Account Not Authorized To Play Guild Wars
xthedavex
I just bought a brand spanking new guild wars game the other day. I installed the game, activated the CD-Key succesfully, confirmed the account in my email and logged on to play. After playing for a few hours I took a break to eat din din. After I was much satisfied with my evening meal, I logged back on to Guild Wars. Right before my very own eyes in a little red box was a message that said "your account is currently not authorized to play guild wars". OK, after having some what of a "WTF" episode for a few minutes I immediately contacted NCSoft via email. I was instructed by an NCSoft Tech to send in my CD-KEY and Email address that I used for that account. After waiting another day I was contacted by them again stating that they were letting Account Support handle this issue. By the way, the initial email was sent to account support. Right now I am currently waiting for NCSoft to solve this dilemma. Is there anyone here that might have had this problem before or ever heard of it happening? I do not use any illegal 3rd party programs like bots that might have warrented such an action as to lock my account out from me. Could this be just some type of user data base error, or am I out $40.00 cash and about 2 days of my life trying to figure this one out? Please help.

Ok, I have three comments:
1) Was the purchase from a reputable dealer and the box sealed when when you got it? Many people buy used versions off eBay or such that end up having the key stolen or such.
2) Did you use the right key out of the box? Some boxes of GW had a "guest" key included so that you could invite someone for a few days. (Not sure if this still applies.) If you used the wrong key, it would only be a trial account.
3) Did the message say anything about a "ban"? GW is currently experiencing a banning fiasco - you may have been an unlucky victim. (See some of the hot topics in the Riverside Inn.) If this is the case, then you'll just need to wait for a response from ArenaNet.
Just wanted to cover this - if GW had an update, you'll need to completely close the application and restart (not just log out). This is probably not the answer, but wanted to mention it.
Good luck!

yeah it sounds like you used the guest key instead of the real key. this would explain your sudden loss of the ability to play. go through the guild wars box and find a sealed envelope that should say something like authorisation key. the correct key is on the inside of that. or its in the inside od the cd case behind a lead or w/e block that you have to scratch away.

Yea, I used the right CD-KEY. No it didnt say anything about a BAN. But yes, I did in fact purchase this game off of eBay. I actually contacted the seller of this item before I sent an email to NCSoft Support. He stated that none of the items had been tampered with in anyway. This particular seller has a feedback rating of 99% from 300+ buyers. But you never know, right? After doing some extensive googling I found out that NCSoft does not allow people to sell their games on eBay. Looks like I got stiffed on this one.

Ouch, man. If it was an un-opened box, it shouldn't have mattered though. Just keep waiting on the response. I'd give it a week, then hit them up asking what happened. Don't try to open up a new ticket though. Be sure to mention that you have contacted them on this issue before, and are simply curious as to the progress of the investigation. Good luck in getting this one resolved. I hope it all works out for you.

My petition has is currently being reviewed by a Senior Support Technician. Hopefully I will be able to get this resolved without having to buy the game again. WARNING.....BE CAREFUL BUYING OR SELLING ANYTHING GUILD WARS ON EBAY!!!

The thing that gets me here is if the CD-KEY was no good, stolen, or not authorized by NCSoft, why would I have been able to activate the CD-Key in the first place? I played the game with out any problems what-so-ever for about 5 hours before any of this happened. I will say this about NCSoft. They sure take their sweet time even responding let alone fixing the problem. But then again what do you expect for free technical support?

So did anyone figure out why this is happening? I am also getting this same message. I havnt played in about 2 months but when i did play my game worked fine. I bought the game from best buy un opened and everything. When i go to add my cd key to the account it sais that it is already in use. At character select screen it sais that my account is not autorized to play guild wars. Any help would be nice,

EMail tech support about your account being banned Jakik. ANet regularly shuts down huge swaths of accoutns due to botting. The occasionally catch a few innocents. goto support.guildwars.com, fill out a ticket on the Ask a Question tab, reply to the first email it sends you with, this didn't help me, and answer any questions they may ask of you. If you've indeed been good, you should be back up and running in short order.

the first response to a support is always an automated response.
you must respond to this auto response WITHIN 24 hours or it will auto close as solved (you didnt say it didnt fix the problem) and then you start over with a new ticket.
simply reply that this did not solve the problem and go from there

OMFGIZ I WANNA PLAY! i sent a e-mail 6 hours ago and nothing helpful other then they are switching me to the accout support. I may as well just return this stupid game for my money back.
