Its random. In my opinion - the quicker you want the shred so you can sear, the longer it takes to get it. But if you plan on haning around pre searing you get it almost imediatly. (Murphys Law).

at this point in the game several hundred people are just holding on to this item in inventory in hopes that Some day some how it will be of use for something. maybe int he underworld. lol where gwens mother is. However, At this time its pretty worthless... you can not even sell it to a merchant for the 100 gold value it has. lol so you either dump it, hold onto it, or destroy it. Most of us beta testers know Gwen is a powerful little welp... and prey that showing her the little shred may someday save us from some cataclysmic fate at her hands. lol

or maybe, just maybe, you need the shred and her 'broken flute' you get in the destryed town near the asylum(where the abbey was pre searing) place.

I have the shred, broken flute and tattered cape, but I haven't been back to underworld yet. Funny how the cape was all the way past the jungle on the way to Fisherman's Haven.

Yeah I have all three but I haven't tried talking to her mom in UW yet. I'll try eventually but I always forget to bring them when I go to UW. I highly doubt it does anything though, I'm sure people have already tried it.

I finaly got the shread today, im going to hold on to it, just like i did the flute, cape and now this.. i have a feeling someday they may become useful, i hope one day to find the final peice of the puzzle which i guess is Gwen... or at least her soul or something
