I'm currently running an Nvidia 6600GT. I'm going to be building a new box and I want to upgrade but at the same time, I don't want to spend some crazy amount of money.

I'm currently looking at the 7600GT. Anyone know what the approximate difference in performance is between the 6600GT and the 7600GT? I spent a good amount of time looking through Anandtech and couldn't find a good comparison. Also, what's the performance difference between the 7600GT and the 7900GT? Is it worth the $160 difference? (7600GT=~$170 and 7900GT=~$330)

Thanks!

well actully if i remember right the 6600GT and the 7600GT are pretty much the same card just the 7600GT use some of the newer technology like more advanced pixle shaders and other stuff but if i remember right there actully about the same speed i would look towards a 7800gt or something similer for a more noticeable performance difference

7600GT is pretty much the 6800GT/Ultra performancewise I believe. (And at about half the price and heat.) It'll do GW fine.

The 7600 GT is the best bang for buck right now. The 7900 GT is a very good card but cost more without providing a huge performance increase.

I look at the 7600 GT as a mid range and the 7900 high range card. The 7950 is just killer. To high to be high range.

The 6800 GT is dated and an upgrade would be sound.

i would upgrade my motherboard to a SLi one and get 2 7600GT which should provide around -5 to -15 fps than a 7900

SLI is more for the enthusiast. The 7900GT will be cheaper then two 7600GTs and provide better results in most cases. Also consider that your power supply may need updating.

SLI is much like RAID on hard drives. The general user will not see a huge differance but there is major gains in spacific areas.

yup 7600GT is best performance for price, steer clear of SLI unless you game at 1600 x 1200 and above, otherwise you wont notice any difference

Get an ATI card

No, I actually agree on the price/performance ratio of the 7600
