Taking apart your own equipment
Cirian
Whenever you salvage a piece of your own armour, especially if it is made of three materials + a rune, it would be nice to get some of each material back and possibly the rune.
Say you make something out of 150 tanned hide, 15 silk, 30 amber and a Rune of Superior Vigor. Wouldn't it be nice to get a portion (say 2/3rds) of each material back and the rune? The sum of those materials is worth a small fortune, so it would be great if salvaging your own things was... less painful than it is
The same applies to weapons. You put 2 perfect upgrades on a customised weapon and then later want to delete the character or give the upgrades to another character. It would be good to salvage those upgrades and some of the weapon's materials. In the case of collector weapons (which can't be salvaged), it would be nice to be able to at least salvage the upgrades back.
Another option would be to have a kit that can remove runes and upgrades without damaging the item.

PLEASE. I lost a Superior Vigor while trying to upgrade my Warrior's breastplate from Prophecies to Factions. Anything that will ease situations like that is a good idea.

I guess I agree with this idea, at least make it so we get the rune every time.
Lol, the advantage of being a beastmaster is that I bought my superior rune for 100g.

The basic idea has merit. Getting back masybe 2/3 of the most expensive materials and the rune would be cool. But the flaw in that is how will uit affect the games economy. Each time you salvage something you can get almost anything back. Its kinda a crapshoot, you dont know what you will get if you dont try. I have lost a lot of runes and yes it made me mad. But thats what happenes. I do like the idea of getting the rune and some material back.

I gotta sign this. I have noticed since Factions was released the chances of getting back runes have gone down way too much. I have lost so many runes lately from salvaging armor pieces that it pisses me off. More so when I spent well over 500G for them. Hell losing a 1K+ Minor Vigor is pretty painful. A-Net needs to redo the salavaging system that is in place. I once lost a Minor Vigor and ended up getting 32 Tanned Hides back! The Vigor was worth more than the Hides.

there's a reason why you have to your armor crafted by npcs and only get the worst materials back in most cases for a reason, it takes ingame gold out of the game which helps the game's eco from inflating and devaluing the current value of ingame currency.
as much as I really like this idea , I'm not going to support it since the advantage recycling your armor maybe great but that would mean that you won't buy replacement runes/materials for your new armor.
more gold ingame=problems of almost everything ingame will require more gold/plats to purchase

Its a good gold sink as is by losing materials when you salavage. Also, this would make savaging tricky since you wouldn't be able to salavage an item unless there were several invintory slots free (which could be a hastle).

And to people claiming things like this prevent the economy from inflating, please open your eyes.. I think the economy worsened while you were sleeping. I see no problem with the probablity of materials AND a rune, as the true sink, is the gold it cost to make and dye the item you are now salvaging, not the materials and the rune.

Its a gold sink.. Unless there were new aspects brought to GW such as "Jobs" in which people could specialize in say.. Smithing. To take apart armor and weapons etc etc. I don't see any reason it should happen.

Excellent, MOST excellent, maybe 2/3 of ur money back too lol, cause once my internet was on the fritz and i bought 2 15k platemail helms for no reason, and bad luck made me lose 20/20 sundering AND +30 mod consecutively

It'll never happen though as the uproar from greedy selfish farmers will be deafening as their cash cow mods will be devalued if you only have to buy that +30 HP or 20/20 mod the once and can switch it between weapons as you get better/more likeable ones.
