EviL Reigns Supreme in Season 3!

For the hardcore fans of competitive play, there may be no greater treat than picking apart a match between The Last Pride and War Machine. Innovators at their game, perennial front runners, and bitter rivals, the Season 3 finals promised a metagame within a metagame, and certainly did not disappoint. Having already secured the number one seed for the GWFC Finals in Germany, War Machine was playing for pride, while EviL was playing for the chance at their own bye in the first round of the championships, and a guaranteed $10,000. With the pressure weighty, and money on the line for the first time in an online qualifier, EviL were simply the more prepared, more coordinated team on this day, and will receive Season 3’s surprise prize for their victory. What could it possibly be? (I’m guessing it’s a Gaile Gray mini-pet)

GG to The Last Pride, they truely are the greatest. It gets more exciting when there's money to be made from victory. I bet they don't pull out their pumpkin heads and gingerbread shields during a match with 10k of real cash up for grabs! ;-)

P.S. Why would Korean's want a minipet of an english-speaking PR person?

Keep it on topic please.

I myself was very excited to see the last pride win! The decisive factor of the second match really surprised me, but in all honesty.. I think it was the only chance WM had to save any face at all.

Besides the season 2 of this tournament.. I haven't really seen Last Pride not being on the top.. Either way, I found the matches to be interesting.

Evil didn't underestimate WMs assassins. They killed them both right out, and they didn't get a chance to come back. Assassins are easily underestimated in GvG, but these two didn't get one single chance

I certainly am not that experienced in GvG's, but the final sure was joy to watch.

And wasn't that cool to watch? I was with a bunch of people on observer mode and we were all like, "... Wow." Expunge Enchantments FTW.

EvIL had a much harder time with WM in the first match, but they dominated the second one right from the start. Both their wins were deserved, as were the ones against Esoteric Warriors in the semis.

It has been said that WM hadn't wanted to win this match..if they did, EvIL would finish 4th seeds and face WM in their first (EvIL's second) match. They believed they had a better chance facing SoTW, iB, EW or the qualifying team, and hence wanted EvIL to win. This guaranteed not facing them until the final round when they would already have more prize money in the bank. I'm not sure if it's true though, but that is a rumor I have heard...

I don't understand much about PVP at all, but I have enjoyed watching battles between the two guilds for a little while now, very cool stuff.

War Macine messed up BIGTIME in that last match. They brought two Assassins using Shadow Form as their elite. EviL used Shatter Enchantment on them and they were dead within the second it took to cast the spell. WM shouldn't have used those assassins knowing shadow form was crap and that EviL would have a shatter enchant mesmer with them.

EviL showed a lot of skill in the first round. Both sides suffered losses, but EviL triumphed in the end. The second round was too easy for EviL since WM messed up second round with those assassins, gave EviL two easy kills.

Mera: You're missing the fact that Shadow Form actually prevents most enchantment removal in the same way that Spell Breaker does. Expunge Enchantments is a rare skill to run into, one of the only ones that works against Shadow Form*, and an inspired piece of metagaming.

*Order of Apostasy, Well of the Profane... I'm probably missing at least one more. Shatter Enchantment would have been completely useless.

PVP is good but to compete with the top guilds you do have to play it 24/7 if you read what the winning guild says it is beyond belief how much they play.

But fair play to them tho if thats what they want to do with their lives = )

WM used the same build before playoffs. They used arcane echo and arcane whatever to get 5 shadow forms in a row. 100 seconds of invulnerability.
I was watching in observer mode and it was full of pve noobs commenting "OMG that is so overpowered..." blah blah blah and so on. I couldn't get it through their thick skulls that shadow form is a gimmick elite at best and that if this build ever becomes popular a simple expunge enchantments will make it suicide to use it, wasting you 3 slots on 2 characters.

Evil knew they had that build and planned on it even in game 1. I didn't count enough skills on assassins, and I distinctly remember seeing signet of disenchantment on one of the evil's mesmers. That is another counter, but can be countered by covering shadow form, something expunge is much less vulnerable to.

Yea, shadow form assassins are very vulnerable and dangerous to use, but if the other team is unprepared, GG. They're a major gamble, one which WM lost out with.

Every kind of non-spell skills will be able to remove Spell Breaker or Shadow Form, Obsidian Flesh, etc... You forgot Signet of Disenchanment

Yeah, that makes sense. I will take stupid ectos over 100.000 dollars, every time. Who needs real money anyway

It's actually $50,000 for the first place. And this final round doesn't involve money at all... it's the Germany finals that offers money.. Both Top guilds have the seat in the tourni anyways..
and hippies won't care for this game either I don't think..

This makes a lot of sense to me. That might be why they had shadow form assassins AFTER they saw the freaking mesmer use sig of disenchantment.

My understanding is these mmrpg/competitive games (whatever you want to call them) are big business around asia - there are even t.v. shows covering them and big cash prizes. Professional gaming - it exists in the west too.
