Disable unidentified items
Clone
I've seen a lot of people selling unidentified items of late. While these could be legitimate trades, I can't help but wonder how many of these people are simply scamming others. For weapons and focus items, the mods can be known to the sellers by simply equiping the item and looking for changes in health, energy, or some other decernable effects. With this huge advantage to the seller, the chance that you'll buy an unidentified item with certian mods, a max fortitude mod for example, is very poor. The practice of selling unidentified items is listed on Guildwiki's common scams page, yet I see it happen in nearly every trade channel. I would like to see an item's mods not activate until the item has been identified. That way, sellers that prefer to leave the items unidentified can operate as normal, while people who want to gamble on buying unidentified items can do so without the fear of being scammed.

Why not make it so that you can't equip an item unless it is unidentified?

Disabling the effects of unidentified mods? That sounds reasonable. Though i'd never buy an unidentified weapon in my life...
It shows some realism too, though it may be possible for you to guess the properties of a wepon, realisticly if you dont know what it does, putting it on you wont give you much of an understanding.

i've noticed a lot more "wts GW account for xxxk" or "WTB GW account for xxxk....
over all i'm not sure if just disableing/unequip UnId's would help because really if you had a patch like this people are still going to sell UNid's reguardless. but Ya i know your frustion if you bought some and got crap. I'll stick w/ what you said about it being a gamble -).
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s....php?t=3065457 bought all his UnId's for the heck of it and the axe had 30 life mod and resold it for 40k the same night.

some people buy gold Unidentifieds to gain that title. So I agree a lot of it is probably scamming, but there is a potential market for those that want to gain the title.
Edit: Anywho's, what that had to do with this topic? I'm not so sure..But back on topic. Anything to reduces scams is fine by me.

I'd never pay more than 600g for an Unided.

I always found it odd you can equip them Unided. So yes, they ought to disable usage of unided items. Not like ID kits cost that much.

This would actually make selling UnID a good market again. Those of us that don't want to gamble with that gold Req. 7-9 can sell it at a reasonable price, while those wanting to simply gamble instead of hunting/farming or working at the wisdom title can just buy them without fear of scams.
The way it should be. Honestly, the way it is now almost seems like a built-in exploit, if there is such a thing.

As much as i hate people who sell unid you are the one at fault. Dont buy things unidentified if you arent sure, its your gamble. A-Net shouldnt have to worry about something you can just boycott.

I don't care much. I don't buy or sell unIDs...
However, I heard that some people get into meetings where they use like Mantras of ELEMENT or see the damage and stuff and find out what the mod is.

I may sound a noob but... do unidentified stuff's mods still work? I didn't know that tbh.
Geez. Almost 9 months playing and still didn't know that.
