Why The Kraken?

Factions is a chinese themed game. But why did ANet add krakens in it in Boreas Seabed? Krakens are norse mythology, no way connected to China. Seems pretty weird to me....Maybe chapter 3 is gonna have centaurs in it

Factions is stated to be 'oriental themed'. However making that statement does not declare that all things have to follow the 'theme', since that was just a way to describe a rough outline of part of the game.
Only the Kaineng area is oriental themed, the subsequent areas are german/whatever somewhat.

Jade sea is oriental themed though. Its originally oriental based, but they can had some things from other theme. Its name,Zhu Hanuku, means "Old Long Arms" in ancien tougue. This can tell you why they have chosen a Kraken.

I was definatly hoping for a more nordic or maybe ancient greek or roman-ish style chapter, as opposed to this africa stuff.

Sea monsters are a pretty universal myth. If there's water nearby you'll get stories about the things in it.

Anyways, it's the sea, so big squiddies are a must have... and big squiddies are part of many, many cultures, including western (remember pics of big tudor ships getting smothered in tentacles?) and instead of calling them "Big Squiddo" or "Giant Squid" it's much more fantast..ic(?) to have them called "Krakens". voila

Ritualists are really look like egyptian while you well set (More with female hair) with the body, skin color and armor. But Ritualist can be considered as Shaman to communicate with spirits..... which its relative to the Nanman how they look), south of China before the 3 Kingdoms.
