Why a mount should be treated any different is beyond me. I honestly wouldn't put it past Anet to imlement this as say a 2nd birthday present. But like mini pets, mounts would be purely for aesthetics.
Sounds fun.

If GW does take "inspiration" any thing from WOW (and it would be done better in GW) it should be Auction House, Warlock, Druid, and Rogue. |
Warlock - Necromancer
Druid - Rumored to be one of the new classes in Nightfall. (Would be interesting in my opinion if it was played like the druid from Diablo 2 LOD, Werewolf and Werebear instead of just plain wolf and bear.)
Rogue - Assassin.
For those who cannot make the common connection, every class in guild wars has its counter part in wow, except for the ever original mesmer.
GuildWars/WoW:
Warrior/Warrior - Obvious Comparison, Slight Differences
Elementalist/Mage - Obvious Comparison, Slight Differences
Ranger/Hunter - Obvious Comparison, Hardly any Differences
Monk/Priest - Primary Healer, Noticeable differences when it comes to offense
Necromancer/Warlock -Both uses Curses, and Both summon Demon/Undead Type allies that are only your ally for a period of time, unlike the Ranger/Hunter's pet which is permanent.
Assassin/Rogue - Obvious Comparison, Slight Differences
Ritualist/Shaman - Obvious Comparison, Almost no Differences, except that One uses Totems and the other uses Spirits, but both perform the same functions.
Mesmer/ - No true comparison yet.
/Paladin - No true comparison yet. (Please don't compare W/Mo to Paladin, or I will cut you.)
I do not know why but so many people think that the Ritualist is an exact copy of WoW's Warlock. No lie, I have heard this so many times it drives me nuts. The characterisitics of the Ritualist are almost an exact copy of the Shaman in WoW. For those of you Who do not know, I will give you the characteristics.
Shaman:
Talents - Restoration, Elemental, Enhancement
Restoration: Simply put, Healing, but not as strong as a primary healer, like a Priest.
Elemental: Lightning based magical attacks.
Enhancement: Castible weapon Enchantments.
Unique Shaman Trait - Totems: Totems are stationary, "Beings" so to speak that when cast remain stationary and have a radius of effect. These Area of Effects either aid your party, or damage the enemy.
Now, doesn't our ritualist have a strange resemblence to the WoW Shaman?
As for mounts, /notsigned
To many comparisons to WoW already. If anything, they should allow you to use skills in town.
I think mounts are implementable, but only in a limited state.
Imagine if you will......
Mission: Cataract of Scaropolea
Goal: Find and stop the Assassin Mojiran from reaching the Tower of Scaropolea before he has a chance to light the beacon and signal the Orrian fleet. The rest of his assassin guild will be trying to stop you. Kill them all.
Imagine a timed chase mission. All players are on mounts (mounts vary by class, but all give a 25% constant speed boost) and have to fight enemies that are specifically designed vs mounted players.
Players will still have all their skills, using new animations. Speed buffs will STACK with the mount speed boost.
The chase occurs along a river that leads to a mighty waterfall with a tower at the top of the waterfall.
So ya...i have been thinking abuot this too :P
