Bear vs Spider
Volomon
Which is better I've seen the stats or the supposed stats and the automatic winner in this would be the spider however the spider doesn't have Brutal Mauling or at least not that I know of considering the bears innate ability to use this skill on its own is the Spider really better?
Does the spider have any innate abilities as well?

Kazahana
its rumored the spider has a small chance at psning the target even with its small possibility psning can be better
Aaaaagh
Tomato Tomato. Pets are well balanced, their DPS should be the same across.
The spider does NOT poison.

It all depends which type of pet you want. I believe the Bear is better at tanking, while the spider has the best DPS by a little bit. I don't like pets myself, and the only good way to use them is to go all out beastmaster.
Here is a pet comparision:http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...814&highlight=

Spider starts at level 20, all the others start at level 5 and as such require time and effort to get to level 20

Brutal Mauling does nothing.
Ollj
Its like +6% damage, that gets all rounded down to +0-2 extra damage and results into a long lasting easy interuptable attack.

Wow, your link seems to have pulled info out of it's ass without doing any tests whatsoever.
All pets have the same attack speed/damage output/armor (except the spider, which has higher damage). Brutal Mauling does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
If you want actual Pet TESTS and NUMBERS, look here: http://forums.gwonline.net/showpost....&postcount=123
Your link goes on assumptions, mine goes on tested numbers.

Of course the spider is, I used it to destroy the entire charr army once in Nolani, so that's your proof! Also they have a chance to latch onto the enemies face and cause massive amounts of damage until they shake them off.
(The last sentance in the above paragraph is un-true...... or is it??)

Than
why are you all shinny?
UsagiNoSenshi
he's shinny cause the armor layers didn't load or his graphics card over heated.
And for the last time you CAN NOT tame the bull!

The Black Widow Spider (from UW) has a better armor level and I believe does higher piercing damage, although that might be a result of starting out at Lvl 20.

Yes, and it's extremely annoying, and I don't know how to fix it.

Would be amusing if you could tame the pre-searing bunny tho, tried a few times and kept getting an inelligable target.

I heard you could tame the rabbits in beta and they were uber. Could be bs though.

For some reason I have not liked the bear much. here is why. Ive seen this many times now. the bear is in game and everyone is attacking and the bear is just standing around not doing much of anything. This is especially true in thirsty river. and the underworld / fissure of woe. 1/2 the time I just tell the guy to stop healing it cause it dies to easy. or its not doing much more then being a meat shield. Depends on what we need. The spider seems quite effective. And I personally prefer the dune lizard. The spider of course has an advantage cause you get it already at level 20. the Dune Lizard takes some time to level up. but it has a nice fast attack rate. Piercing damage equal to other pets blunt and slashing. and good solid armor, Now that they allow infusion. I'll put my dune lizard up against a bear pet any day...
The other pet I had up to level 20 was the wolf from presearing. and it was also pretty good, but the darn howling drove me nuts. lol
They are slowly fixing the Beast mastery skills for pets as well I'm noticing. the Disrupting Lunge is pretty nice now... As is Ferocious strike.

Arent there two types of spider? The Spider in the UW and the jungle black widow? One starts at level twenty, the Elder Widow or something like that. *pulls out the Prima guide* They have different Armor Levels and different amounts of attack they can do, depending on the type of pet it is.

This like ALL the other topics are VERY individualistic and THE only TRUTH that has been spoken is that of the links to the the TEST pages. Either way I have had my level 20 Bear for some time now and have tried some different builds with him and have to say that he has been and continues to be a valuable part of my builds and the groups that I play with. FOR ME it does just fine and I enjoy playing with it as part of my game.
Spider, bear, cat, bird or whatever you have as a pet, is it better than another, if you think it is than it is for you.

And why can't I tame a toad as a pet? Toad-style rocks!

I know what you're saying though. I'm sure a bear or what have you would do just fine as well.
Spider does have a nice look though. If I was a Necromancer/Ranger I'd want one for sure for coolness factor.

Wolfs Shadow
Ok I know a lot of players hate pets, but the spider does do some damage. I have had a spider pet for around 2 weeks now (I highly doubt it does poison I have yet to see it happen). However recently I cranked up Beast Mastery to 12 (with a Major Beast Mastery Rune to add to the armor) which makes it 14 now. I can tell you this much after just winning 12 consecutive matches at competition arena, the spider is like having another lvl 20 person on the team. Get him to go after the other teams monk and the team is already screwed. Half the time they didn't know if they should risk killing the spider or not. I never have had a bear, but the spider . It is unbelieveable how much damage one pet can do.
