Guild Wars is a short term game

They didn't make this game to be played long term.

You know in school people are like " Hey man want to play some counter-strike or battlefield when we get home?"

No one says that about Guild Wars because there's really nothing to do once you beat game and do some pvp. What are you going to do? Walk around mindlessly and beat weak mobs? UW AND FOW are good but get old too.

They need a massive update that is very time consuming so people wont beat it easy. Also they need more stuff to get stronger with. Even if lvl cap stays the same they need to do something so we can grind and get better.

My main question is.

Why is it fair that i am willing to spend 10+ hours on this game but someone can spend as little as 2+ and be as good as me? That's not fair at all.

Atleast let me prove that I have a better account.

People who spend 2+ hours shouldn't be as good as you, as you would be more skilled, and people don't beat the game in 2 hours.

You want to brag that you are better? that is pretty shallow.

They have massive updates, Faction points was one, and the new areas are another.

When you beat the game, there are many things you can do, and I will list a few:

Start a new character
Get all the skills
PvP
Fow and Uw
Help newbs and guildies
get 15k armor and gold dye
Complain on the forums
Stop playing this game, and play another
Get a life.

BC, Canada.. how aboot that eh?

Guess what... people have diffrent taste in games, i played counterstrike for an day and then got bored of it because i dislike FPS very much... anyways i swear you have already made a post just like this and my answer will be the same.. your not paying for it monthly, so why does it sound like your being forced to play it... im sure you have heard it many times before and you will hear it manytimes in the future, GW is not the only good game in exsistance... believe it or not

as for the time thing, it all depends what you do some people play the game all the way, some people rush.. and no matter how hard you try, it cannot be helped..

I have a question of my own, why do you care so much about it somone is better than you in a game? its not life or death, just call them a nerd and go out side or something

Then why did you buy the game when it stated on the box and in many interviews
that it wasn't those things? It's like buying EQ and then complaining that there aren't any guns.

I've been playing since WPE. I still play each day and I'm still enjoying it!
As are many others. Maybe you are the one who bought the wrong game?

I'd rather show my skill in a real way rather than it being measured by how
many hours I've invested.

And why can't you just pick up the game, recreate a character with the premade PvP maker, and do some casual PvP like the games you mentioned?

You bring up games where you can just pick them up and play without going through tons of grind to be competitive, and then you say Guild Wars should be the polar opposite?

If you want the standard RPG-fare for PvP, where you grind for months-years until you have an uber character capable of one-hitting anyone, then there're quite a few out there. I could name you one of the most imbalanced MMORPG's out there, where out of 4 classes, only 2 are really viable for PvP, and 1 can one-hit anyone and drink potions to recover damage (Has the highest DPS AND max health, AND second highest defence.), and the other can attack while in motion with magic.

I love being able to only have to unlock skills and runes once to be able to make a competitive PvP character in an instant whenever I want. And that's the way they intended and advertised the game. It might not be the perfect skill > time spent game, and still require a bit of grind to be a highly competitive PvP player, but it's probably the closest RPG game out there to that.

I've played since the BWE's, and I can't say some things haven't dissapointed me, but for the most part, GW is largely on track to what they promised. What people are discovering is that what they think they want, and what they really do are not the same thing.

A number of people I know were proclaiming how glad they were to not be addicted to an MMORPG anymore. They casually played GW, then less, and less, and eventually hooked back up to their old MMORPG and began playing again in full force.
They found that while they may not always like the tedious grind of hunting the exact same monsters, standing around mining for hours, and complaining about how the PvP is unbalanced for hours.

I'll admit having more optional grind for aesthetic purposes would be nice, such as the ale and 15k armor, but that they do have them is an indication that there's likely more such things to come.

The game is as replayable as you let it be.

The Infinite Representation Of Pie And Its Many Brilliances

Since this is a pointless thread I'll post a pointless post to go along with it because it's not worth a thread in itself.

Right now I'm really really really pissed. I've got all the skills for all the classes except the monk 'cept for a few elites I'll never use, got the 15k armors for all my characters, exhausted UW/Fissure (with my ranger 'cause my other chars can never get parties), I've beaten the game with them, and on my necro I've changed the secondary 5 times, and now on my ranger I've changed it 3 times. I've exhausted almost all there is to do except PvP.

But I still find it pretty fun to find out new builds and things like that.

But you want to know what makes me angry?

