What is up with the anti-American sentiments from some GW players?

I guess some people are taught to hate Americans since childhood. So without coherent thinking, if they see anything bad, they think it must be deeds of Americans. Typical examples of such posters on this forum are Gaele and Yabba; they both made asumptions and generalizations without thinking. Here is an example
Some thoughts on this quote. First of all, if they speak English, it doesn't mean that they are Americans. Second, if they play on North America servers, it doesn't mean that they Americans or Canadians. So the next time you decide to follow Gaele or Yabba by starting such thread, think really hard so that your simple and narrow minded generalizations won't get exposed.

Lord knows there are LOTS of Koreans here on american servers, and you'd definately see European's tossing out "euro sucks".

Uh, I'm American. And I understand that Americans can be HUGE asses sometimes. Not to say that all are, but there are some. But to say that all Americans of every age group and background act this way is an uninformed opinion.

That said, I am against generalization of any kind. It's simply rediculous to assume that all of one kind of people are the same way. Unfortunately, making threads naming names and bashing people usually doesn't help the issue.

actually everytime i am in an american pug against euro, it is always "yeah, a free win" and guess what, we always lose badly to euro and i always here EURO SUCKS all the time.

Just like all the mooks I end up with in tombs PuGs say "oh no it's korea, we're gonna get owned." Having seen Korean teams on both ends of the skill spectrum, I don't see what the big deal is. Never heard any "free win" comments about euros though.

My american friends... you are the end target for a world driven mad by idiots like Ronald Reagan and George Bush... you are the end target for a world fed up with the most powerful country in the world also being the most aggressive and colonial... unfortunately you are also the end target of anti-white racism (globally we are indeed a minority), although this is largely due to america's history of colonialism and terrorism. Although this is only a game, and yes, everyone should know better than to be anti-anything, 90% of the world was raised in relation to american power, either cowering before, standing beside it indignant and insulted, or sucking up and kissing the buttocks to gain favor... nobody, nobody was left out of the american dream of world domination... er... democracy... sorry. It is the average american who has to pay the price for the arrogance and idiocy if its leaders, just like in any other country.

I feel sorry for you. One of my best friends is an american, from the burrows of new york, and he steadily displays the utmost intelligence, respect and knowledge of world history, particularly american atrocities in underdeveloped countries (perhaps this has to do with his heritage being puerto rican, and the particular attrocities committed there).

i am american too, i know there is some bad stuff here but there is just as much good stuff, and america CERTAINLY isnt the only country that has commited atrocities.....

I think there is something that needs to be adressed here. Well, 2 things but both of which are my theories . Firstly, chances are that a good majority of American players are >16 years old and will tend to act with no respect. Unlike the European and Korean servers, I seem to meet a large amount of young immature gamers in the American servers while those in Europe and Korea seem to be at least 18 years of age. This is just the first of my little theories. The second, and the one which I think may account for some of the ruder older folks, is that in Europe and Korea, when alcohol is consumed, they are used to the effects from a young age. While here in America, we have a tendency to make petty arguments into brawls. But nullify that last theory. I just wanted to get that out there. Being an American, I can attest that, even in California, a relatively Liberal state, we are taught from an early age to think that the world is our plunder. We are simply taught the one side of history. Until age 12, all I knew of Japan was that they attacked us at Pearl Harbor and that we defeated them in a glorious and brilliant battle. Sure, we were sheltered from the truths of the Atomic Bombs' devastation, but then again, we were also kept in the dark about it's Sino directed atrocities. All in all, I just beleive that if you give our gamers a bit of time to grow up, we will be just as, if not more, civil as any other country.

So, to summarize my ramble -
America is a young country, in every aspect.

Don't get too political everybody. All I was trying to point out is that if you are the "so-called" mature GW player and want to express your anti-american sentiments based on your GW gaming experiences, then I suggest you have some solid facts backing up your claims. Just don't make generalizations based on weak and narrow observations (for a definition of "weak/narrow observations", see the 2 quotes in my original post).

This could've easily gone into the existing topic, and as it's turning into a full-blown political flamewar. :rollleyes: Lock.
