Okay, I have Faction but not Prophecies, however I want to buy Prophecies for the skills and experience. Can i buy a pre-owned game and somehow delete the accounts and combine the 2 games. Or do I have to make sure the activation code is a new one and then combine. Thanks all, and if i mess up combining can i go back ? Or is it game over and I would have to buy a new one. Thanks.

I'd say buy a new one, to be sure, you never know what can happen

No. You'd have two separate accounts then if you mess up. So simply make sure you are combining them when entering the key.

The only way you can ever combine factions and prophecies is if you do so from the start. You have to take a brand new access code (for either of the 2 games) and add it to your current account (for either of the games). So you can add prophecies to factions if you buy prophecies. However, you can never combine 2 seperate accounts if you have created them seperately.

Actually, you can, but it's hard work. You have to contact ANet and tell them about the mistake you made and if you're lucky and the support person likes you he/she will help you combine the 2 accounts. But this method should only be used in case you genuinely made a mistake and created a second account for that campaign. I know this because a friend of mine had that happen to him, and he never lies so ...
Think what you may, but IMO if you buy a second campaign there's only one reason not to add it to the one you already own: Favor.

NOT QUITE SO.

this only applied to keys purchased directly fron PLAYNC online when they had the confusing directions.

it does not and never has applied to retail accounts from any other source.

the solution they worked out was to PERMALOCK the new account and issue a one time replacement key

when you buy Guild Wars (not special edition) your paying for a manual and an access key, your not really paying for the client. If you ever want an addition factions or prophecies key just buy the Key from PlayNC instead of wasting more cash on buying the actual box.

They are the same price right? So do you end up wasting more cash if you actually get the discs, manual, and box?

The friend I was talking about got Factions as a birthday present, so I would assume it came in a box. If what you say is true, that makes my friend a liar. I have a hard time believing that.

Just so we're clear, I'm not saying you should take my post as a guarantee if you screw up and end up with 2 accounts, thinking that if this happens you can always talk to ANet and they will sort it out. That might NOT happen. Maybe my friend got lucky (it was his b-day after all ), I dunno...

IMO its more of a waste to get the collecters edition than the standard if you just want to play the game.......of course unless you want the freebies..........

Oh, I was not talking about CE GW. I was talking about the standard GW. I believe it is 49.99 in the online store.

I bought Factions from Best Buy when I mistakenly created a separate account rather than adding it to Prophecies. I contacted Anet and they issued me a new key in a couple days. This was in June.

While Anet might correct this for you on a new account, once you've played an account or acquired an existing account they will not merge them for you in any way.

Don't buy a used account if you wish to merge them.
