How useful would that be?
Because my friends window has a lot of people on and sometimes I don't even know who those people are! Sometimes is somebody I have met, other times is somebody that I need to trade something with, some other times is somebody that lives nearby and pvp's a lot.. You know..
So I think Arena Net should include an option to insert Categories like:
(follow me as I do the steps! :P )
*pushes the buttom "Create New Category" in the Friends Window
*new category appers on friends window
*name new tab as "Buyers"
*drag a dude named "I luv to buy" to "Buyers" category
And so on...
That would be much better and organized! So please Arena Net, do something like this! =)

I like it! I can't even count the number of times I open my friends list and can't remember who these people are. Sure I recognize someof the names, but occasionally there's a name on there of someone I sold something to a month ago and forgot to delete. Of course there's always the greatest buddy list ever, in game just press "G".

Where I can post *NOTES* next to thier name. So I can remember who they are and what class they are, and if they are Male or Female(Real Life).
Until this day I will use a note pad and a pen. I'll write down thier names with good old reliable Pen & Paper.

Yeah, the ability to categorize or add notes to names.
Some I've added because they are the best monks ever (well, about 80% of my friends list are monks ha ha), and others from good parties or whatever. But I can't remember who's who, or which mission we worked on, and I've had to delete to make room for new buddies.

Ok what I really want as a minimal upgrade to the friends window is the class and lvl of the PC.
Nothing more irritating than needing to fill one more spot on a team and having all kinds of friends on that you don't remember class or lvl, or they are playing alts whom you haven't played with.
Please, please, please add friends and guildy class and lvl next to names in the guild and friends list.

Categories would be a good thing, but the notes alone would make me buy the expansion as I tend to forget quite fast.

Especially for me it would be very useful to name catagories. Because I normally make teams for the Tomb of Primeval Kings. And then i have to ask each time: Are you a warrior, whatever.
When we get new catagories in chapter 2 I could make a catagorie like Tombs - Warrior, Tombs - Monk, Tombs - Taint

I like the idea to add categories but also just be able to have a detailed description assigned to each person. A comment you can add to their name for quick refence and be able to see if you want where they are in the game world, what class they're playing at the moment, and a more detailed comment that you can assign to them then the quick note you can view in the menu.

My improvements may be "Big Brother"-ish, but there have been times when ppl are "selling" accounts, or another time, well nm on that one, and i was tempted to send an email about a scam, but it's too much bother...
I first thought of perhaps another tab on the chat to send a chat to some moderator, but then thought that that would have too many ppl clicking on it by mistake or to purposefully bother the moderators.
How about another listing in the "N" window -- it now has friends and ignore -- how about a "request to ban?" It would automate the process of checking exactly where you are and what the dialog was... I almost feel ashamed of asking for a Bigger Brother, but in that one dialog that I won't get into I was glad that it was me instead of some kid.
Categories would be a bonus, as well as a comments line so u could add personalized text next to each name.

Friends list needs something. It needs to be bigger and organized.
Sequence of events:
1) Fill up friends list
2) Don't know who they are
3) Join different alliance
4) Delete all friends from list to make room for alliance friends since they dont have a separate list.
5) Fill up friends list again
6) Make new friends but have no room on friends list.
7) Start deleting inactive alliance members for new friends
8) Repeat steps 1 - 8.