Attribute refunds.

On my necro, my second favorite...if not favorite character, well being that I've changed his secondary so many times, needless to say it's constant that I'm trying new builds almost every other day with him, and this requires a shitload of attribute point flip flopping.

But guess what?

I can do no more missions and no more bonuses.

I can't do any more quests because I've done them all.

They've nerfed the few farming spots I had.

And now my problem is simply that...I'm out of attribute refunds! Got 0! The ONLY way for me to get somewhat decent XP is to do the quests in the UW, and guess what? NOBODY wants to party with a necro, I have no guild so guildmates aren't a possiblity...what the HELL am I supposed to do just to get some decent XP?

Right now I'm sitting here with like a 5 in all my attributes, needless to say it's rather shitty right now. But I can't improve because I can't get XP, I just have to slowly...very very very very very slowly...gain small amounts of XP with henchmen redoing some missions/zones over and over and over. It's been like 24 hours and I've only gotten 6 attribute refunds, I need all 24 at LEAST.

Christ...that's why it makes me mad, when all is over with in other parts of the game I can't even use a PvE character to test my builds.

The pvp could make this game a more long-term game than any other mmonrpg besides maybe d2 if anet plays their cards right.

It helps if you research a game before you buy it cause obviously you thought it would be like any other online rpg, just without a monthly fee. And now you're wrong and annoyed; too bad?

My only complaint is you are limited by the 4 player cap. The main suggestion if you're bored of the game is to make a new character, but what if you've already used the 4 character slots available to you? I don't want to throw away so much of my time spent building a character only to delete them.

I agree that there should be more slots, but this is kind of off topic.

You mentioned Counter-Strike. Someone with 1000 hours experience will be exactly as effective as someone with 1 hour experience. Is that fair? I think so. The more experience you have, the more knowledge, skill, strategy, and tactics you have. Look at it from the newbie's perspective. If they buy the game a year after release, is it fair that they won't be able to compete with anyone until they spend a few hundred hours playing? I don't think so. It's not fun having to grind for hundreds of hours just so I can do something fun and challenging. That's why I quit WoW.

Also, PieXags, start your own FoW group. That way you don't have to worry about finding a group that will have you. You can do the first quest within a half hour, easily, which will give you 20 refund points, plus however many you got from killing the mobs.

So, just because you and a few others who troll these threads want this to be an MMORPG, Anet should listen and turn the WHOLE reason they designed the game for around? I've said it to you before and I will again, this is an Anti-MMORPG more than it's an MMORPG.

What makes these boards fun: sheer ignorance. Have you not looked at the site lately? Soon they're adding two new massive explorable areas (Which look awesome by the way) and there's an expansion coming early next year. Of COURSE they're putting into the game, and they do it better than any game i have seen that HAS a monthly fee.

I suppose ANET's PvP update, to make PvP more worthwhile and things unlockable through PvP was to discourage PvP playing and cutback on bandwith costs, right?

answer: you're as smart as a bag of rocks and deserve little attention. GW is more stable and runs way smoother than World of No Friends or Evermess 2. Besides, the updates were several and offered many good tweakings/new contents.

You're funny nonetheless. Rattling the cage of a troll is always somewhat fun.

I wouldn't make a statement like that.. no matter how many times I've done it, redoing a mission with a good party just gives that good feeling at the end of it.

I would almost have to agree with the guy. The lack of a grind makes this game short term. Granted, grinds are preceived as bad, but they also give you a reason for doing some of the stuff (questing, etc.)

I think the major problem that contributes to the short termness of the game is lack of item variety. Of course Anet would like to keep the game balanced, etc. But they can add balance with variety. The best mod to have on just about any weapon is +15% dam>health 50%, regardless of what weapon. So the grind is to get a weapon of some sort with this. But this is relatively easy to obtain, not like the elusive Wind Force of Diablo2, etc.

I hope I made these points clear enough, but I'll clearify more if need be.

if they could just add more content that would be time consuming (not hard time consuming just time consuming as in it will take A LONG TIME and not be done in a day.....)

More emotes and Interaction with other beings is a must

I have to agree that this is a short term game. I had fun on guild wars while it lasted and i respect how they update this game alot but i cant sta more than 15 minutes on GW anymore. I know some of you will be against me on this but i would really like to see the level cap raised and more equipment. Not only different looks but different stats, something to better myself.
well that my opinion
