Does this make me a bad person
goldfinger
Well, we were playing through the fairly hard elona reach mission (first time really going as a monk support necro... did very well I might add) Some guy with us just so happened to get a scroll of beserkers insight or whatever. Well, I alerted him and said "hey, I didn't know those things dropped. Cool man, grab your scroll" This guy has no idea what I am talking about, and we press on... this particular mission required backtracking so on our way Back I let him know again that he didn't grab said scroll, he loses it typing in bold caps "WHAT SCROLL!?!?" and others point him to it... so I grabbed the damn thing (it had gone past the time limit of being reserved) should I have left it for him...
Lost
No, you pointed it out to him twice and he didn't take it. By that point in the game people should know how to pick up items so it is his loss. The item becomes fair game for anyone to pick up.
Wings of Illusion
just funny
Principa Discordia
You warned him, his loss.
Lasher Dragon
If someone has made it to all the way to Elona Reach and does not know better than to pick up any conspicuous loot in their name, they deserve to get ganked. My opinion, anyway.
The Ages
I Dont see why not, He had plenty of time to grab it and was even told about it.
Its not like you refused to res him till the loot went FFA.
Its not like you refused to res him till the loot went FFA.
Nightsorrow
I wouldn't say it makes you a bad person, his fault if he didn't pick it up. I've done that with Gold Armours a couple of times.
Kostabi
How could he not notice? Everyone I've met that far into the game grabs every single piece of loot they see.
Did he still have the starter sword?
Did he still have the starter sword?
Gwenhywar
It's hard to NOT notice big shiny yellow things that drop o.O especially if someone warns you ...

Well yesterday we were fighting the titans, and one Spark dropped black dye for me, but If I had to stop - run and pick it up instead of throwing blind of the 3 titans and placing healing spring our warriors would die (gee man they were smart as a henchmen) cuz they were just ABOUT to die everymoment. I didn't knew their builds but with my support ranger seemed to deliver MORE dmg than their all 3 fighters, and taking in mind the 1 left, the dead menholio and the stupid Lina that doesn't want to Ress him in the middle of the battle we were barely doing progress...so after several minutes punching only 1 titan left - and here it what happens - the dye loses its looting rights, and ALL three warriors RUN toward IT. It was "OMG" for me. You know - they didnt have the brains to back up heal and then enter, nor to take any defensive stance (cuz the 100 blades of the minor titans are BAD), nor to block nor to....anything besides to drop fighting and RUN towards the dye at the seccond. Well one of them picked up the dye and since they RAN off the healing spring they dropped dead from the ignition. ... I punched the walls several times and I begin searching for another team.
Zoe the Zeer
No you are not a bad person.
Aniewiel
Not a bad thing at all. If he didn't pick it up even after telling him to do so twice, and since it became public "property" he is, IMHO, SOoL.

OP, nope you are not a bad person. The fact that you were kind enough to point it to him even after you backtracked means that you are a pretty honest guy. Enjoy your item, unless you sold it, then enjoy the money.

You don't have to say you'r sorry lol, you just have to say "Well, it happens all the time :P". I just wanted to share one of the hundredrs "smart events" I've been threw and to compare it with the first one. The idea is $Well people do A LOT MORE NONSENSE AND DUMB things and are happy" - so you should not feel that sorry.

If someone didn't wait until he/she was fully recharged, ran forward to fight another monster, should I go pick up my loot instead?
Mistress Dasha
and the excuse I was gonna wait till end of mission and get my loot that way.. it wont work once loot looses its rights no one gets it at end...
Azreal911
If the loot is good then it's their problem not waiting for you to recharge or pick up items, why rush??? it's a game so enjoy it! You always get people like that. When I play I pick up everything quickly for myself before i move on to help the fight or else you'll get nothing out of it when it goes free for all. Or if it's a mission most of the times you won't be backtracking and lose out on some goodies. I find in the southern shiverpeaks on average just going from one town to the next picking up stuff along the way really adds up close to a plat. So don't pass up the oppurtunity. Hey if someone does die that's what a res spell or signet is for! I'd go for the black dye first if I saw it, just because if you won't you'll either forget or I find others would abandon everything and get it like Arcador's example which would be worse for the team. In his situation instead of just him abadoning the post for a few seconds, it caused 3 warriors to totally abandon what they where doing which was much worse. Just my thoughts on things.

IN that instance...nah, youre not a bad guy.
What I hate is that when youre in a PUG fighting a bunch of baddies and the first boss drops stuff for your character but there are like 10 other duders around and one being a mean Monk boss so it takes a bit longer to kill. So, here's the scenario. Im playing a Monk character that is real busy actually healing/protecting and not too concerned about what stuff is on the ground so I leave it until the fight is over.
Sometimes that fight is longer than the time period for the reserve item drops and some dude I worked my butt off healing picks it up like it was his. Now, granted Im not going to leave some "COOL" item on the ground but I take my Monk job fairly seriously and would like my team to live so Im not going to stop and go pick up some blue armor that is going to be a minor inspiration rune or something like some dudes Ive seen do.
(some have the gaul to actually sit long enough to ID the thing while the fight is going on)
sorry /rant

nah..you told him that it dropped....you showed him where it was...that's his loss.
on a side note: I lost an ecto last night in the underworld because I had to use my tmie to set traps...the warrior in the group(that was standing next to the monk doing nothing with eachother) grabbed the ecto the second it went FFA....
I even said "I'm gonna grab that ecto as soon as I'm done trapping this set of stairs...."...bastard didn't even map out he just sat there and continued to watch the trap team set traps after he stole my ecto....oh well, part of the game I guess. You did the right thing...I wouldn't worry about it.

