I think the first +5energy Brute Sword was found in prior to the release of factions (by a couple days) so I assume so.
I am not 100% sure though, and would like to know if I should continue searching for the +5 energy fellblade.

Nope. A few were found before factions, but nothing after that. So capitalist, chances are bad that youll find that.
