i just got yahoo dsl, and i am really getting bad slowdowns. Sometimes with IExplorer, i will x windows out and they will just sit there blank for between 10seconds to when i shut my computer down and its really annoying. some dont even appear on the menu bar and just sit in the background. Also, my GW is kind of laggy. Actually it is the least buggy of all my copmuter software. My computer if 1gb of ram (2x reccomended for gw) with a new radeo xtacy graphics cars, and a new athalon 64 proccesor. ca someone tell me or help me with my slowdown problems. It would help if you had the same yahoo dsl. I also have checked for viruses and spiware so i dont think its that. if anyone can help me please post!!!

some more problems
alright im having a some more problem. I have Yahoo dsl, and i have 2 connections via an actuall wire, through a d-link router. About every 3-5 hours, my wired connection gives out and my network software says that connection is lost. I dont know why it does this. I have to unplug my router, then plug it back in and after a few seconds it connects again. It doesnt take to long, but its annoying. Does anyone else have this problem. What should i do?

I have never used Yahoo DSL. If it is like AOL, your internet service is probably not strong enough to have a network. Which would esplain why when you try to X out of explorer it has to wait. Also it would explain why you reuter seems to time out. Honestly it could be allot of things most of which would be to hard to help in a forum like this. 1st thing I would do though is make sure the service you have supports Networks and go from there.
Good luck

If you have windows haging when you try and close them then it is NOT your internet connection. You have something wrong software wise. You may not think you have spyware or viruses because you've scanned but you still could. Scanners are not 100% effective.
How many processes do you have running in the background? My sister's comp is all messed up from spyware, but I scan with AVG, spybot, and adaware and get nothing. I know its something because shes got 50+ processes going.
Your best bet is to back everything up and reformat. Then NEVER USE IE AGAIN!!! I hate the stupid browser so much.

I have another problem now. My internet connection is blazing fast, but my dads is really slow. I keep telling my dad its his computer but he wont listen to me. I know its that his computer thats slowing it down. I have a gig of ram, but he only has 256mbs of ram. Am i right, and how much ram should he get to speed his computer up enough?

It would help, but if it's that slow, its probably spyware, or just too many apps running. Remember many things you install will start up when you turn your comp on. So over time you get a good amount of things starting up when you may not even use them anymore. Each only takes up a tiny bit of resources, but get 20 or 30 things together and you will slow way down. If you have enough things in the background that your HD activity is going nuts (due to pagefile usage) then more RAM will help. But they are still going to eat up CPU cycles. Your best bet is clean out every app you and your dad don't use anymore.

ya m dad bought the cheapest and least powerful of computers he could find. Its basically just used for writing word documents and checking his email. he doesnt really use it for anything else. i can try getting rid of some of the excess programs but he never lets me mess around with his computer. If need be we will get more ram. also he isnt on the internet much so idk if it is spyware. thanks

who cares about your dads computer? Is that your Guild War computer?
plus what kind of processor do you have, there maybe a bottleneck.

first of all my family has two main computers: my dads slow work computer and my high speed gaming computer . My dad has threatened to get rid of high speed internet for his original dial up only on his computer. also, i have an athalon 64 processor, and my dad has a basic celeron. and yes, just recently i uninstalled a bunch of unneccisary programs off my dads computer which has sped it up some.
