I spent 2 hours wondering through perdition rock (because i needed a good excuse to get more time on the drunk title) so i decided to cap obsidian flesh. but no boss showed up, no patrol, no wife of his, nothing. i know the spawn is either him or his wife, but does the spawn also make a no-patrol boss? next time i venture out i think i will be sober.

Either him or his wife ALWAYS spawn, there is no "empty spawn". It took me about 21 attempts to get him, its one hell of a bad skill to cap if you dont get lucky!

But im 100% sure that there is always either him or her.

Obsidian Flesh is available from the explorable Gyala Hatchery. Start at the Leviathan Pits and head out to Gyala Hatchery - head north-west. There's a load of Leviathan mouth/claw/eye bosses and one (elementalist) has obsidian flesh.

i would recommend capping outside hatchery if you have factions, it's far easier. It took me two hours to track down harn coldstone on perdition rock, its a really slow cap!
Just follow the usual path to the right killing everything slowly, and if you don't catch up to him keep going..I think when i finally caught him he'd done a whole circuit and was walking (sorta) by the res point.

I spent so much time on perdition rock that when capping obsidian flesh, it took me about 10 minutes. avoid the groups moving around near the entrance, go to north east, see if harm or maxine spawned, cap if harm coldstone. (watch for spirits if he already started his patrol)
once you know ennemies paths & how to aggro em, perdition rock cap is really fast

He never spawns at the same spot in Perdition; to make it even rougher on you, when you get near him, he has a tendency to walk away. I had to basically clear out a lot of Perdition Rock to get to him, but it was due to the fact that he patrols a lot, not that he didn't spawn.
Then again, Anet might have switched things up by now...

i learned with my ranger that quickshot was a pain in the *** to cap...so when i went to cap obsidian flesh i decided to just clear the area just outside of ember light camp and any patrols that would cross my spot and then i just started watching King Arthur until one of the bosses walked by. =] and aundura is right, its always one or the other. finally after clearing out the area once completely for quickshot, i just started running to it and if quickshot had spawned, then i henched towards it with the 15% dp. but i'm in personal favor of just afk'ing it for a bit until they patrol by.

That's the path that both Harn and Maxine take. They go counterclockwise, you go clockwise and eventually you'll run into them. Or you could set up camp at a location on their route and wait.

Also if you see ranger spirits, rezone.