If you knew it was his then yes you are a bad guy.
It's the only way you can ninja loot in this game and you did it.

In PUGS you ALWAYS pick up your good or rare items even if this means that everyone else on the team dies. It's the sad truth but would you rather retry UW or give up a 10K ecto?

I'd rather play the game and make sure I did my part to get my team through the obstacle....it's not a big deal...it's just 1 ecto. It just struck me as odd that he'd take it even after I asked him not to...but there really is no use for gold in this game (atleast not for me)...so it isn't a huge deal.

Yeah if your in a PUG, loot is more important than your team. As shallow as this sounds, it's the more shallow people that will steal your loot that make this necessary.
Ashley Twig
I can only hope, that your everyday behavior in the real world is different.
Galatea
don't feel guilty it was no longer reserved for him and it was up for grabs by anyone.

Well for those who seem to think that picking up good loot before healing or helping your team is some sort of lack of morals or team spirit, either have been quite lucky or are pretending to live in some sort of utopia.
I’ve seen and have had a gold drop myself *stolen* because of players who instead of picking their loot up decided to be team players only to have their loot grabbed as soon as the timer goes off.
When it happened to me, the guy who I had actually just saved is sorry butt, grab a gold item that was mine after the timer. The rest of the PUG seemed decent and since everyone had noticed that this was attributed to me, pretty much all told him to give the drop back. He had the audacity the call me a stupid noob and that since I was dumb enough to leave that on the ground I deserved to loose it.
Since them unless I’m I a group that I know or that seems really decent, I do go for the loot first if I see there is a slight chance of loosing it. Lets be honest they are way to many players that will take advantage of anything they can and lets not forget all those Leeeerrrrooooyyy Jenkinsss followers, staring at a gold armor drop while dead on the ground in a mission because someone on the team likes to agro all the hydras he can find isn’t that funny either.
The best solution to this is of course grouping with people you know and if you can’t well if the group doesn’t talk or discuss anything before leaving, you should just leave the group, this weed’s out most problematic players.

Personally, if i see a gold or purple drop or a dye, I'll grab it if i'm close enough. Unless the monk is going down and I know i can't res, I'll take mild diversions to make sure I get a good drop, even at the cost of dying myself. I don't act stupid just to get an item, but I do my best to make sure I can pick it up.
This may seem selfish, but I've gotten screwed over on several counts as mentioned above. Gold, purple and dye drops are rare enough and I have a limited amount of time to play anyway, so I don't feel terribly guilty for taking 2 seconds to pick up a rare item even in the heat of battle.

Well, in my opinion, it's in no way wrong because A) You pointed it out to him several times and B) It was available for anyone to pick up. ANet wouldn't allow others to pick up items that other people didn't want, or are otherwise too stupid to pick up after a certain amount of time, if they didn't want us doing that. That's how I got a max damage spiked axe with a +30 health grip on it, someone left it there and I picked it up.
There's been too many times in where not picking up an item immediately has made me kick myself because we end up wiping on a mission and I have a Gold armor sitting there while I'm dead.

Just because an item looses the assignment doesn't automatically make it someone else's. Did the person it was assigned to actually say "no I don't want it" and forfeit it?
I guess I play with the naive code of ethics. If it doesn't belong to you, then it doesn't belong to you. I expect the people I play with to conduct themselves the same way. Yes, I know people don't and I have been screwed before. I played the only monk in a fissure group. A nice max damage colored shadow bow dropped for me very close to the aggro range of a different group of mob. I didn't charge in to pick it up for fear that the mob would mill about and I'd end up aggro'ing before it is time. Guess what, it lost assignment and a warrior charged in to pick it up on the way to aggro the mob. After the fight I asked him to return it. I got laughed at. He justified it as "you don't need it. you are a monk." To add insult to injury, he tosses a plain white off-mas shadow bow on the ground and tells me "here, take this one." I warned him and the group that i'm leaving if the item didn't get returned. No one spoke up and no action was taken. So I left. These are people that I do not wish to play with.
I would rather give up the glob and hope to find people that I can game with and play UW again in the future date. There has been two games where in one trip, I got 2 obsidian shards while a member of a party hasn't received any. Naturally, they whined a lot seeing the shards go to other people. I have gone through stretches seeing about 30 shards drop and none of them going to me. I know it puts a damper on the playing experience to be on the receiving end of a crappy statistical fluke. So I gave the second one to the other person. It made him/her happy and we went on to play the rest of the game satisfied. What's worth more? A shard or knowing that I made someone else's play experience more enjoyable? Everyone will have his or her own answer, but I know what the answer is for me.

Does this displease me? Yes. Is there anything I can do about it? No. So, do I complain AT ALL? Not a bit. It's completely random what I do get, so I'm extremely happy when I get something good. (Ironically, most purple or gold drops I get tend to be pretty useless anyway, and I end up selling, trading, or giving them away.)
I'm sorry for the whiners you get stuck with. There may be cause, but I don't feel complaining is ever really justified. It's just a friggin' game.
