Has anyone else noticed that when the monsters use Shatter Enchantment, it STILL hits you for damage even when you don't have an enchantment on? I was doing the Rujiyo (sp?) quest today, and I suddenly got hit for 100+ damage from the spell, even though i had no enchantments on me whatsoever! This is not an isolated incident, either. It happens to me all the time...

Just wondering if I'm the only unlucky one...

No, you're not, I think I might have seen another spell do damage to me in the arena, with no enchantments on.

I think in your case Endiel you're refering to Desecrate Enchantments,which does base damage and additional damage for each enchantment on you.

But how does do anything to him if he never had any enchantments on in the first place? He said "with no enchantments on"

And i think this is happening to everyone. It seems to be happening to me too...

I had no enchantments on me, I know it for a fact. Monk was dead, so it wasn't as if I got Healing Breeze or something on me at the same second Shatter Enchantment was cast. I have noticed this "phenomenon" happen on MANY different occasions. It kind of makes me yell profanities at ANet everytime it happens.

Chaos fingers does have alot to do with enchantment stripping... Im sure the conditions are different to that of an enemy mesmer.

Also, Desecrate enchantments does damage even if you dont have any enchantments on anyway.

speaking of Jaya Buffs.... Its frikkin haaaard!!

Maybe...but this happens everywhere to me: the south Shiverpeaks, Kryta, you name it.

Also, I know the damage is from Shatter Enchantment, and not some other enchantment-removing spell. Above my head it clearly said "-100 (Shatter Enchantment)".

I'm with you, this have happened to me as well. Shatter hits, even when you have no enchants on you. And NO, it was not desecrate ....

Theus is correct. Desecrate Enchantments (with Curses at 16), does something like 64 base damage whether you have an enchantment on you or not. The new mobs are higher level, so I assume their base damage is around 100 (hello! unfair?). The damage stacks for each additional enchantment on you. IIRC, one of the critters from the new mission was using this spell when my group tried it last night.

Wardens of the Spirit were merrily hitting me with it earlier (enchant free W/N, and I specifically didn't bring any enchant-happy henchmen). Maybe it triggers off their Brambles or something like that?

Too bad Theus forgets the essential fact that when you take damage from a skill the name of the skill appears on the screen. You can't mistake one for the other.

This has been happeneing a lot, I first noticed it in tombs that I wouldn't have any enchants on me and the dream riders would still hit me for 100.

I have noticed the name displayed isn't always accurate. I was PvPing as an Assassin with a defensive spell up, and people who cast spells on me said I was protected by "Spell Breaker" which isn't accurate.

It may be that mobs are casting "Desecrate Enchantments" but the text displayed above the players head says "Shatter Enchant" arbitrarily.

Yeah the "Spell Breaker" for Shadow Form has been around since preview...

As for shatter, why must there be any more discussion about it...It's a bug, so plz fix now ANET

Shatter will dmg target even if not chanted, bug to be fixed now b4 it gets used in the Seasonals

I don't think any of the enemies from the new mission is a necro. Mostly mesmers, with some warriors and elementalists.

I didn't see any necros either - but I could have sworn that's what I saw when the damage values were flashing across my screen. Will have to try the mission again and pay closer attention. It was, afterall, after 2 am when we headed out.

I'm sure i remember this happening a very long time ago. They could use Shatter Enchantment on things to do damage regardless. I could've sworn they fixed it though as i haven't seen it happen for months.

There are no necros from what I remember in those mission/quest things. However it is probably a bug and now people know about it and shall use it to their advantage! Yay... mesmers are feared in a drastic form once again!

Not sure if it works for player NPCs probably just monsters. I have had this happen to me many times, where I had no enchant and I would get shattered for 100damage. To the people in tombs, if you're going on b/p runs orders is an enchantment and it can be shattered just so you know. :]

And about ub3r mesm0rz, my sin pwn'd my g/fs mesmer a few times : D
But 1v1 mesmers are the uber cheap if they know what they're going up against.
