your way.

And btw, Avarre, you're completely right.

Yeah, I agree with Mr. Marty there. Not having fun with the sin? Introduce him to your circular file aka trash can. Try another one and hope to have more fun.

But I don't find either class, mes or sin, to be weak PvE. Typically its quite the opposite. I just find them more challenging to make as effective as other classes naturally are in PvE. You really have to know each mission well enough to know which skills to bring and constantly tweak your build for the area you are in. A good mes or sin can really hit where it hurts most, but if they miss that sweet spot, they are rendered less effective.

I'm sure a character can be played poorly and still be enjoyed. That's the biggest problem with MMOGs... We might enjoy a play style that acutally isn't the most efficient.

Lol,

I like how you decided to ask Ritualists whether or not you should kill off an assassin and create a Ritualist. Then at the sametime, ask Ritualists to convince you to keep the Assassin.

Honestly, I think you would have had a better chance to get Assassins to give you the good things about Assassins for you to reconcider your decision.

I'm new at both the Ritualist and the Assassin. I have a level 20 Ritualist and a level 10 Assasin so far. From my extremely limited experience with my Assassin, she seems to be doing very nice damage with a very weak weapon. The skills that I use do some real damage (as compared to the weapon without skills). I think of the Assassin akin to a Melee Nuke Cannon. Massive damage with paper armor. The damage can knock an opponent down to 50% of max health in a few seconds, but must be in melee range to do so. The armor is almost as strong as Rice Paper, so you know you can only take a few shots before you keel over.

Depending on how far you've gotten your Assassin I would suggest you keep it. If you've gotten to only level 15 or so, you can delete your assassin knowning that you didn't spend much time with it. However, if you've been playing for days and have gotten to level 20, you might as well keep your assassin. Why waste so much time. Assassins I think are good for learning and for protecting a monk (teleport back to monk is easier than trying to run with another character).

I am assuming you have no extra slots left, otherwise you would just create a Ritualist and keep your Assassin.

Ritualists are fun and usually find groups quickly. Assassins are the true challenge, even more so than Mesmers

Mesmers in PvE... hm... where to start... you can't find ANY PUG... if you find one and there are 8 ppl you still can be kicked for some wammo or fire nucker or, well, any other class, even assassins.
It's quite tricky to find a proper build for PvE. Degen obviously doesn't work (pressure build in PvE? yeh, right) as many bosses have natural regen. Interrupt is useless against some bosses (omg, I saw some boss casting Healing Signet in less then 1/2 sec). Energy Denial... I don't know if it's possible to drain a boss, especially after the last nurf.
But it's not PvP so Empathy and Backfire work marvels in PvE.
Should try Arcane Languor and Westrel Worries... might be fun...

I deleted mine for ritualist! I found that even if I played with perfect persion teled in killed teled out and looked for next target it was very time consuming. Another character, I dont care what it is, could use that same amount of time to just kill whatever I spent all that time being careful and ninja like. I love my rit.

The assassin has an affectionate term when being refered to, its called a Glass Cannon, a good assassin just knows when their glass is going to crack and leaves before the rock is thrown!
