Survivor 3
Blame the Monks
Hey all,
I just hit Survivor 2 (~620k exp atm) on my new warrior and was curious if anyone had hit Survivor 3 yet. If so, how did you earn the XP and what close calls have you had?
I earned Survivor 2 by playing through the game as normal and then completing all the side quests and capping elites. It was much easier than I expected and I only have 30 hours logged so far. My two close calls were during Viz square when the other team unleashed a 16 person edge bomb in the final area. My team got wiped, but just before they died a guildate tossed a rof on me and I hit endure pain and sprinted away in time. (We ressed up and still got masters, btw). My second close call came outside gay hatchery, when I got a little careless against a naga warrior mob. They pure strike spiked me and got me down to 75 health for so before I endured and sprited away.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a Level 3 Survivor and i went out capping all elites i could get my hands on. Did ascension in Tyria. But most of my experience came from capping Elites.
Close calls. One when i got a lil careless capping an Ele elite in Cantha - think it was Ride the Lightning
Edit : If you have good friends i suggest doin FoW runs - nice and easy XP .

Well..after a guildy of mine got his 1337,500 xp at 1337 hours total played..i would have to say the best way to get that survivor for a war is going to have to be troll farming outside droks...168 or something a kill without scrolls..by far the best xp..hard to get killed doing it too

BLah, my ele was on 181k xp, just b4 I died(about 20-50hp) I quit the game. when I logged back on, says I died 1 time. Oh well, least I got the first title, my mesmer will probly have an easier time, hopefully to get to the 3rd title, but she still lv2 My rit is currently near 300k xp w/o dying, each account has 1 char for potential legendary.

Working on an assassin legendary... been using henchmen so far, tanked Mayhem in the Market (well with a guildie's perma-prot-spirit on me). Not all survivors leech...
And yes people who will post about me, I made you power me through Shing Jea because I did it twice already and I'm on assassin #8

I haven't earned it yet, but tbh it has been less difficult than I expected. Deaths are almost always a result of incompetence or carelessness. The biggest tip I would give is to not get lazy and try to run a mission/zone rather than hench it. Spend the extra 5 minutes of grind and don't risk it. Also, henches > pugs. They die less, are smarter, don't leave, and don't mind waiting until it is safe. When the battle turns sour, withdraw before the wipe happens. You should never lose more than 2-3 henches, even in a bad retreat. Then just res them back up and keep going.
My method was simple - I did all the quests in presearing (got me to level 8 or so) and got to postsearing. (BTW, I elected to go ch1 toon because I like the faces better. Ch2 would be faster). Once I was post, I bought ascalon armor and fought through the missions with henches until I got to LA. I got master's on every mission (except the bonus where you have the doylaks charge down the hill - I elected to skip that one as I thought my henches might lose) and completed most of the side quests. When I got to LA, I went to cantha and bought max armor (+ life armor, btw, since I was still only like level 13). To get the look I wanted, I used the henches to fight to the docks while my level 13 stayed out of range.
Once I had max armor, I bought a victos shield and an axe. My bar is: sprint, endure, triple chop (easy to get outside k-town), exe, pene, mending, rebirth, and a cap sig or healing sig. I don't use a sup rune, so at level 20 I have 625 hps. Then I started plowing through all the missions and quests, getting masters for the exp. The quests around k-town alone gave me ~200k exp probably and were easily henchable. Cavalon and hzh were similarly exp rich. The great majority of the time I played with henches; however, if I expect a certain place to be a challenge I wait for a guild group.
So far I am at gayla hatchery in ch2 and thead keep in ch1 (~700k exp). I have ~30 hours logged. I've never farmed trolls, used scrolls, or leeched. Other than the two close calls I posted, it hasn't been that hard (there was one other semi-close call. I was fighting from cavalon to the turtle hatch and my henches got wiped. There was an ele boss between me and my goal. I knew it was a calculated risk due to computer cheating, but I ran past him. He hit me for a couple of 300 damage orbs and such bullshit but I made it. BTW devs, bosses hitting for 300 dmg with a basic skill is weak shit, especially with henches).
The only problem I have come across is now that I have completed the great majority of the quests, its harder for me to get exp quickly. My current plan is to cap elites from various professions for 5k exp a pop. This will be a little pricey, but I will need a lot of elites for when I convert this toon to a pvp char anyhow. Almost all elites you can cap within 10 minutes with henches. I also plan to clear out sorrow's furnance and the titan's quests. Perhaps a little UW, although I've never been a fan of that place. Based on my past experience, I believe these places can be done without dying, although it will take me a few days to get reliable groups to clear thead and the ring of fire.

