The crazy chests of Riverside, Part 2
Leighwyn
Was doing some chest runs and found this golden gem of MYSTERY: wtf?
Can anyone tell me what THAT is from? I haven't a clue.
Everyone should really try doing some runs to them one of these days, it's the best

Well, from what I've seen, I'd suppose it was intended to be a Jade Weapon salvage item, but was later replaced by Mursaat Garments. Strange stuff tho.
Leighwyn
Found some more cool thinks today...the first in this image is an UW item I would assume, but that second one.....who knows Boy, these runs are fun heheh.
KuTeBaka
can you get me a map of that place? i wanna try it too
Vwoss
All I get are white weapons and blue foci from the chests, even with favor. Are you killing mantle as you go? Could that somehow affect the quality of the drops?
Leighwyn
I'm just running straight there. The run isn't for sweet items, in the sense of rares and tradestock...it's for laughing at all the oddities that pop out from them. Sometimes oddity = value, like when I found an ectoplasm or some charcoal, dyes, etc...but most times it's a useless collector item (albeit a rare one like an igneous shell or something from the UW/fissure or maybe even a "Jade Gorget" or "Gruesome Sternum" heh).
Just gotta have the mindset that you're doing them to make ~400 gold a run and are not going to find any blockbusters. If you do them as such, they're awesome fun.

do you keep all the crazy stuff you find? such as collector items ... there's always the thought of collecting sometihng and finding later on in an update its worth the collecting, then again it might just be a waste of slot space
ju6ganutz
can u draw a map of it? is there a name for the chesT?
Genos
ye, its a great just for fun. its awsome doing it.. and robbing the towers at the same time!
KainShadow
yea i like that chests
The Phantasmal armors are the only items i never dropped from a mob
BTW Gruesome Sternum are from Dead Collectors and the other huge "flesh golems" in UW

I just started donig these chest runs today, while it's not much of a monkeymaker (unless you get a nice coin drop or ecto/shard), it's a lot of fun to see what you get, and the salvage items are nice, you can collect a lot of materials by running these chests. It seems they must of hit the select all button when determining salvage drops from these chest, as I have gotten drops from what seems to be Old Ascalon, all the way up to the ToA salvage drops. But yet weapons seem to be on par with the area, as I haven't seen anything outrageous ,they all seem to be made for the level you would be normally in Riverside. Guess i'll enjoy the unique chest drops while I can.
While thinknig about it, I'd love to see an instanced raid area where after killing off the boss you have a chest drop that gives a lot of random items, very similar to this. It's a lot of fun opening thse chests, unlike the loot system in the rest of the game, which is boring since they tried to kill farming. Plus other chests in the game either give very weak weapons, or a general coin drop, nothing cool or interesting normally happens with them.

Today, I got a "Bloodstained Jerkin", a salvage item worth 30. It uses a typical salvage armor icon like robes and tengu armor, but I have never once seen or heard of this before? Anyone ever seen this drop before, and if so what is it that drops it?
Btw, this is a lot of fun, and even profitable!

what place and chests ar eyou talkin 'bout? can u please draw a map or post and image that shows the place? thnx
Leighwyn
Glad that people are enjoying them as much as I am, and for the same reasons! Keep on letting me know if you all find anything interesting, I love it

These chests seem to drop monster parts from everywhere in the game. Back in the BWE, I found iridescent griffin wings from them before the desert region was even revealed.

my guess is that todays update will clarify what those items are since they are new anet will tell us what theya re for

I've noticed the interesting drops as well at these chests. Not like its a farming location unless you get lucky (which I haven't), but it intrigued me enough to make several runs just to see what pops out.
drizzt134
again!!! pls can u tell us also where these *secred* chests are?
Leighwyn
lol they aren't secret at all. You walk right by them on the Riverside mission, in the first undead area. That should be sufficient for you to locate them.

Also another note... my friend had a Glob of Ectoplasm drop from a chest back somewhere in Ascalon. Don't remember exactly where it was, but there is a chest like this back near the beginning of the game. (Or at least there used to be.)
hydrak
There is at least 1 more chest like this one in a much later mission.

Actually, the gruesome sternum also drop in Dragon's gullet ( 2 map north of Nolani Academy) of the monster named Abomination(look like flesh golem). Get 9 of them and you can exchange them for a bag( yes a bag!) to a collector in the same zone.
Anyway, I beleive moste of these "strange" item are probably drop of mob in Explorable Area.

Well, when you find a Jade Gorget please lemme know what dropped it
edit: got my own Phantasmal Armor today from the chests. Pretty cool stuff. The fact that its art is actually consistent with a salvage, though, makes me wonder if this might be found in-game. I've noticed that the trend is any item I've never even heard of usually has some basic/incorrect art. Like the Jade Gorget being a salvage that looks like a lodestone, or the Sternum being a [blank item type] that looks like bones. Of course, it's hard to label it a trend when there are only two examples

Where is the run? Can you do it solo? Is it riverside province?
Leighwyn
1. In Riverside Province
2. Yes, hopefully or else you won't see most of the items
3. See 1.

I'm rather confused as to which chests drop strange things, I've opened several I've found and gotten crappy 10-18 staffs all of the time.
A map would be nice

Oh, and just for kicks, there is a 5th chest not more then 100 feet away that drops normal stuff, but still, its worth stopping for just for the chance of a good drop, such as coins.
This isn't the most profitable chest run ever, but it sure is fun!
