Ships

Wouldnt it be cool, if you could just sail around??? I know it would!!! You buy a boat thats yours for 100K. Whereas you fight mobs that attack your ship, like lvl 30 rotscale, or gang of lvl 24 angry sea horses. And you can go explore more things around Tryia and Catha, because heck, why not put all that water to good use, and allow people to use ships to ster and go where they please. Also have ship races, so there are more things to compete in if there not good at PLAYER VS PLAYER, or GUILD VS GUILD. Even better how about ship battles with pirates! Wait, even better PvP ship battles!
Isnt this a great idea!

Ehhh no thanks, lots of people cant afford 100k for a ship, and how exactly would you fight rotscale in a pirate ship? He's in a swamp.. and a group of seahorses? this is a MMORPG, not a turn based game.

Ok so maybe not 100K, was thinking that because that would be giving CLASS to ships, so people think of people can spend there money on. Sea horses coming at you, just randomly move in water or you goto them and they use elemental attacks at you, while you steer your ship towards them, and use your skills on them. Rotscale and Seahorse was just used as a example of mobs in general that you fight.

I think its a cool idea, just that this would take LOADS of time to implement. If released in an update, the update would be massive, which means we would probably have to buy the update on disk. I don't think ANet have the time to do this with the work they're doing on GW3 and 4. Still would be cool though /signed

Reminds me of a horrible sequel. I forget, I think it's the fifth game in a series, or something. Not Ultima V. But I don't wanna spend endless hour fighting batches of WILD SEAWEED!(it was an enemy in the game)

However, I would dare say the engine cant handle such a thing.

That sounds really cool, sailing around, having enemies jump onto your ship and attack. You could even be able to run over to the cannon and use it to fire on other ships or very large see creatures attacking you from the ocean.
You could also buy upgrades for the ship, like more cannons or a better appearance.
But this would be huge, like people said, so it would have to be a large part of a new expansion. Like the Faction vs Faction premise of Factions.

It would be an awesome Idea if something similar would be implemented. Perhaps have a mission in a boat, the boat would sail around the islands (automatic movement on the map) and while you're on the boat, sea monsters occasionally attack you, and you have to protect the captain and the, steerman (forgot his name) from dying. Then you can exit the boat when you reach an island, and fight some more^^.
/notsigned for threadmakers Idea. I LOVE that final fantasy concept, but, this is not the place for such a thing unfortunately.

Yes but there is plenty of water in Prophecies and in factions, why not put it to use with a ship. I'm sure they have already made ships, ones in Lion Arch, its not like your required to use a ship to past something, I was thinking it was a way to have a good time, and have fun. Not many people are good at PvP, and since 95% of game is PvP, it may bore them, but if you can sail around and fight creatures harming you thats a alternative way to have fun.

I have been one of the people who have brought up this idea before. Anet may do it in the future.
they were soposed to make a bout ride in factions but they really never done it.

I'm not mocking you because I posted something in the past, but here are some ideas that I came up with.
I love the idea of moving the battle to a totaly different kind of terrain, the deck of a ship, and instead of a group of players just following eachother, one person can steer, another can navagate, and others could man the ship, allowing a new mode of exploration on a new kind of scenery, the ocean.
People are already tired of the land travel and simular land scapes of Tyria and Cantha, this is only our second installment and players want something different, well don't overlook something different when you ask for it, this is definetly different and it has a very different feel. On top of that, there are alot of players who arn't thrilled to endlessly drudge in one direction or the other, who needs auto run if someone else is steering the ship, you can just sit back and attack any creatures that ambush you or ships you cross.
A boat ride is about as eventful as a merry go round or a "Around the World in 80 days" at Disney Land, some preliminary missions which don't hand over control of the ship to players would be alright, but not having a sea exploration mode would be a crime.
50K-100K isn't very much for a guild, and a strong PvE element for guild is in high demand, this would be a perfect addition, and a fitting price for an attack vessel.

Boats really make travel fun in MMO's, for instance in Ultimate Online (classic). Boats were really cool, but I don't see A.net changing their system around and adding basically a whole new plane for them. It also isn't necessary when you can just whip our your map, click, and zone.
Same deal when you talk about mounts and think it would be cool if they could be implemented. GW just isn't that kinda MMO...
I'd love to see them try to add something with it, but seriously doubt it will occur.

Any other thoughts on this idea?
This would surely bring a lot of fun into this game!

My idea is .. what i would say a little more fitting for this particular game... but perhaps there are ships that you could take from island to island in a chain of islands. The chain of islands is actually one explorable area but to get to each you use a boat that will automatically start sailling to the next ect.. then enemies can attack and so forth.
On a slighty side note i was sort of expecting the Jade Sea to have more of an enviroment where you would be fighting through abandoned ship wrecks... i know there are a few but more in the way that the city was designed... if that make sense.

Yeah maybe a ship owned by a guild, have have to goto Guild Hall to use it, and considering its an island it would be perfect, but then it has to be worth a lot, like 500K. Then maybe a storage person on a ship where your guild stores things guild members can use and OTHER GUILDS can raid you, if you go exploring, and when your exploring maybe find rare items for everyone that went, but have to bring it back to your guild if you wanna keep it, and guilds can double team or 10 on 1 you (alliance be used greatly). So to sum it, you can do guild storage on ship(IDEA), when sailing around people can raid your ship for you treasure/ things in guild storage (cant put customized stuff in it, and IDEA), sail around kill things for items, maybe farther sail better chance of item, and you gotta bring it back to guild before its offically yours, AND its gotta be in the treasure chest/storage no room no item, you can be attacked for it, and if you loose the attacker gets everything in you treasure chest (IDEA)
Just some more ideas to help make having a ship in guild wars become possible. what you guys think?
