Making Weaponsmiths Useful
eudas
I would ask that the developers of Guild Wars consider the idea of making Weaponsmiths more useful by adding functionality as follows:
For a fee (X gp + some materials and/or collectible drops), weaponsmiths can "reforge" a weapon and change its Skin.
Example: Warrior A has a Droknar's Forge long sword (the one with the Gladius skin). He has weapons mods on it, and it's customized, so he wants to keep the weapon, but he wants a weapon with the Oni Blade skin (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Oni_Blade). So he takes it to the weaponsmith in House zu Heltzer (or Cavalon for that matter), and for the cost of, say, a katana from Kaineng Center (5k + 40 iron + 10 steel, or something like that) plus 10 oni claws, now it's an Oni Blade.
So, basically, the cost of buying a new sword plus some really weird collectible drops that seem relevant to each particular skin would allow players to get the "looks" they wanted for weapons without having to farm extensively or pay ridiculous amounts (100k + x ectos) for rare skins...
Just an idea that occurred to me.

The thing is, the market for high-priced nice-skin weapons would drop dramatically, due to everyone changing weapons into those skins.

And it is not really useful either, changing skins doesnt help you in the battle. Instead of that, I'd like weaponsmith to be able to add mods (not upgrades) in the weapons (ie. 15^50, 15 enchanted etc).

re: above,
then it wouldmake rare drop less rare, and the who green idea becomes stupid, cuz u can just add mod to make it perfect...
maybe make them able to add non perfect mod to weapon...

I'd rather they just made craftable weapons useful... Seriously, who in there right mind pays 5-10k worth of Steel and Iron, then 5k on top of that for a shitty sword they could get from the nearest Collector for 5 Putrid Cysts? Something that could be bought or scrounged from the alliance in about 10 minutes.

Also, collectores are wirde spread and often in boring, mob infested areas themselfs.
So its basically an exchange of gold vs time... as so many things in GW.

Actually, I like the idea, but it should be limited to the materials we have in the game.
Jade/Amber weapons should be craftable (or skinable) via the crafters to add some more use to the amber and jade.
Platinum weapons to add in something of a money sink (turn in the plat for a platinum bar for crafting that skin).
Just those two examples, but I think the idea came across. Still leaves rare items rare and only allows for some types of skins to be crafted.

Rare skins are supposed to be "rare"

Winterclaw
/signed but for common skins only
Long swords, short swords, spathas, falchions, flambereges, katanas, dadao swords, and broad swords would all be common enough to change. Also crafters should be able to make any of those instead of only one skin.
For the skins meant to be rare, this shouldn't be an option (or if it is it should be more difficult to do so).

Well... you have different skins in different armor crafters.
- Make them all craft weapons with different skins.
In areas where you purchase under perfect level armor, they'll have the same current and only skin they have in each chapter (From starting points to Droknar's Forge, Kaineng and Consulate Docks).
Anywhere else they would have different skins.
In nightfall thay would be all uniscribed.
In Factions and Propheces they would have different skins and properties, unless they make old chapters have inscriptions too, in that case they'll be uniscribed too.
This way you could craft an uninscribed Gothic shield in Vaarsburg armory and add it later an inscription, and a core.

get your weapons yourself, its a sport to actualy get a good weapon and with NF how can you NOT get a perfect weapon since your can strip a weapon to the bone down... even without a title, I tried many times... works for about 50% of the time.
I wouldn't care what would be done to normal sword skins, however if a player choose to customize its weapon, they know they are stuck with it for the rest of that chars playtime

I also think Blacksmith and collectors could use a bit of rework...

As said, the rare should be as they are, rare.
Would be okie for common skin, depend on the regional. And I do like how you add the need for additional mob drop.