I think the biggest danger is from lag spikes. Came very close to dying in a lag where I was standing in multiple fire traps. I got mine to Survivor and working on next level, but there have been moments when I have to bail out with the magic x in the upper right corner.
Usually I fight through with henchies. I tell groups and runners that I am working on title, I will fight, but might have to bail or run away. It gets some people a little pissy, but they were warned.
I went through pre-sear to lvl 8, got run to Lions Arch and went Cantha for a bunch of FedEx quests and am now in the desert working on getting ascended.
Completely avoid PvP and use henchies seems to be what works best for me.
This character is a Wa/Mo, probably easiest with all the prot and healing spells that are out there to keep you going. I use Healing Breeze, Protective Spirit, a condition remover, sprint, some axe attacks, and a rez. When I bring a Cap Sig, I drop the condition remover or one of my attacks. Being able to rez henchies is important. I also use Canthan Glads armour for the extra energy. Superior Absorption but only Major Vigor and supporting minor runes. I am also using a Totem Axe (for extra energy and enchantment time) and a decent shield with a health bonus.

I am currently at about 260000xp on my surviving mesmer. I have successfully completed every quest (except the Galrath one for 4000xp), I have also completed all but 2 missions in full up to where I am at the moment, I have just ascended in the desert, and am busy redoing missions to cap all the desert elites. So far henchies have been my friends all the way through, Ive had no problem completing all mission and bonuses (except Dunes and the Dragons lair), but Im planning on having them done by the end of this weekend. I have to say its been ok so far, Im really enjoying playing a mesmer, just feeling a little anxious about been in the southern shiverpeaks, but that might be nothing in the end. Im thinking Ill go across to Cantha for the Fedex quests after capping the elites in the desert. ive been collecting screenshots as i go, hoping to post a diary of the achievement once I have it

I have survivor1 on my E/mo just doing the Island with henchies and buying lost sons letter. Guildies helped with last two missions for experts.
[Cry] guild leader is getting his Level3 tonight R/Me. A 55,scrolls and R/me UW runs FTW he gets like 266xp a kill+5kxp+per quest....last night we were capping skills for 5k all secondaries..

Abandoned my quest for the survivor title for the time being. Maybe later when I need one last special challenge. I used to use henchmen (much more reliable than PUGs), but find that at one time or another I become careless. Just this one more foe with <50% health - Boom - terminated because among these last two newcommers was a boss... careless.
Dangers?
... Anything that can spike me, especially when I don't expect it ...
... Being too absorbed with a close fight to watch the map ...

Rangers and Necros have it easiest IMHO, they can DuO UW and make roughly 25-30k xp per run.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...lig ht=famine
for the ranger thread, however I do not use that exact bar.
For More XP with the ranger, you can bring an SS along and do first few quests, an SS can do them without the ranger.

