Factions = SKIMPY face / hair / color customization options?

Anyone else think Factions has SKIMPY character face / hair / color customization options compared to Prophecies? Prophecies average about 12 or more faces for each profession, while Factions only average about 8. Plus the 2 new professions don't have a Prophecies version of character faces, etc.--and few of the given ones look that good. Certainly some of us care about customizing unique character appearance than others, and I'm one of those players that care A LOT. Anyone else think Anet owes us Factions customers more character face / hair / color options??

BTW: Ideally we should be able to mix and match character face / hair / color between Prophecies and Factions, if we have both games, to allow greater possibilities in character appearances. Why limit them in the current manner when Guild Wars is all about mix-match customized gameplay?? Give us our $50 worth for this overpriced expansion...

I agree, with you, more options would be very nice, and also the ability to cross tyrian and canthan hairs, etc. I too like to make a 'unique character'

P.S. Don't you mean limited instead of skimpy?

For the $50 I paid for what I now feel should be a $30 expansion purchase, yes I do mean "SKIMPY".

I'm not normally one to complain about appearance-related matters, but I tend to agree wtih Tsunami. In creating my female ritualist, there were 7 face choices (from what I recall), and four of the seven were asian in appearance.

That left three non-asian looks to choose from. That's not a wide enough selection to add to the diversity of characters in the game, at least appearance-wise, IMO.

Not to mention that my Rit and my Mesmer have the same hair, and could have had the same face as my Assassin (if I had chosen to keep her).

/agreed. And I don't want to hear any excuses about how they are doing great since they are tossing out new chapters every 6 months. Its supposed to be a game as good (at least) as the original. Backsliding on quality is not allowed if you plan to charge the same price.

Have you paid much attention to assassins? 90% look EXACTLY THE SAME because each gender only has one decent hair style and face. And I still think the armor for them is the worst of any of the classes. I'd rather be running around in mesmer armor, even if that includes the fallice mask. That has to say something.

during the factions preview event in january, i thought the skimpy appearance selections were just because it was preview. if i knew this skimpy selection was ALL thats going to be in the shipping title, i would have complained for them to add more sooner...

It's not even just a matter of the faces, in some cases it's the matter of the entire character appearance.

I know that the majority of GW players are males, so of course the female characters would all be attractive. Then, too, most girls want to play an attractive female character.

But what about girls who want to play a male character? I can't make an attractive male character at all! The hairstyles are all ridiculous, the faces are all old or ugly, and the way Eles and Mesmers run...oi. How can anybody stand to stare at that all game?

And I have to admit, I am a fan of long hair on men. But it's nigh IMPOSSIBLE to create an attractive, long-haired male character. The only possibility I've found for a youthful/handsome face, nice hair, and decent build was a male ranger, and you can only have so many of those.

i kinda know what you mean, i wanted to make a ranger, but tryian ones have much more variety, and heck i think they look more like rangers. Then i quit that character relizing i didn't want to replay all those missions for liek the 20th time again >_< so yeah that kinda sucks, the one time i tried to make a character look like me i can't ever usually, i mean i have pretty long hair and i'm a male and heck, i don't want a bald monk :'(

Even if you could pick and choose from ALL the faces and ALL the hairstyles across professions it'd help, at least then you'd have a decent pool of faces to match hairstyles. As it is, with the number of GW players and the number of face/hair combinations per profession, there's a pretty good chance of running into at least three other people who look just like your character.

I would think that adding all the hairstyles, all the faces, and all the hair/skin colorings into one single interface page instead of having one for each profession would be handy too. I mean, I'm not a game developer so I don't do complex code, but wouldn't a single command to call up all hairstyles on one interface page be easier than calling up particular ones for eight different pages?

Then, too, it might be easier to submit a new hairstyle into the pool at a later date. Like those actual Ranger-esque long-haired styles.

I'm still wondering why the Necromancers get like twice the possible hair colors as everyone else...

But to be honest, each profession only has a few good faces and hairstyles, but it's not a Factions problem. Prophecies was the same way.

Each profession needs to have the hair color black.. I don't get it. Black is quite possibly the MOST COMMON hair color in the world. So why can't I have an assassin with black hair!?

Heh, you changed the name of te person who you quoted that from on accident. It's kind of funny how quoting works on this site, 'cause you can do stuff like this-

I Think they should definately allow the same character to use face and hair options from any chapter. It's rediculous that you can't right now.

That is a very good point, and one I'm embarassed to not have thought of myself. >.< But then, too, why are all the male Warriors Beefy McBeef when the female ones look like they can barely hold up their platemail armor? o_O I'm fairly certain the majority of historical soldiers, which is the base of the Warrior class, were average size rather than the size of school buses.

Unless it's all part of the fantasy for people playing Warriors. "Me big. Me strong. Me wield a hammer the SIZE OF A VOLKSWAGON. Grunt."

Yes, that got me too. How can you have Asian-featured characters, period, who don't have black as a hair option, but have platinum blonde?

Seriously they should let us choose from a wider selection.

Alot, and I mean alot of the hair is shared between professions, even some of the faces are shared. So not only do alot of the same professions look similar, but characters across classes look similar.

If you're worried about looking like a tyrian/western in cantha - just say you moved from ascalon as a refugee to cantha

Order of the Migrating Coconuts [ALBA]

silyrinth, I created a Smiter in Tyria waaaaay back who happened to be male. His back story was Celtic in origins (he was a Cursing Smiter :P) and there was one hairstyle that was vaguely Celtic looking. Now, unfortunately, he retired early (with only 4 slots, decisions had to be made---but that one was one I've regreted ever since ) but he was th eonly male character I could stand the look of.

As one of those apparently odd females who love playing this type of game (doesn't seem to be very many of us), I wouldn't mind playing a male character who wasn't: 1) a big brute (even the short ones are gorilla-like) 2) a 'pretty boy' (male eles, esp.) 3) foppish (related to the pretty boy syndrome, male mesmer) OR 4) a diseased, annorexic punk who can't stand straight!

Compared to the males, the female stereotypes are harmless and cute! Except for the hunched-over run of the 'sin. Weird.

As for Canthan face/hair designs not being more "Western", well, you are in an Oriental-themed game environment.

Personally, I found a really nice hair/face combination in each of the professions (for females since that's what I play) with at least one alternative I had to choose between. It's the long stiff ponytails I object to---makes me want to reach, grab that wonky hair and deal serious damage to the character! Wonder why the foe never thinks about doing that?!?

i think it would be a good move for anet to release more character appearance options when the release the option to buy addtional character slots this summer...

i know it's an older thread, but ....

i would like it if we could either pool all faces together & be able to pick any face from any campaign & profession... or ...like DDO you can pick from several eyes, noses, mouths, ears, cheek, chin, eyebrows, & even piercings (nose, lip, eyebrow, ears, etc..).

that'd be awesome. i don't like the rit or assassin faces & i'm not too interested in many of the NF hair & faces either.

Forget about that I say: ANET won't add any new styles to Factions.
