Cause I am struggling. Besides Avarre's solo U/W build, is there some other secret I am not aware of to obtain wealth as a mesmer? Any tips, hints, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Trading. Showing a bit of Leg in Fow armor does wonders

In all seriousness this is the way I got started. Pick up everything, ID and salvage and sell the mats, upgrades and items. Don't be afraid to Merch items that you wont sell, they're doing you no good cluttering up your storage.

Use the money you buy from mats to fund your purchases and get to know the market prices off by heart. Knowing whats a bargain and whats a rip off is crucial. Spend hours in LA and KC just watching the WTB and WTS and learn the trends.

Dont try for maximum price, got for 5-10% under(margin depending) better to sell in 5 mins than 5 hours.

Never carry more than 2k on your person, everything over that 2K put into storage.

Making money is not hard, it's just a matter of research and common sense. Doing the above has served me quite well.

If all else fails tho, show a leg..

I'm starting a project..a financially independent ( sp? ) mesmer. When he hits Kaineng, I'm going to make a topic and gather up tips for beginners on how you would make a pve character as good as possible ( for pvp ) without money from other characters ( basically collectorize everything )

First I'm doing all quests in the noob island so I'm leveled and a bit "richer"

Well certain classes can farm very effeciently, like monks, necros, and warriors for example. I have heard rumor of people making like 20k an hour, which is really awe inspiring to me since I can only net about 5-7k solo hydra farming for an hour outside of Augury Rock, and that includes salvaging the claws for scales. Heck, 10k an hour would be great.

I don't have a lot of hours to dedicate to GW, and I'll admit, I can afford everything that I "need," but there is just some other stuff that I would like to have.

Little things that save you money in the long run? I recently got run from Yak's to Drok's and crafted a full set of armor. That cost me around 10k, but compared to how much I would spend crafting armor normally as I progress through the campaign, I will save around 4-5k. It's little stuff like that which keeps me fat and happy.

Trading is the fastest money maker in the game, aside from e-bay which is a big no-no. One of the trick to trading is to not stay in one spot. I spam my message one or two times in each district of Lions Arch, then hope over to Droknars, Keineng, Ascalon, War Camp, TOA, Market Place, & and hit all those districts as well. You get your advertisment out to more people this way, and often to different types of players depending on where you go.

I'll give you an example: So you have a decent staff with +15 energy, but it has mixed attributes, or you have a +5 energy staff head? First place you might want to look for a buyer is in the Temple of Age. TOA has lots of trappers and soon-to-be trappers that need a +15 energy staff to be successful.

Craft rare materials and trade them in bulk in the towns that have 15k armor that requires that rare material. Example: craft Vellum, and trade it in Granite Citadel for monks buying 15k tats.

Chest runs are also fun and fairly easy to do depending on the area your in. You could change your secondary to ranger or warrior and get some running skills and hunt for gold chests.

Edit: Just thought of an idea that I haven't done in a while, but your Hydra farming comment brought it to mind. Got Hydra claws? Dont salvage them, or any other crafting material that can be traded to a desert collector for max items. Take those max items and sell them to people starting out in Lions Arch for 1-3k profit. Its worked for me.

Who said you need to craft new armour? My presearing armour worked fine for through the whole game ( as a caster ) ( even ranger )

I took a bloodspike build through the dersert and killed everything a few times...then did it again with a degen build with slows (Eaimirth using degen in pve...take print screens now...)

Then I made a character named "Fisher of Woe" and her purpose was to farm to get my mesmer "Fissure of Woe" armor...
Then pro bond was nerfed
Then some other stuff was nerfed
Then both of my denravis were "technically nerfed"

Net loss-600-700k...
Net gain-1 pair of fow armor

Basically do not make high doller investments in "one of a kind gear" or it will get nerfed due to whining of people who don't have one. That and determination are key.

You can always farm hydras as a 55hp mesmer. Since you will be knockdown you have to be carefull with timing but you can take a pack of 6 easily.

A warrior can tank 8 hydras and kill them easily. I suppose having the warrior means I've never considered Mesmer farming

The problem I have is I have one of each class, unless its my Monk or Warrior I don't farm. I kinda of wish I had one class that I played solidly.

You don't need to go to the UW to farm. Use the 55 Mesmer to farm Hydras or Griffons. They're significantly easier, plus they don't carry the 1k price tag the UW does.

I basically do everything that Avarre does. I solo UW and 2 man it with a SS(I hardly do 2 man as no one in my guild likes to do solo or dual farms they like to do stuff as a team) Troll farming and Minatour farming also works wonders. Remember your going to have to pay money to make money

Also when alliance or guild members ask for help, dont hesitate to say yes. Im pretty selfish and am stuborn when it comes to helping but you get a ton of money that way, my leader only helps people anymore and he joined the million gold club quite a while ago. Mesmers are a big help in groups, especially with Ineptitude+clumsiness because they are quick damage. Helping people and just joining any reliable group will get you money, doesnt need to be solo.

Shanaeri Rynale is also right in the fact that you should sit in big trading places to look for good deals where you know you can buy cheap and sell big. I normally do this in Droks however, I buy materials cheap (only if someone has put out WTS and their price i dont sit around saying "WTB wood 5 gold each!") Buying and selling is a big money maker once you can get real good at it, thats how one of the richer people in this forum got so rich :P I wont use names though.

BTW: Showing skin doesnt get you money!

Tried dancing and flesh-show but... i don't get much...
My male Mesmer is frustrating : the audience is missing

I'll try begging...

More seriously, helping is a huge source of income. Moreover, popularity is a guaranteed side effect, so you sheldom need to buy decent staves, wands and focii.

I make my money by questing around and helping others.

I don't consider myself a farmer, so I don't farm anything.

Just pickup stuff along the way, salvage the weak stuff and keep the rest for selling.

I went from 190k to 30k from buying skills for 3 characters. Then I went backup to 150k, and bought more skills for 2 characters, and as a result went back down to 30k. Now I'm at 90k (all this in a span of 7 months - from 0k to my current 90k). As I said, I don't farm, so I don't get those 5k per 30 minutes or whatever some people can get.

I can salvage things until I get 250 of a material. Then sell the whole thing for some nice money. Too bad merchants only buy by 10 per item.

I've made most of my money by selling Tan Hides, Cloth, and scrolls. I make okay money from magic items too.

You know...mesmer may become the new ss with famine...
SV+Famine+phantom pain+shatter delusions+epidemic...Just off the top of my head though.
I mean they wouldn't have to worry about hex removal; and deep wound is nice...

Yeah, sv+famine... my allliance tempted me with that the other day : great fun ! Coupled with Mindwrack.

Btw : Conjured Phantasm + IoR + Accumulated pain is more pressure than PP+ShatterDelusions, no ? (More expensive too )
