character class would really be just up to what you want to use. All character classes shine in their own ways.

I'd say start with a ranger. They are pretty fun to play with, you should really get into the game before playing as a monk.

I agree with sn0w on the monk part. As for starting with a ranger thats totally up to you. I did and ya they're pretty fun.

necro/monk is a good starting char as they can be offensive and defensive

best to start by do PVE first then moving onto PVP when you have a good understanding of the skills involved ect

monks are harder because they are the most in demand char in the game and ppl expect monks to heal/rez/prot at the same time

Start out with PvE first, in order to learn the game, skills, professions etc. After completing that, you can move into PvP, however there is still huge amounts to learn from forums, random arenas, etc. There are players who play restrictively pve or pvp, some that play both... up to preference.

Monk is somewhat harder because groups rely on you heavily, if you can't keep people up effectively it's more noticeable than if you can't nuke effectively or whatever (in that people start dying, and whining about the monk).

I'd avoid the assasin class at first, too. There's lots of people out there who've gotten a lot of experience playing GW with other characters in Prophecies but are having a hard time getting the knack of playing the Assassin role. (Although that's not true for every assasin)

I think ranger is a really good 1st profession, the learning curve isn't steep & it's lots of fun to play.

Yeah, get more RAM and better graphics card if possible.

PvE is good fun, and in Factions PvE and PvP works hand in hand.

If your going to PvP, I suggest keeping to the Random Arena for now. Till you get use to the game.

A monk is not hard, it's just boring and you see nothing but red bars the whole time.

If you looking for cheap and ok preformance. Then go for:

At least 1GB RAM

And Don't get a GeForce 1, they are older then the Queen of England. Get a GeForce 6600GT or even the cheaper 6600 card. Both are really cheap and give ok peformance.

Oh and CS: Source sucks

ah then I'd recommend the following sites:

overclockers.co.uk
ebuyer.co.uk
microdirect.co.uk

They are great sites to get cheaper cheaper hardware. £400 should provide you with a lot of good parts.

PVE can be you and computer controlled henchmen vs monsters, or it can be you and a team of other people vs the same same monsters. The choice is yours. Of course, if you really want a challenge, it can be just you vs the monsters also.
