Hi, i just bought GW yesterday and im new with everything. I just recently understood how to complete quests and stuff. I've played d2 back then when it was good and i hear d2 and GW have some similarities so i guess i have some exp. I'm just curious on a few things that i dont understand like builds, farming, and weapons. what are good what are bad. i read something about farming, what's that? and how do u kno if the weapon thats dropped from a monster good or bad? in D2 the items would be blue to ID it, gold if it was good, etc. what do u mean by customizing it? in d2 u could put stuff in the socket and do that box thing to transmit it how does it work in GW? i'm really interested in making a pvp character, any ideas on whats a good character to pick? i was thinkin warrior and something else but i have no idea. what is a good choice for secondary for a warrior? sorry for asking a lot of questions but i would really apperciate the help! thanks in advance!

The answers to all of your questions are here in the forums, and concerning the builds questions, they are much debated.

Farming, is what extreme xp hunting is referred as, i.e. if you find an area of monsters that you can kill and have good items drops, some people will redo that section again and again.

The weapon IDs are as follows, white - normal, blue - special, purple - rare, gold - unique.

Customizing a weapon is done at a weaponsmith, this will make the weapons damage 20% more effective, however it is customized to that character only, no-one else can use it. This makes the weapon useless for trading when you have finished, beware that you don't buy a customized weapon off another player.

As for PvP and builds, there is a forum dedicated to builds here.

If you just bought the game yesterday, I don't think you really have to worry about farming yet. It might even just confuse you if someone tries to explain it on your second day at the game.

As for how to tell the value of a weapon, the order of goes:
white -> blue -> purple -> gold
Blue above can be identified to unlock additional mods to the weapon

In this game, customization will add your name, and more importantly, a 20% dmg bonus. It is also important to know that once you customize it, no other characters can wear it. Feel free to customize weapons at this point, since you probably won't find any really really good items at this point. Later on, some people I know like to use their weapons until they find better ones and then sell their old ones. In that case, they don't customize it.

The questions I just answered for you I'm pretty sure of. For the rest of the questions, I didn't know well enough to answer or accidently skipped over it (since you bunched up your questions, I might've missed one or two).

Farming is similar to MFing in D2. You go out to the same spot and kill some monsters for loot. Good luck finding a farming place now. They've nerfed most of the major farming spots.
I wouldn't worry too much about items starting off. This game is meant to be played so your skill counts more towards success than having the best items in the game. Of course, you dont' want a low damage weapon end game either. Simply search around to find the max damage for each kind of weapon and what kind of mods they can spawn. You'll learn soon enough which items have the right stats for you.
Item qualities from most common to rarest are white, blue, purple, and gold. The quality simply means it has a chance to have better mods than other weapons, but doesn't guarantee it.
Customizing means that for a small fee (10 gold) the weapon will gain 20% added damage, but there's a catch. It can only be used on the character that customized it. That means another player or even another character on your same account can't use it. And no, there is no reverse customize or uncustomize. Its permanent.
As for what kind of secondary to use for a warrior, you can experiment a little on this. When you start the game, there will be several people that can offer you a 2nd profession. Before committing to the profession, they give you 2 or 3 skills relating to it. This gives you a chance to mess around with various second professions. When you find the one you like, you can go back to the respective NPC and commit to it.

well here is what i think (plz somone correct me if im wrong)
d2 sux like hell, and is nothing compared to gw. its true that there are some similarities btw gw and d2, like the weapon colors. blue: un id, purple: rare gold: super rare and white: normal. there are swords, axes, hammers, wands, and staffs. now, each one of them can do somthing special, if its blue, pruple or gold. you can unlock grips, pommels etc. on these items, and salvage them to put on another item. when you customize a weapon, it dose 20% more dmg, BUT no one else can use it after you have customized it. the thing with the socket thing (in d2) cant be done in gw. but you can find runes, and put onto your armor, fx. a minor hammer mastery rune, then it will do +1 to hammer mastery skills. (i know, it sounds confusing but youll learn it
well for a warrior ill pick either ele, necro or monk.
if you choose ele, then youll have som great AoE spells, necro you can steal life, raise minions etc. and monk you can heal yourself constantly, so youll be the greatest tank

keep in mind i want to build a PVP character, but dont worry! i'm playing the story thing/pvp thing not just pvp.

I've never used Necro myself but, while you're in Pre-Seering Ascalon you can change your Secondary profession by doing the other npcs quests.

Later on in the game, when you arrive at the dessert you can change your secondary profession if you decide that the one you've picked really isn't working for you.

what is ur secondary? sorry i dont mean to be a copycat. but im really interested. are u a pvp base character?

the way i see it, warrior/monk is awesome! it was my first choice but then i wouldnt need to heal myself if my guild partner can do so.

There are an abundance of Warrior/Monks in the game, so I can only assume it is a good combination, for the reasons that you have stated.

However as a dedicated Monk my Secondary is next to irrelevant to me, I am currently using Ranger, so that I can lure a monster with my long bow.

You will find as a Warrior/Monk that you will be able to heal yourself but not for long as your Energy is limited. It is however better than not healing at all.
