I have a problem that, i try to connect and it shows the first screen where it connects to arenanet to search for updates, but i took the program off my zone alarm firewall so that if it tried to connect to anet then i would get a pop up asking me if it would allow this, but this didnt even trigger that, and i got the pink bit saying unable to connect.

I went on my guild vent and asked a guildie if he could connect and he said that he was in game now and that he logged out and then logged back in, atm i even have problem connecting to their website, but apparently for him, he can connect to it just fine.... what the hell?

I Know that it isnt my internet because everything else loads fine, no website has been blocked, ive checked my processes, and nothing dodgy seems to be running that shudnt be there, im at a loss as to why this is happening.

use BT's DNS servers: 194.74.65.69 and 217.35.209.180

changed DNS server to BT's and up it came looks like a demon DNS problem.

to change dns go to network connection in control panel and then right click you connection and select properties. double click tcp/ip(internet protocol) and you will you the option to set manual dns. good luck cyas in games

damn changing DNS only got me a little further but this looks like an isp issue for sure, will give them a call but dont hold out much hope its hard to explain these kind of problems to folks who only recently took up english as a second language and read tech support from screen prompts

Another Demon user here with same problem. If they don't get this sorted soon I'm definately gonig to change ISP, this is unacceptable, especially as their service has been twitchy for a while now making it hard to run my business.

I live in the US and I'm not a computer person so I don't really know what that demon internet is but I can't log in on my computer at all. It will open the connecting screen and just sit there...it stays at 0%. I can get on guildwars.com though. I can also log in from a different computer...just not this one.

i contacted support team and my problem was with anti-virus software

im using NOD32 and here is how you can solve this problem if you are using NOD32:

In order to do so please follow the instructions:
- Open the NOD32 program
- Click on IMON -> Setup -> General
- In the column "Exceptions", click on "Modify"
- Choose gw.exe and click OK

I don't use that software. I use Norton Antivirus but I've never had a problem with it before. Yesterday I closed Norten and also disabled my firewall to see if that would help and it didn't. The support page at guildwars.com says if using a router to make sure TCP ports 6112 and 80 are open and running but that isn't the problem either.

I have tried with wireless, hard-wired, and dial up on this comp. Nothing works. I'll get back home today and see if it works OK on my home computer. I think it is something Anet did with their update as I am getting nothing after 2 days. If all else fails, I will uninstall and reinstall on this comp and see if it works. I have sent in a support request and am awaiting an answer.

How can you reinstall it if it has to connect to arenanet to do the installation? I thought about that but if it won't connect now then the installation wouldn't work either. Last night I tried to install factions and when it went to connect it just sat there at 0%.

Forget my last comment. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and now it's fine.

Uninstalling first is a key component of the whole thing. I'm glad it worked for you, so now I will try it.
