Pyro seeks advice on last three slots (pve build)

Hi all,
Having got to the crystal desert, done all the path quests and attribute point quests, I've been left with a plethora of options for my build, and I just can't put my finger on where to go now.

Pyro section:
Glyph of Energy (no exhaustion for me)
Meteor Shower
Fireball
Searing Heat
Fire Storm

My last three slots I've tried several different professions and still am not quite happy.

Ranger (original secondary):
Wild lore:
Storm chaser
Winter
Troll Unguent
Result: Winter doesnt seem that effective, even in the fire chain, and troll unguent takes too ruddy long to cast.

Beastmastery:
Charm animal
Comfort Animal
Disrupting lunge
Result: liked this for a while, was my main build, problem being I cant heal pet during long casting times, and when pet dies while casting spell is disrupted.

So i tried a different secondary...

Monk
Healing Breeze
Purge Signet (for nasty hexes which are activated by spells)
Rebirth (the best rez for pve)
Result: limited success, having rebirth was nice, but unspecialised in healing (8 or 9 ranks) meant wasn't that effective. Going outright offense and defence never seems to work..

Mesmer
Thought about going energy stealing and hex stripping:
Energy Tap
Inspired Hex
Channelling
Result: too much energy! Scary I know. Inspired hex doesnt help against multiple hexes.

Necro:
another way of getting energy and health regen I thought... then realised all the energy regen abilities were others only. Still I tried..
Life Syphon
Shadow Strike
Vampiric Gaze
Result: Hardly used, either needed healing more than this provided, and damage less than fire spells.

So.. suggestions!
I generally like to sit near the back and nuke things to hell, but am used to reacting to things going wrong
