GW(1) = Ghost Wars ?

Ok, I knew people would flock to Cantha when Factions came out (I've done it too)... but are they ever coming back to Tyria? For example, I decided to go to Tyria with my Canthan-born monk in order to get some Prophecies' (quest-given) skills and armor... even as a level 20 ascended/closer to the stars monk, I can barely ever find groups for Tyrian quests.
This doesn't bother me so much for other professions, because it is natural for them to take the lead while the (ignorant/borderline mentally retarded) henchmen follow along, but the monk's very nature is to hang back a bit... ya know, let the tank(s) hold aggro and call targets and such... but with henchmen, u have to lead them into the target, attack so that they will focus on one target at a time (even if u have empathy on u, which u would never do normally as a monk), and heal yourself and the bone-headed henchmen all at the same time. And have henchmen ever heard of the concept of interruption?
Is this how it's always going to be now in Tyria.... and in future "not current" continents/chapters?

When I monk/hench I switch to smite and drop a caster.

They are slowly trickling back. My guild spends 75% of it's time in prophecies now when playing PVE. The alliance we're in has completely stopped farming faction. I've decided that I'm not going back to Cantha unless needed or until I'm done getting all of my titles on the Prophecies side.

I call every target I attack with hench because otherwise they seem very disorganized and not very productive in Cantha. What bothers me is that you can only bring one healer hench in Cantha and end up battling groups you could really use two monks with. I don't count Spirit Hench as a healer hench.
Well I personally have my factions characters over in Tyria and my Tyria characters kinda spread out all over. I have noticed a drop in population in Tyria but have I seen people trickling back? Not really but that is fine by me. Less is peaceful

also as Markaedw said, i also switch from heal to smite when i take henchies, henchies have a decent heal output, but the seriously lack the firepower to take down some enemies.

Henchies can be very good if used correctly. I usually use henchies for everything except for missions.
DeanBB
I too normally switch to smite if running with just henchies and my monk. Better yet I run with a guildie team.

It is normal for the people to look in factions now, say after 5-6 months things will balance out. (people that liked factions will buy profecies and so on). With the upcomming chapters thigs may turn around a bit, but will also balance. Maybe they will implent some day the "mission/quest party search :P"

My guild plays a lot in ch1 because there are a lot of players and characters who still havent finished ch1 let alone ch2. i think i'm the furthest along in ch2, and i've just finished getting the Kurzick vase and the Luxon spear.
I still see quite a few players in Tyria when I'm there, but there are fewer districts for all cities, even places like Droknars or Lions Arch. But it largely depends on what time of day you're there, too -- are you outside the US, or do you play at odd hours? That might be part of it.
I jump back and forth depending on what i feel like doing today...
I spent a lot of time in Tyria even when ch2 just came out because I was helping a friend complete ch1 that weekend (him and I henched all the Southern Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire missions... 2 pc + 6 hench, woo!), and after that I was skill cappin' like a mofo for all the ch1 elites (Skill Hunter (1) complete... now to collect the ch2 elites...)

Go to one of the quieter outposts and see if you are alone, that is a weird feeling....
I spend time in Cantha when I want to get things done to make progress in the game, and I go to Prophecies to farm, FoW, and UW.

As for population, it's understandably more scarce across the board in Tyria at the moment, but it isn't too bad most of the time... I guess I was mainly thinking of Beetletun -- never used to have much trouble finding a group for Undead Hordes, but now there are perhaps half a dozen (a dozen at best) nonresponsive people sitting there most of the time, and these 3 monks that stand on top of eachother (anyone else noticed them, or am I seeing things? ).
I guess I just find it very frustrating "henching it" when playing as a monk -- I hench many quests when on my ranger or other char's. As AW Lore said, henchies aren't bad at healing, they're just not cut out for leading the way lol.. I'll try out that Ctrl+Shift+Space thing.

You couldn't find groups for Quests BEFORE Factions.
Noone groups for quests.

I loathe to go back to anywhere in tyria.. it's kind of sad, but going back there from canth, is like having moved on and up in the world and then taking a stroll through the old trailer park.
Ineffiable
People are farming greens in Tyria though, for all that new totem axe and everything.

Almost my entire guild has returned to Tyria. We've all gotten the majority of characters the masters on all Canthan missions so we've returned to Tyria to get the Protector title on the newly made Canthan characters. This entire past two weeks has been spent in Tyria, and while it's much easier then we remember it; we've been having some really good laughs and fun re-doing the missions.
Tyria will probably become, as you said, Ghost Wars with the release of more chapters. This really can't be helped though (too much anyway) unless new content is constantly added backwards. I've played many online games (MMOs) and this always happens. New expansions comes out and people move to the new stuff while it's new. Most don't want to play the "new" stuff when it's 3 months old... it's not "new" at that point so they don't care as much. /hint at Anet for opening Elite Missions /end hint
