Is it possible to remove yourself off another person's friends list?

I have a friend who has played GW since launch. He played hours on end but had to temporarily leave GW because he was studying a college certificate for 6 months. He did not play GW at all during these 6 months. Now, he recently finished his certificate and has just started playing GW after all that hard study.

Now here is the problem: My friend has A LOT of people in his 'Friends' list and he no longer remembers who any of them are. When he logs in, people on his friends list start saying "Oh hi there! I have not seen you in ages" and the like. He has recieved many messages like this and wishes to reset his account, simply because he has not logged in for such a long time and no longer remembers who anybody is. I think that just because you remove somebody from your friends list does not mean that you become cleared off *their* Friends list (or am I wrong?). The only way to solve this problem is to "reset" his account to make it new. He said that he does not care if he loses all of his gold, items or his un-locked skills, he just wants to reset it.

Is this possible? Can you "reset" your account (making it like its brand new), or remove yourself off another person's Friends list? If the answer is No, then my friend will have to buy GW again, which is a waste of money

No you can't and your friend can put all of them on ignore so he won't be bothered by all those ppl.

Tell your 'friend' to start talking in 1337 speak only and asking the unknown third parties for money on the half hour, two times an hour until they finally stop talking to him. Chances are, by this point, he will have 'removed his self from their friends list'

OMG, how hard is it to say "I dont remember you" or not to reply to these people at all if it bothers him so much? If it is too hard to even do that, then why did he call him "friends"? He should be honored those people still remember HIM after all this time and that they still want to be friends with him! But since he is bothered with it all, there's always IGNORE.

LoL indeed, I don't get the real problem. One of my best GW buddies also came back online a few days ago...he was gone for 6 months and after I told my name he knew exactly who I was again

Guild Wars GMs can reset accounts like you're talking about, but you can't do it yourself, no. If you really want to be off of their friend list, follow shadowfell's advice.

I don't think I have ever met a GM in Guild wars before. My friend seems interested more in resetting his account, if this is what he wants, how can he contact a GM? I will email him with the information.

I'll try to talk him into NOT resetting his account, because he does have some skills that have been unlocked, along with a bit of gold etc. If he resets it, he will have to re-unlock everything all over again, which is just a silly waste of time in my opinion. but it is his decision, not mine. If it cannot be helped then it would be best to simply buy a new copy of GW.

I doubt that Anet would do such a thing as a reset since it would mostly benefit scammers and griefers, allowing them a fresh start with a new identity. That is why your original toon remains the identity for the account even if you delete all toons and start over.

Anet would be happy to sell you a brand new shiny account though!

When you add someone to your friends list say as Character 1 then that person logs on as Character 2 does it show them as logged on as a different character name? If not then couldn't they just delete there characters and create new one. If so, then this will not help a bit

I had no idea about the fact that your original toon is the identity of your account. I think my first ever character was called "Diablo the Shark" or something very like that. I deleted him within 2 minutes because I figured the name sounded terrible.

I myself might consider a new account, since there have been times when I myself have done a lot of n00bish things, and ruined my reputation. I won't lie to you. I think there are at least 5-10 people who have me on their ignore list. I might consider a new account and start off as somebody who has supposedly never played GW before, and make sure I have a good reputation, as well as make sure I am not on anybody's ignore list. I honestly love my name "Desert Penguin" and don't want to give it up, but I guess I will have to abandon it some day due to the fact I degraded myself under this name

I think I might as well purchase the GW Collectors Edition. I do not know what are the benefits besides the cool emotes, but ArenaNet surely deserves the extra money

You want to reset your accounts because you have not played in awhile and forgot all these folks that seem to remember you OR because you did a couple of lame things once and maybe 5 people are IGNORING YOU?

Why don't you two just trade accounts and you will suddenly have friends and he will be ignored by those you offended in the past.

Take the advice about politely replying that you have not been on in awhile and be a socially responsible human being instead of begging for a reset.

If you really want to be left alone, use the DO NOT DISTURB setting.

Yeah, 5-10 people out of 2 million-ish isn't much to worry about. There is very little fame or individual recognition in this game in any kind of a global sense so I wouldn't waste the time and effort to start over with a new account.

I think a more important "recognition" to shoot for is being a known member within a guild community and all that entails - helping guildies, being a good team mate, participating in guild events, hanging out, etc. Whether it is a guild of 10 or 100 it will be more meaningful than some random people adding you to either their friend or ignore lists.

Actually I think for the friends and guild lists it shows the name you initially added to the list rather than the account name, but I could be wrong. I know that I started our guild with "Ashlock Hammerhand" and later deleted that toon and that remains to this day as the name that shows for all guild invites, etc. I did later create a new Ashlock so as to avoid any confusion in the guild.

I see a name both on guild and friend lists of a toon that doesn't exist and it was the first for the account for that person but again it could be the name added rather than the "account name."

If i was ur friend, playing GW when a "friend" wispers to me...
