what if only 1 profession?
Pueblo
we all know that u can be 2 professions in guild wars to give u different variety and stategy in skills..
but what if guild wars only allowed u to be 1 profession like other rpg games...
this would mess up lots of builds but would be kinda interesting..
i like to be 2 professions, but the reason i brought this up is cuz when i bought it i thot u can only be 1..
what u guys think? would u guys like it better this way to give your group more strategy.. and also knowing when u vs a warrior he will ONLY use warrior skills....
i just want to know what u think.....i dont wanna hear any complaints about this just want hear what u guys think....
thx,

I've played my ranger, mesmer, assassin, ele, and warrior all using only primary skills (some more than others). I don't think this makes any character class worthless, but it certainly does cut down on the creativity and variability of the game, which would be a bad thing. All the classes can stand alone, but the fun and challenge come from the combos.

Hidden in the Mist
My warrior already use a pure warrior skill set.

The most interesting part is how to use two professions together. IMO, it would ruin Guild Wars.
Kruzing Low
when i first got gw i thought the same thing
"man wtf 2 professions, now imma be confused the whole time on which skills of each to use, wtf why cant it just be one itd be easier wtf"
after a lot of playing time and time in observer mode though, i actually cant see how gw would be with just one profession
the 2 professions just makes guild wars, guild wars

well if you could only take one class I'm 100% sure that the class skills wouldn't be the same as they are now, so the quistion makes little sense.
Gus The Gamer
I use mainly my primary skills for my ele and change my secondary only to unlock the elite skills.

wth no IWAY? >_>

This is for unlocking other skills for PvP if you only want to use your primariies then you are free to do so.You might want to look at it this way you have 3 pve char and say each can unlock all skills in game then you have 1 slot free for pvp that is how the game is suppose to work.
Arkantos
Pure warriors ftw!
Anyways, GW wouldnt be half as interesting if you could only be one profession.

Depends really. My Ranger has generally a pure ranger skillset (I tend to use a beastmaster) but when it's handy I'll chuck in some blood magic (usually well of blood in mass death missions like vizhuna square), or some mesmer interrupts for my warrior for Boreas, ect.
Maxiemonster
Definitly not, I don't want my Monk to be forced to use Boon Signet!

A primary class only arena would be fun.

Only primary = no hamstorm = autofail. :/

I refuse to play a game with no hamstorm. It's all about the ham.
The Great Al
i kind of wish this would happen. classes have absolutely no uniqueness in this game...we should only be able to choose 1 profession, but have a lot more skills in our skillbar
Glitched
I prefer to play only the skills of my primary profession, but admit that the 2-professions is one of the key features of guild wars, and wouldnt want to get rid of it. On the other hand, having single professions would make balancing much easier, and would open up new possibilities for professions. Pro's and Con's both ways I guess.
The Great Al
ive only played WoW once or twice at a friends house...the one thing i loved about it was, when i played as a mage, i actually felt like i was really playing as a mage...all the mage skills were awesome. Now its like everyone is a mix of 2 classes and 8 skills.
wilebill
Except for my ele, everything else is primary only. There are not enough attrib points for secondary without robbing Peter to pay Paul.
GW should have two sets of attrib points. One could be applied only to primary, the other smaller set only to secondary. This would result in the variety of builds the game designers had hoped for. Don't know why they did not do this.

- Armor Choice
- Runes
- Base Energy pool and regen
Yeah, I can see how every secondary classes make everyone the same. Excuse me as I go make my w/mo into a dedicated healer...

Hamstorm is terrible!
Guild wars without 2nd proffessions, it would not be guild wars, t would be your average MMORPG.
Only primary, nokthxbye.
Saying classes have no uniqueness?

Personally I wudnt play GW if it was a 1 class char game, it wouldnt be as fun.
Curse You
Some quotes from the Original Guild Wars box(yes I keep it in my desk).
I don't know about you, but I doubt any game would have 30 different character types.
This just plain out says it. Two professions.
So there is actually no excuse for thinking that Guild Wars would be one profession based and being annoyed when it's actually two.

Mr_Unlucky
What is Hamstorm?
Raxxman
I think in a warriors case its important to max out your weapon (dammage is your bread and butter) and often tactics (sheilds + heal) or strength (sheilds) the pay off is you have limited points to put into other skills.
Also having next to 0 energy regen, and a small energy pool causes problems when trying to use other classes skills, which are all energy based.
I've been running pure warrior since becons.

Unless it's for GvG or something like that, I just run pure primary builds (except for rez), wars have weapon skills and some strength (+ressurect), and monk is pure monk..Wouldnt change much

Dual prof is why I love GW.
Don't take my love away.

Monks need energy management, and support skills.
One proffession would be plain dumb, and it would remove the beauti of the game.

Dual-class & multi-class is a pretty old concept by RPG standards (1st ed. AD&D anyone?), and Guild Wars is relatively simplistic as far as sheer number of character variables (i.e. compare it to Shadowbane or NWN or just about any other game with different character races, base ability stats, skill stats, equipment stats, no 8-skill limit, etc.). While I often use "pure" or single-class builds in GW, I see no reason to limit characters to just one class.
