I with also concur that spirits ignore armor. if for nothing more than to increase my post count by 1 
They don't ignore protection like prot spirit, though I doubt a spirit would ever deal dmg more than 10% of your hp anyway. I'm not quite sure whether or not a non-life-stealing spirit's dmg is reduced by things such as shielding hands or absorption runes. I'd need another person to test that.

And yes, the other Spirits do ignore armor; I have noted such in my own experience (be it yet brief) as a Communing Ritualist.
