Progression titles idea.
Sientir
I was thinking about this the other day, and I realized that I would really like "Progression Titles." That is, titles earned for progress on any given character. There are two types that I can think of that I'd like to see added: Profession/Level based and storyline positioning. Something like this:
Profession/Level:
you get a new title every so many levels and would start out with a very simple one. For example, a necromancer might be something like this:
level 1: Learner of the Dark Arts
level 5: Darkness Adept
level 10: Grenth's Apprentice
level 15: Grenth's Acolyte
level 20: Master of the Dead
Of course, I'm sure better titles than those could be thought up. This would also be a sort of automatic title. PvP characters would naturally have this maxxed already. I don't know about other people, but I would seriously like profession based titles, and I think this is one way to do it.
Storyline Progression: (This title series would have to be unique in the way that it functions, I think. Since you may want different "levels" of the title, you should be able to somehow "set" the position. However, you can't have a bunch of seperate titles, as that would cause an issue with cheapening the value of the "Kind of a big deal" title, which is an undesired effect.)
-- POSSIBLE SPOILERS --
Tyrian progression:
Recruit: Just started
Soldier of Ascalon: Entering Post Searing
Ascalonian Champion: Complete Fort Ranik mission
Ascalonian Refugee: Complete Nolani Academy mission
Surviver of the Shiverpeaks: Receive quest award for that quest that takes you to the Gates of Kryta
Knight of the Mantle: Complete D'Alessio Seaboard mission
Ally of the Shining Blade: Complete The Wilds mission
Chosen One: Complete Sanctum Cay mission
Ascendee: Defeat the Doppleganger
Defender of Deldrimmor: Complete Thunderhead Keep mission
Savior of Tyria (OR) Slayer of the Lich: Complete the Hell's Precipice mission
-- END POSSIBLE SPOILERS --
Perhaps by redoing the criteria for one of the titles brings you to that level of completion? Additionally, the above titles are an example only to illistrate the basic idea of a storyline driven title series. Naturally, one for Cantha would be required as well.
Obviously I like this (these) ideas, as I'm posting this thread, but I'm also curious as to what the community thinks.
I know that there is the Protector of titles, but they don't exactly have the same feel to theme that a storyline driven title would.

That seems like it'd be useless. Everyone would have those titles, and itd lose its novelty.

absolutly no point. Its to easy to get and is unfair for the Kind of a Big Deal title. For now I'm happy with what we got.
If you want a title earn it. Thats the whole point of them. Haveing one this easy to get defeats the point of the of titles completely.
As for tyrian progression theres the protecter of tyria title.

wow people are so negative well, sucks for my positiveness I guess.

Sorta useless to make any level based titles, especially since everyone will be level 20 sooner or later.
And what it comes to mission specifics... there's Protector of Tyria for compliting them all with their bonuses, any additional titles for missions would be kind of redunant and pointless.

You could say there is already something like this. Protector of Tyria/Cantha? This will probably cause more confusion. Everyone will have a title then. Use ctrl in a busy outpost. While you go over the people's name, the title will go over other names. Not really handy if you ask me. Overal, it would be nice to have other ways to obtain a Title.

And yes, it's unfairness to the "Kind of a Big Deal" title is a very good point.

For every title you have to at least do something out of the way. These you get them for doing what your supposed to, therefore everyone will have a title.

Well, i see this has generally been matched with negativity.
I can understand the problem that people have with it for the Kind of a Big Deal title, which i did mention briefly if you notice.
Either way, I thought it was a cool idea. And it isn't like a lot of people have the minimum exploration title/rank related title anyway. (Yes I know not EVERYONE does, but a lot DO.)
I just thought that it would be a cool idea for a progression thing. Show where you stand and whatnot. Bleh.
Maybe a primary profession dependent title (or not dependent, but profession related) with having all of the core skills for said title would be better (for the profession one).
And yes, I realize that people start with these titles. And honestly, how are these going to affect PvP all that much? I mean, any serious PvP player wouldn't care squat if you've beaten the PvE campaign or not. In fact, if someone is being all elitist about it, they might know they shouldn't include them in their party.
