There are people paying big bucks for these and I have friends who dont play anymore and gave me there accounts.
Is this frowned upon?

Buying an account is a bad idea. The original owner can reclaim it at any time. Many accounts being sold in game have already been stolen and will be shortly banned or reclaimed. Those not stolen are often used to scam someone. Let them gain some items gold, take the account back, and instant riches.
