I've spent a long time away...

am just wondering, what are people opinions on factions? I miss guildwars, the music, the people, the going 'Stop Rushing!' at people, even ^_^ and I was pleased with the factions Beta a while back...should I buy factions and come back, or just leave my lil' account to die

As an active player and a lover of the series, I'm inclined to say "buy it."
It's a quick game in relation to the story. 80% of it is "end game" area full of lvl 20+ mobs which means more fun for cross-over characters. The fighting style also seems a lot more "intense" to me.
Cantha is also has a very beautiful landscape (once you get out of the city)

Man With No Name
I'm basically split into two camps.
The first "happy" part -- appreciates the advancements they've made. As far as PvE is concerned:
- You level substantially faster
- You gain rewards -- gold and XP for normal play i.e. questing
- They've added more crafters and collectors
- They've added a fairly reliable source of income that everyone can obtain (amber/jade)
- You'll get at least 1 good green item @ end-game -- which you can keep or trade for.
- Once your bored of PvE --> it's on the whole easier to port your character across from PvE to PvP.
As far as PvP is concerned:
- Err....new maps maybe ?
- A few new "usable" skills
- New armors
The second "unhappy" part -- wonders just what it was they spent a year doing. As far as PvE is concerned:
- It's still devoid of *any* skill -- it really is stupidly easy. I really shouldn't be able to henchway every mission in the game, including a Mastery on Shiro (as a Warrior). Where are the tough bosses with invulnerabilities ? Why do the monsters still have shitty skill setups ? Why don't I get my ass kicked from using a ill-thought out tactic / skill setup ?
- The whole Alliance battle and faction system is retarded. It doesn't bother me that the faction system doesn't *really* affect the story. What does bother me -- is how a repeatable quest can yield more faction per hour than fighting in a battle. This leads onto my next point...
- The rewards they've added for questing and fighting in AB's simply don't give enough of a reward. Your making the same 150gp, 2000XP on Shing Jea as you are fighting level 24's in Echovald Forrest even though the difficulty increases. Likewise you can make over 6000 faction an hour by doing the supply run outside of House Zu Hetzer -- but only earn ~600 after 20 minutes if you win Fort Aspenwood
- The economy is still absurd. There's no regulation. They've added weapon crafters but no prefix/suffix crafters -- making it essentially pointless. I believe they're targetting the wrong people with their gold sinks. I don't see how anyone can justify selling an in-game item for a million gold+ -- this just forces people to grind for cash or go to an outside source -- is this what they want ?
- Drops aren't scaled to your party size. This is meant to be a party based game -- the loot should scale UP with the number of people in your party.
As far as PvP is concerned:
- The pre-mades are still junk.
- Tombs is on par with Random Arena for challenge.
- PvP characters still can't get 4 weapon sets (let's count Anet: 1->2->3->4) and an optional armor swap.
- Item dependancy is sneaking it's ugly head into PvP.
- The speed of PvP unlocks aren't on par with PvE unlocks
- How about some new PvP game modes ? How about being able to fight Fort Aspenwood / Quarry as a PvP character ?
And there's still other general bugs and quirks like:
- no z-axis
- no reconnects
- no auction house
- Their philosophy on adding a set number of skills, most of which are useless in both PvE and PvP -- is there any need for this ? How about adding less skills which have a higher quality level ? Quality > Quantity
It's about 50/50 in my mind -- the good is just about keeping up with the bad. Once you factor in the cost and the saviour that is "no-monthy fee" -- it just about swings it over to --> yes.

Welcome back CP
Buy factions. Despite what a lot of people say, its really good. The missions, monsters, enemies and environments are very different to Tyria and just as fun. For £25~ you can't complain about it.

OMG best game i have ever played you have to get it

Sadly it gets boring after about a month or so. Needs more challenge, bit better music, higher levels and stuff like that. Farming seems to be about all this game has that can hold people's interest. But even that gets nerfed.

beside the strange lag (we had weeks ago), chat improvement, afker's, I'm enjoying it -).
It's sweet to mix up the new skill and old. Also how some of the cathans are just copies that you can 2 of the same skills in the bar. (Silverwing slash, Galrath slash)
well i'm a solo player and just saw some RT farming and it looks fun! Also the assassin is fun to combo up.
also fort aspen and the jade quarry sure made me do more PVP -)
so ya buy it!

i'd say let your account die...i bought factions for the 12v12 and they screwed that up
the first few quests are "fed-ex" quests go to guy "a" then go to guy "b" then back to "a" then to guy "c" then go back "a" for the reward...dull
missions are mainly slaughter 1 group then slaughter another group..dull
farming/trading is pointless cause everything is common
