1v1 and 2v2 Scrimmage Tournament this July
BBQRibs
I'd like to extend an open invite to all member of this forum for the 1st GuildCast 1v1 and 2v2 Scrimmage Tournament to be held this July, with the possibility of a single winner to walk away with 155k! The rules, prize listing and application form are included below. If you have any questions, you can email me or reply to this post.
I hope to see everyone there!
Scrimmage Tournament Rules
The Guildcast Scrimmage Tournament will be a way for players to duke it out in a friendly environment to determine who is the best of the best in both a 1v1 setting and a 2v2 team setting.
All players wishing to compete must fill out the application form (below) and either email it to me at [email protected], or post it in the Guildcast Forums 'Tournament' Board.
Qualifying contestants will be invited as a guest to my guild, Guildcast Listeners United [GLU] at the time of the tournament. Therefore it's not necessary to be a member of GLU to participate in the event.
Scheduling of these tournaments will come at a later date, taking into consideration the availability of each player. I anticipate this being the biggest hurdle for this whole event, so legs of the tournament may be played at all different times of the day during the given week or month. Scheduling times will also play a major role in who is paired up against each other in the chosen rounds. The deadline, however to get the applications in is June 30th, 2006.
Sign-ups will be taken in the order that they're received by either email or on the forums. Once a division is filled up, I'll post in the forums to let everyone know. There will be other tournaments in the future, so if you miss this one, you will have another chance later.
I will also be recording parts of these tournaments for a video compilation once the tournaments are over, so everyone can look forward to watching the action!
1v1 Rules
There will be a scrimmage battle for each profession, 8 in all, with each division beginning with 16 players, paired up in a 1v1 scrimmage. Some divisions may start with 8 players if there aren't enough entries for that particular division. Each scrimmage will be a double elimination; best 2 out of 3. The 3 battles will be consecutive, meaning you will NOT be allowed to return to the guild hall to reset skills or attributes between battles. A win is defined as a successful kill on your opponent.
Each battle will officially begin as soon as the starting counter reaches zero. At that time, both parties will engage combat. Take into consideration the advantages and disadvantages of NPCs, traps and other features of the Isle of Meditation Guild Hall when positioning for battle. Flag Stands and Guild Thieves will not be used, but be aware that opposing NPCs will attack if you enter their range.
A 12-minute time limit will be in effect for each battle, preventing Runners and Stalemates. In the event that the time limit is reached with no winner, 1 of 2 things will happen:
1) The winner will be chosen by the judge(s) based on gameplay and skill. For example, if one player simply ran away during the entire battle, that will count against them in the judging.
2) Players will return to the guild hall and replay that battle at the discretion of the judge(s). A battle that reaches the time limit in this instance will count as a forfeit on both sides.
The winner of each leg of the division will go on to battle the winner of another winner in the same leg until there is a Division Champion for each profession. The final tournament will consist of the 8 separate profession champions in their division, paired randomly. The final tournament will be a best 3 out of 5 with breaks allowed between each battle, meaning this is the ONLY battle where you will be allowed to return to the guild hall after each battle to adjust skills or attribute points. You will not, however, be able to leave the hall to purchase skills.
In the event that one player has multiple characters who end up being up against each other in the final rounds, you will need to pick one character to advance to the next round, forfeiting the other character.
A judge will be present in each battle, either 1 on each side, or just 1 on a randomly-chosen side. Using any skill or spell on or against a judge in the game is not allowed. This includes any attempts to shadow step to the judges location. Doing so will result in:
1st Offense: Warning by the judge
2nd Offense: Disqualification
2v2 Rules
The 2v2 will be basically the same format at the 1v1, with 16 pairs fighting for the number 1 spot, but there will be no divisions in this, only one straight tournament. Each team can defeat their opponent by 1 of 3 possible ways:
1) The losing team gets 4 deaths on each player at separate times.
2) Both party members of the same team are dead at the same time.
3) A 12-minute time limit is reached, and the team with the most deaths at that time loses.
Each battle will officially begin as soon as the starting counter reaches zero. At that time, both parties will engage combat. Take into consideration the advantages and disadvantages of NPCs, traps and other features of the Isle of Meditation Guild Hall when positioning for battle. Flag Stands and Guild Thieves will not be used, but be aware that other NPCs will attack if you enter their range.
Any class is welcome to pair with any other class and it would be to the player's advantage to find a partner before signing up. Otherwise, players with no partner will be paired up randomly with other players with no partner, if available.
Prizes
Division Prize: 10K
Grand Champion Prize: 50K plus your choice of any 4 items from the prize page
2v2 Champion: 50K to split evenly
It is possible for 1 player to win a maximum of 155K in this tournament!
Scrimmage Tournament Application
To enter the competition, simply copy and paste this small form below, filling in the blanks where necessary and email it to [email protected]. Be sure to include the names of every character you want to enter and the times that are best for you to play. This best playing time will determine who you're paired up against in the first round(s). You can enter 1 name per profession, plus only 1 name (and a partner) in the 2v2 division.
Partners can be changed at any time BEFORE the tournament choices are locked down. Your partner does not need to send in a separate application, as long as they're only entering the 2v2.
The deadline to get your application in is June 30th, 2006 with the beginning rounds of the tournament starting soon after.

Kinda funny, a guildmate and i had thought of running a similar thing.
But just a suggestion, you may want to ban certain skills/builds. For example a touch ranger, quite overpowered, and a 55 monk, without being setup to counter them, it isnt going to happen

My guild held a 1v1 tournament a month or so back. Very chaotic being a judge in one. We had 200+ people sign up, only let in 64 and it still took 2 full days to complete. Good luck though

hmm, the rules arnt that clear..
what do you mean by X Contestant ?.. or scrimmage battle for each proffesion?
Does this mean a pure proffesion, or can you take a secondary proffesion?
How will these matches be adjudicated?.. you have a ref on each team who sits back and does nothing? or just one ref?..
how will error 7's be handled?
I dont understand the consectuve wins run "with no returning to the guild hall"... Ive done many 1vs1, as soon as one person is dead its pretty much game over for him!.. the 15% dp is a killer, and while awaiting res the winning person can gain the moral boost easy AND take out aload of henchies.
In any case, when there are GvG tournys which is 2 out of 3, part of the fun is to go back and re-jig your skills and things.. you should definatly re-set the match after one person gets a kill.
anyway, it will still be interesting! but this does make one thing plain... ANET OPEN THE GLADIATOR ARENA! xD

Just one point about having a third person present to referee.. this can cause a problem with assasins shadow stepping skills! if you only had one ref.. the person with you 'in his team' as it were, will be at an advantage as they can shadow step to your location.. alternativly the person who doesnt have you can use you to death charge to, or use you to build adrenaline with.. they may even try to kill you to use your corpse.. will you implement any rules regarding this?
Thanks for your detailed reply's, I will be interested in seeing how this all turns out

methinks rule should be "if you lay a hand on a ref or shadow step to him/her you shall be disqualified" also all builds can be blocked, touch rangers crip em or slow or degen em, also there shouldnt be any running away back to yer NPC's my frineds always do that to me in 1v1s X.X too scared of burning to death, also do you mind if we just post our application here? I mainly ask this because I hate singing up for new forums.