Tips are
Dont get powerleveld, its slow, expensive, and boring, and youll prolly die anyway.
POSISTIONING IS EVERYTHING
Some risks are necessary to progress in the game, prepare for them.
(ie: interupt ele bosses to stop party wipes)

I think you can make more from soloing trolls w/ scrolls.

hmmm, maybe with a trapper, tho still, just taking whirling and troll and that being the only self defense is still very iffy for me. UW runs however are about 10-15 mins for just smites, and yield min 20k xp

chuckle... So who's going to be the first person to get Legendary Survivor... in Pre-Searing!?!?!
2ndName
Yeah, if I was not that attached to my primary warrior, I would delete and recreate for a level 3 Survivor. I tried the whole survivor dealy with my Necro. Made it fine to level 1 Survivor. Started to cap skills and that one boss outside of Senji's just pure owned me for 400dmg.
IIIPowerIII
I made it fine to 1200k exp with my warrior. Then I left the game at 50hp and It gave me 1 deaths... So I lost my title for 130k ish exp... :P Then I took a break of GW and now i'm back to try again :P

That said, I'm about 90k off lvl2 survivor, and have to admit, most of it is farmed.
In regards to farming though, I'm after the 15k kurzik armor and.. JUST playing the game, ISNT going to get me the 75k I need, so I'm justifying my farming for xp with that.
Of course, it doesn't help that I'm hopelessly paranoid, will not play the character if I'm slightly tired for fear of making a mistake, and believe that if I'm in a team, I'd like to help the team as much as I can... which includes taking risks occasionally.
To everyone who has legendary survivor, congrats! It takes a lot of dedication to reach that one

This reminds me, if you're going for Survivor tiers higher than 1, be very careful about Vizunah Square mission in Cantha.
Be prepared that you might get killed in the final cutscene if there are minions around (from either side) as they go hostile and can end up resulting in death = 1 after cutscene is over.
It happened to my Survivor (Search forum for it, thread is here somewhere)
I got a reply from Anet about that bug and basically they said they won't do anything to reinstate or compensate, even if you lose it through no fault of your own i.e. bugged cutscene.
I can think of at least one other cutscene, Raisu Palace halfway through you could be picked off by shiroken rangers if you're unlucky enough to be at the far end of the lineup of players in the cutscene.

Died at 727k exp the other night and now restarting. I had every elite capped, all masters missions and quests done up to unwaking waters, then died at kuunavang because I stupidly had faith that I couldn't die with 3 ritualists and two monks on our team alone. I guess I hadn't counted on all 5 of them being absolutely hopeless and should have quit out before we even went in the mission :\
Currently level 19 and getting to 20 in Tyria before going to repeat everything in Cantha from level 20 as I feel it'll give me that few k edge on exp when I get to unwaking again.

got my legendary survivor with an on your knees glads defense builds farming trolls with slayer scrolls, abotu 9k xp for 5 minutes work a run

Most every class has a solo farm build, although some have it harder than others, but just find that build then use and abuse. If you can pull off doing troll farming runs or something close with exp scrolls nothing really comes close in terms of speed and the low difficulty level.

But! Aren't you Really screwing over any group you join up with? I mean, you start to get a little low on health and you leave. I hope the survivor title people only play with friends or henchies. I wouldn't want someone attempting the survivor title in my group.
Do you warn people in your group that you're going after the survivor title?

Do I contribute less to the team? Yeah, definatly missing 1 skill, so instead of 7 skills + res I carry 6 + res and possibly only 5 so I can have a self heal and illusion of weakness. (if I'm running illusion)
Then again, any mending warrior is probably contributing just as much to the team as I am, even without the survivor title

A really cheap way to get the title, but a way:
Start a Mo/any (55 monk)
Get a run to the Desert.
Get powerleveled in the Desert.
once you hit 20 and are ascended, pack all the 55 skils and head out for farming.
Kill griffons and hydras all day, as long as you are familiar with 55ing, you shouldn't die.
Result? Endless XP.

its better to have the guild window open so you can go to the guild hall instead of quitting the game. When you quit there are still a few seconds where you can die.

You could also tag along with any 55 or a friend who has a 55 monk or necro and gain
your title that way too it's power leveling to a certain extent but it would work no probs...
