Lost will to monk
GWaddit
I recently started a Monk/necromancer and have been playing it has a primary healer for quite some time. But im starting to lose the will to monk, becuase all i end up doing is staring at my teams health bars for the entire battle. Thats all i do in pve (don't do pvp) with the ocasional running around from enimes. I mean i don't even know what we just fought most of the time.
So i was just wondering some way to get my will to monk back?

maybe take a monk vacation? there are 7 other classes :X

Thats pretty much all Monking consist of anyway. You look at the teams skill bars, any random NPCs that must be kept alive, and occasionally the enemy aggro. That is of course, if you are in an intense battle. Thats most likely not going to change, you can get burned out of a class though. I for one almost completely stopped playing my Monk after 55ing too much, and almost completely stopped playing my Warrior for similar reasons. Thats one of the reasons why there are 7 other classes, as previously stated.

its nice to just beat the game, set your monk to 55 to famr, or warrior to do runs, and work on another char. sometimes its great just to find a GvG guild, and make a PvP char and mess around with them

That's monking, take it or leave it. :]
Pick Me
Monking is more than just look at the health bar of your teammates.
To them, you are like a "god". You have the power of their lives in your hands. You are basically the one who you choose to save, and the ones you "allow" to die.
When I monk, I get my character to fight along side the other squishies (necros, elementalists, etc.). Just like driving, I scan the entire screen so I don't get blind sided or have to heal someone. I see if anyone is coming up from behind, from the sides, or more from upfront. I also look to see what we are facing, just in case no one looks for a monk or a minion master necro.
I feel your pain about being regulated to healer or bonder or protector only, but Monks are not plentiful, and if you want to complete the game, unfortunately, you must fulfill one of these rolls.
I love my monk

Try using protection, more kiting and being able to see whats happening when fighting.
But in RA, never run SHOCK on a monk/ele, I seen it before... :X

Maybe a monk vacation, explore the other classes. Or you can just 55hp farm for a while. Its so boring that you'll begin to think staring at red health bars is fun. :P

My monk was my latest character and I play him the most now (because I want 15k armor for him haha). I think what you need to do is to play an assassin or mesmer for a few weeks, then you'll appreciate staring at the party screen of real people is much better than playing with henchies all the time.
GWaddit
Ya i think ill play my mesmer for a while. I think i got burned out of monking, so ill take a break and see if i can still save ppls life.

Staring at party member screen ftw!

This isn't a good reason to stop playing Monk looking just at health bars. I look at my whole screen as I have to and radar and sometimes ping on it.This is so I direct them to the other targets.I keep my eyes on the health bars but not stare at them just like looking a speedometeror(sp) in a car.I am working on my kiting as well as I need to work on it so I do it.You don't want to stay out of the saddle to long just a tip.

I'm the type of player that just enjoys healing and I haven't played my other toons in a long time.
If you only pay attention to health bars, the game will seem boring. I simply glance at life bars from time to time. Especially in PvP, monks need to kite, so it's vital to pay close attention to your mini map and your overall positioning.
Even in group missions, I think it is vital to pay close attention to your mini map. That way, you can see incoming attackers and have time to change your positioning or throw down a spell (shield/ward/etc).
It really all depends on the type of player you are. If you like doing damage all the time and not being asked to heal, try a pure damage class. But I do side with you, it's good to get away from healing and play a different class

You could give pvp a try (even if it's just random arena), monking there has you doing a lot more things since there will almost always be someone chasing you around with a hammer or a lightning orb while your teammates are bleeding to death. It's not always so fun in RA though because you can't count on teammates help protect you. And be sure to use a pvp char if your gear sucks.
On the other hand, if pvp's not really your thing, then go do what they said and take a break by using another class.

Could be worse. Your party could make you play bonder.

In Prophesies I exclusively played monk and never got bored with it. Being a monk is more than just looking at health bars as already mentioned. Learn to become good at what you do, you would be surprised at how many don’t bother!
With the release of Factions I have 3 new characters, another monk
, a ranger and a Nec, (it makes a nice change to deal some damage occasionally).
I’ve also recently been taking the new monk to RA/TA and 12v12, which adds another side of interest.
Just mix it up a bit and add a bit of variety to your gaming experience
